Final Fantasy Mod Progress Updates, Part II

Hmm...you're right, there are indeed 31 civilizations...I wonder why Firaxis decided to go with an odd number...is it possible to add a 32nd, putting the civilizations back at an even number? Perhaps you could use the Square-Enix joke civilization considered a while back...

EDIT: I remembered there's only 32 team colors...sorry about that...

Anyway, back when I played FFXI, I played San d'Oria, and the San d'Orians really don't need any more help when it comes to their GLs...

Also, something I noticed is that Jeuno doesn't have enough cities, at 16, and now that Oztroja is gone, there's only 15 now. I'd recommend adding Aragoneu, Derfland, and Norvallen as the last 3...also, Jeuno's team color is brown - why not give them their actual team color of white? After all, brown is a logical color for Barbarians...

No, the 31 civ limit is hard-coded.....

BTW, You still didn't answer my question about which Nation was your home in FF XI....

Also I think I'll make the dwarves have the European CG, since that's the closest of any of the FF cities I have (and before you ask, the 5 culture groups are also hard coded)... Which currently consist of FF VII/VIII type cities (ancient era looks like the city of the ancients, the middle ages looks like Mideel/the Ancient temple/cosmo canyon, and the Industrial ages looks like Niebelheim/Rocket town, and the modern age looks like Kalm/Midgar/Junon), FF style Mediterranean cities (looks like the cities from FF IX and FF T as well as Jeuno), FF style Euro cities (looks almost Elvaan.... or like any of the more "traditional" fariy-tale type cities in FF I-VI), FF style "Asian" cities that look like WIndhurst/Khazam, and FF style Mideastern cities, which look a lot like the FF X (and even some FF TA and FF III cities).

It's San d'Oria, as I said up there, but they seem to have plenty of GLs as it is...

This mod looks great! Good luck and keep the good job!

I noticed that you mispelled Kazham up there...just making sure that it's spelled correctly in the actual mod...an easy way to remember how it's spelled is that a lot of actual cities have names that end in "ham", such as Birmingham or Nottingham...it's not Khazam, like in Allakhazam, although a lot of people do that on accident because of the site...

I believe that people from Kazham are generally referred to as "Kazhamites," as for the adjective, you could just fill in Kinky Catgirl as a joke...I don't really see what could go wrong with that...but I haven't really tried it, so I guess it could still go horrifyingly wrong...

Perhaps it may be a good idea to just steal the Mithra Ninja and Mithra Ranger away from Windhurst and Selbina for two of the Kazham UUs, and use the Charlatan, to represent Magriffon, as the third. I assume it would probably be some sort of hidden nationality unit that can steal gold from other civilization's cities, but I'm not quite sure if that's possible to do...

Perhaps Windhurst can have the Manaclipper, seeing as naval UUs are quite the rarity. I don't exctly know what it looks like, seeing as I lack Chains of Promathia, but I'll see if I can get a screenshot from someone else (probably not, but it's worth a try...)

This puts Selbina back a unit, which may be a problem, but Mithra Ranger never related to it in the first place...how many UUs does Selbina have without it? I know there's the Voyager, but did you add any others?

Well, I don't know if I'll add Kazham or not..... For one thing, Kazham would make more work for me... For another, I think I might be able to get around it because FF XII is SUPPOSED to be out soon (as I said, Supposed, but It's already been delayed once), and I'd rather have Romanda (either from FF T or XII, I don't care) as a civ, just so I can REALLY have the 50 years war when I play as Ivalice, Romanda or Ordalia ....

As for the second UU for Selbina, I used this Danish 17th century partisan unit that Utahjazz7 made, and called it the Treasure hunter. Basically it is a replacement for the Marines (note: I made the marines as strong as attackers as the Samurai (modern offensive infantry), so they'll actually be worth building for once) that can "salvage" (enslave) defeated enemy units to make Death Machines.... I was going to make a flag unit called a treasure (like in the Age of Discovery Conquest), which they would'Ve enslaved, but I don't think that flag units (even ones that are created through buildings or enslavement) appear in non VP/Capture the Flag games, and in a VP/Capture the Flag game, this would give Selbina a HUGE advantage, so I just made them enslave to a standard unit that other civs heavy mechanized units can create.

Also I decided to swtch up the Dwarves UU a bit. I'm keeping the fire ship, but I'm not adding the sub.... Instead (based on the dwarves of FF IV) I'm giving them a UU that replaces the Heavy tank, and calling it the Dwarven Main Battle Tank (I'm using, of all things, Muffins Ork Looted Baneblade Tank from WH 40K  ). The last UU (Battle Rager) remains unchanged.

I just finished the Elvaan Settler, and am in the middle of adding all the Dwarven Flavor and UU to the game. So far I've got rid of the Dwarf and Elvaan minor civ resources, and doubled the appearance chances of Goblins, Bangaa and Giant Spiders to make up for it. I've added the Elvaan Settler, and changed over all the old Elvaan minor civ units to be Elvaan flavor units (all are defensive). I've added the Dwarven Settler and Workers, the Dwarven Archer, and will be adding the Ranger as well. I need to add the Paladin (flavor unit) and shuffle some of the old Dwarven minor civ units around as well.....

Once all that's done, I'll start a test game as the Dwarves and post some screenshots.

I know that everyone loves those scantily clad Mithra, but I really would feel a lot happier if the last UU of Selbina was not, in fact, the Mithra ranger, but rather the Galka ranger...sure, no one relishes getting up close and personal with giant, ugly, hairy, fat males, but they need to have some representation in the mod, and Selbina's proximity and history with Bastok makes Galka a much more logical choice than Mithra for a UU of Selbina...

