FfH2 0.31 Bug Thread

Well anyways, welcome back Kael and how was your trip? :)

Sorry for filling up the bug reports thread with discussion about the crashes I kept having. I have no idea why some people don't get the crash. As I figured out and is discussed in another thread, it has something to do with the burning sands terrain. In fact, if I remove all desert and floodplain tiles, I don't have a crash.

I did get a few crashes while trying to go to a few earlier saves, but I think that had to do with which customfunctions the save wanted and somehow it did not like going back a few turns.

Thats fine, I appreciate the feedback. I added a note to the first post about the UAC. But I havent been able to reproduce any of your crashes on my WindowsXP machine.

Disabling the UAC didn't stop the crashes for me though. The strange thing is that the crash only appears on vista machines.
 
All units with a base movement of one cannot promote to blitz even if they meet the requirements. according to the main Creation and customization forum, this is because of a piece of code in the sdk that prohibits units from promoting to anything that allows blitz if the unit only has one move.

also, being damaged by poison strength doesn't seem to cause the unit to be poisoned

Would you mind taking a quick look on the save I put up on this post ? FYI, I'm using Vista too, but I don't think the CTD is related to it...

The Black Wind dying does not trigger the Shrine of the Champion being able to be built.
Fairly sure that's intended - losing Guybrush ought to do it.

Yeah, I've been loading everyone's saved games for the past week that reported crashes and none of them crashed for me....even 30+ turns into them.

I suggested that it might be something wrong with their system, but they don't seem to accept it..and now are convinced it was something to do with the burning sands... =\

Actually for me it was partially because I somehow hadn't quite installed it right the first time around, which is why you couldn't load it. What OS are you running though JJR? because so far it looks like the problem is happening with vista and there is nothing to indicate something is wrong with the system. Also, normal BTS runs just fine without problems.

Honestly though, we need to see how many people playing FfH are using Vista and are having problems, that way we can see if the system is at fault. However, if it was the system, it does not explain why it is crashing on a specific thing.

Is it just me or does the Order specific tech not show up on the tech tree (this might be cosmetic but also makes it hard to switch to it unless between techs)?
 
Well, there is no Order specific tech right after it like the others do, if that is what you are talking about.

It was removed in .30 because people didn't think it did very much. The Social Order civic was moved to Fanaticism, and Basilicas to Religious Law. (Those were the only think that Unquestioning Obedience allowed.)

For the record I am playing 0.31d on a Vista machine and all my standard games (8+ games so far) crash in turn ~ 250-280's. Prior to .31 the game was stable on my machine. I didn't realise that it was linked with the hell terrain so I didn't note the apocalypse counter. But count me for one with problems.
 
Orthuss axe duplication !?

We play a team game against 3 AI teams . And a strange thing happen when encounter two stack of enemies which have one unit with the orthuss axe (not the same team) . I don't know , but is there a way to get an orthuss axe with an event or another way than killing orthuss ?

Like we were almost every time at war , my suspicion goes to CvSpellInterface.spellTakeEquipment . When the unit take the equipment , the equiment is killed "pHolder.kill(True, 0)" . However 0 is the capturing player in CvUnit::kill . So i was thiking that perhaps , a new player0 axe were created with delayed death when the AI unit took the axe , and another unit took the new axe before delayed death occur . I've tried to reproduce the bug in SG games , but that seems impossible . However in simultaneus turns MP games , that seems possible .

However , i think you should replace all ".kill( bool , 0)" by ".kill( bool , -1)" .

Were the Balseraphs in your game? If "yes", the "Hall of Mirrors" might be the reason for the duplication of Orthus' Axe.

If there is was a unit with Orthus' Axe near one of their cities with a "Hall of Mirrors" in it, the hall could have created a temporary duplicate of this enemy unit in one of the tiles next to the city. After some turns this unit will vanish again, but the duplicated item it carried stays behind.

I've reported this bug some time ago and Xienwolf suggest to add a check to prevent the duplicate from gaining Weapon promotions, basically the same check which was placed on Alazkan the Assassin's Mirror Spell.

No we have played 2 random evil civs against 3 teams or 2 random good AI . I've got the svartalfar and my friend the calabim . All others players are goods . The two players which got the Axe were berryl baw and the Llo good leader . The only thing i could notice is that the elven unit got the axe and the staff of souls .

I killed Barnaxus with my Hidden Nationality Alazkhan, and while I got the message for 'you have captured Pieces of Barnaxus' and a golden hammer as well, next turn came around and they were subsequently not there.

Maybe a way to let the pieces hang around?
 
I'm getting the same issue with burning sands causing crashes, and I'm also running on a Vista system. The issue being OS specific seems more and more likely.

hmm, are there any FfH team members who use vista? If not, there should be at least one person around this community who knows how to use the python stuff and uses vista. Its a huge community.

While the issue with the burning sands can be dealt with, it would be tedious on standard and larger maps. Same issue if you want to do arid maps or the oasis map, which would make the point of an oasis map moot. Unless you want to 'terraform' that kind of map while playing.

Installing DirectX 9 seems to resolve the issue.
