Final Fantasy Mod Progress Thread, Part III

@HT - For the pedia, how does this look?

Spoiler :
ReturnerPedia.jpg

just so i don't make any serious errors in spelling judgement (kinda like Þorn Mountains) are there any specific spelling rules that you want me to adhere to? for example -- Aerith instead of Aeris, or Makou instead of Mako

edit: oh and a list of what exactly i need to change as far as units go...like i see an entry for the Man-O-War, is that getting taken out all together, or just changed to an FF related unit?

Well, I prefer AERIS to Aerith, especially considering the mythological significance of another "Æris" in Greek culture (Æris was the goddess of discord who was supposedly responsible for the whole Trojan War mess..... Not all that different from how Aeris was responsible for pretty much all the "fit" hitting the "shan" in FF VII)

Also, if you'll notice, I spell Makou as it should be... That's the proper english transliteration of 魔胱 (well, I'm not 100% sure if I got the right second charachter, but I do know it looked very similar and was pronounced that way)... Basically it translates as "Magic Radiation"

Don't touch the units yet... I'll compose a list of changes... I didn't delete a single unit entry, but rather changed them into the new ones....

:bump:

@HT - Hey, can you post what techs each civ starts with. I'm doing some of the pedia entries and I might not have all the starting techs right. I remember you said you redid the tech tree a while back and through my awesome powers of deduction there has to be at least 1 civ/flavor-specific techfor each civ as well.

So far I've got the Returners, Vector Empire, and Tycoon's entries completely done. I'm partially done with Alfitaria and Baron. I'm kinda working my way backwards from VI.

Besides that, any more progress?

How does a clockwork cake taste?

Actually, What I made was a steampunk phone that I built from scratch (no conversion or retro-fitting of existing phones... I built this sucker from the ground up).

BTW, here's a few ideas that I want to throw out real quick:

First of all, to help FURTHER distinguish the good civs from the neutral ones, I'm thinking about making the following changes to the game:

Change the Mage tower improvement to = 2x Alchemist shop's shield cost, but not be flagged with any civ trait, and it'll have the same stats it does now (reduces corruption and boosts research), but it won't produce mages.....

Instead, it will serve as a pre-requisite for the three alignment's mage generating improvement (i.e. you have to have a mage tower in a city to build a Cetra Lyseum/Archon Tower/High Priestess' Tower, Wizard's Guild or Maester's Tower).

Alternatively, I could leave it wit the same stats, but make it Neutral only, and then just have Magic as a blank tech that only serves as a pre-req for the alignment specific magic techs (Way of the Ancients, Earth Magic and Yevon's Teachings), and make a new alignment-specific improvement for the good civs that produces a Cetra Magus/Archon/High-Priestess every 15 turns...

Which brings me to the next part: I'm really thinking about adding a "Good" mage-type unit based on Aeris Gainsboro, which will be called a Cetra Archon, Cetra Magus or Cetra High-Priestess (depending on what you guys think is a better name), which will be produced by a Cetra Lyseum (which would be based of the Ancient Auditorium from FF VII) or a Archon Tower or High Priestess' Tower (which will be based off the Seashell-like tower in the center of the Lost Capitol where the underground palace/temple was).

Finally, I'm also thinking about re-doing the Sniper and Elvaan Settler units.

Below are previews of different versions of each. The first is the Archon, second pic is the Elvaan Settler, and the last pic is the sniper... I'm rather partial to the First or last version of the sniper, but I'll let you be the judge..

Thanks for the replies... I think I'll go with the version of the Sniper with the trousers and knee-boots.... Not only would she fit in well with the FF mod, but she also would work well for the steampunk scenario (as a matter of fact that's kind of what I was going for, especially with the double-breasted high-collared jacket).

Personally, I'm also somewhat partial to the first version of the Elvaan Settler.... Of the Archon variants, I'm still trying to decide between the White dress version, Pink (which would be the most accurate since the unit is supposed to be Aeris, however, pulling that off might be a bit difficult, although the pink I'm using is not magenta-based but red-based, so keeping her dress from going transparent shouldn't be TOO difficult), and the black dress version....

Also, what would be the best name and/or graphics for the Cetra thing:

Archon Tower, High Priestess' Tower or Cetra Lyseium

Also, I may do both the Ancient Auditorium AND the Shell-thing, as well as possibly some kind of other varients, and make it culture-group specific. i.e. for the Asian cultures, use something along the lines of Angkor-Wat, for the Middle East cultures, something like one of the buildings from FF X, for the European cultures, Aaglo's Elf keep, since it does look like some of the towers in the hidden palace, use something like the ancient auditorium for the Mediterranean cultures, and use something like the shell for the FF VII/VIII (Native American) group

I'm fond of the white and pink myself :)

And I agree with the other choices too. Boots and pants combo, and long dark skirt on the settler.

Actually the Elvaan Settler in the first pic is wearing a HAKAMA, which is basically a pair of really wide, pleated pants, although at civ scale, I don't think you'll be able to notice that too much (except during the run animation)....

Also, I've started animating and rendering the new version of the sniper with the pants and boots... I'll be using more-or-less my standard Aiko rifle animations, but with a few tweaks to her stance (which I'll be saving over the old files) to make her movements and stance look more natural...

As for the Archon, I'll have to PM Magus77 and see what he thinks (since I'll be presenting the Archon to him for the Aeris Gainsborough of the Cetra king unit).

Also, any suggestions or ideas on the whole mage tower thing? Any comments on my idea for culture-specific Archon Towers?

I'll post my sentiments on it in the morning when i'm awake  But I think it'll be a wonderful idea :) It'll put the culture groups to more use!

Ok, here's a few quick previews of some ideas I'm working on...

First is potential Archon Towers.... Left two columns are European/Mediterranean and right two columns are Mid East/Asian.

Also, I decided to make the Yevon temples for the Evil civs culture-specific, so below you'll find some (tentative) graphics for that, with the European (currently used) one being on the left, followed by the proposed medeterranean, Mid-East, Asian and Native American (FF VII/VIII).

for the Archon Towers, i like the top two on the left...i mean, if theyre producing Aeris like units then the top one in the second column is the most appropriate for the culture group that AVALANCHE is in, and the top left in the first column makes sense for asian rather than european

as for the yevon temples, i like all of them, they fit pretty well

Yes, I'm aware of that fact, but They're all going to be used for all 5 cultre groups... I don't have the Native American one YET, because I'm working on making one based directly on the Seashell temple (the one that has the Hidden palace at the bottom) for that particular group.

What I meant (and maybe I should have clarified a bit) is that two should/would be picked from the European/Mediterranean block, one of which would be used for Euro and one for med, and two would be picked from the Mideast/East Asian block, one of which would be used as east asian and one as mid-eastern.

Belive-you-me, the top one in the second dolumn (the double-towers) IS going to be used, but I'm waiting to see what the prevailing sentiment for the second one is before I decide whether to use it for European or mediterranenan (since it would fit for either), or perhaps I should use it for both...

I'm also searching the WH fantasy mod to see if there's any useable graphics I overlooked that I could throw into the mix as well....

So, any feedback at ALL for the Archon towers or Yevon Temples?!?!

Anyways, I've finally landed on the perfect unit for the Neutral civ's "Mercenary Army" unit that will be generated every 15 turns by a pentagon-style SW called " Mercenary Guild Hall"

It will be Lord Malbeth's Elven Army