Also, do you have any civilopedia entries done? I would be happy to make some Civilopedia entries for you...

Also, if you like Romanda so much, maybe you should just dump Wutai and keep Kazham in order to get a full set with Romanda in it? I know it seems ironic that I argued so long for Wutai and now I'm arguing against it, but I'd much rather have Kazham than Wutai...

Errrmmmmm..... I currently can't do any Galka (although Kinboat's Panda units might work... I was thinking of using the Panda Roketeer as a Galka Ranger).... I mean some of them Galka do look rather Pandaish... Falnax?

Edit: Heres the Pics I've been promising. These were done of a really good dwarf game I had going until I realized I forgot to set the fighter in the Dwarves and Orcs Upgrade paths.... and I hadn't added the third Dwarf UU: The Main Battle Tank (kind of inspired by the dwarves with tanks in FF IV).

Here's a pic of the geopolitical situation, which reminds me... Falnax, I prefer to do my own civilopedia editing (for now), but I'd be more than happy if you could edit the Scripts.txt and Labels.txt. I'll post them so you can if you're interested. That way, instead of Pliny or Homer or any of those guys creating an epic work to tell you how your civ is doing, you could have "Edward the Spoony Bard has completed his great history of the world:"

Dwarves1.jpg

Here's a pic of some of those dwarfy units in action.... I'd just built the Tomb of the Unknown king at the same time I researched Philosophy, and I got a SGL, which I used to rush the Temple of the Ancients (basically the Great Library), and then when I used the free tech from philosophy to get currency, I got another SGL, which I used (once I started running out of land) to rush the Morhen Lighthouse (Great Lighthouse)... I doubt I'll ever have something like that happen to me ever again

Dwarves2.jpg

Yeah...that panda just doesn't look enough like a Galka to work...

Well, I thought of a solution for having Wutai, Kazham, and Romanda in the game: removing the Rebellion from FFII, seeing as there's really not enough information in the game to make two civilizations out of, and seeing as the only name the good guys ever seem to get is "The Rebellion," which is pretty lame, honestly...

Anyway, something small that I noticed was wrong was that Kam'lanaut's title was given as "Grand Duke," when his actual title is "Archduke."

I noticed that early on there was plans for each civilization to have their own unique summon...is this still going to be a feature of the mod? I'm just wondering which civilizations currently have in which ones currently don't have summons, assuming it's still going into effect...

Okay.... First of all, I've been compiling the info from II, and will add the Good Guys... I'm planning on naming them after the main faction in the Rebellion... OR I could call them the Rebel Alliance and give them my Z-95 Headhunter or an X-Wing as a UU :joke: Seriously, though, I have plans for that... as for the odd one out, it will either be Romanda (excuse to make more Viera units :groucho: ) or Wutai (excuse to add Aeris as a UU for AVALANCHE)... The reasons for this are the fact that I merged Kazham with Windhurst, and even with that Windhurst has about 20 cities... but don't worry... I'll be making some Mithra Flavor units for Windhurst (as well as som Taru-Taru ones... I'm currently using the Hobbit settler that KB made as a Taru-Taru settler, and one of the UUs, the Taru-taru Ranger (Aaglo's Hobbit archer). I'll be making a Mithra defensive flavor unit line (which along with the Mithra Ninja and a Mithra Worker I'm planning will make quite a few Mithra). The Mithra in the def lineup are Mithra Archer (Taru-taru ranger takes the place of the middle ages defender), Mithra Gunner (Mithra armed with dual Desert Eagles, like Yuna in FF X-2), and Mithra Sniper (Currently in progress, it was originally going to be the Mithra "Ranger" for Selbina).

As for Selbina's UU.... I was thinking maybe a Galka Beastmaster... I think that some of the Trolloc figures that Kinboat made might work (i.e. use the Bear head with the PDM body and add the tail, re-texture a bit and add a Wolf or Raptor as the controlled animal....) If I can pull that off, I'll also try to make a Galka Worker for Bastok and Selbina as a flavor unit. similarly, If I can get the figures, I'll see about making a Hypello worker for the FF X civs (the Hypello were the almost Gungan looking guys who ran the Shoopuf transit business and talked funny).

Please notice that with the number of civilizations it should be Romanda and Wutai, not Romanda or Wutai...

Admittedly, I think that you should drop the Tarutaru units completely, seeing as Hobbits are a very poor replacement for Tarutaru...and it means more catgirls for people to drool at...

So...about the summons...are those going to be a final gameplay mechanic, or were they dropped?

Yes, the summons, I forgot..... Currently, I'm in the process of gathering units that would work for summons (as well as making one summon myself).... Here's the current list of unique summon techs, small wonders and summons available by game:

FF XI: Tech = Avatars, SW = Carbuncle's Ruby, summon = Carbuncle!!!!!111 :joke: Uh, need your help here Falnax....

FF X: Tech = Aeons, SW = Summoner's Quest, summon = ? Maybe Ixion (I think there's a Unicorn around here that I could C & P a Lightning attack in)

FF IX: Tech = Eidolons, SW = Eidolon Wall, Summon = Ramuh (since Ramuh played a key part in the game by allowing Dagger to start getting her Eidolons back after Brahne took them)

FF VIII: Tech = Para Magic, SW = Guardian Forces, Summon = Leviathan (once Quinzy finishes converting that Water Wierd from Baldur's gate)

FF VII: Tech = Summon Materia, SW = Huge Materia, Summon = Bahamut Zero (the summon you get from the Blue Huge Materia)

FF VI: Tech = Espers, SW = Esper Statue, Summon = ? Probably Shiva (I can do her REAL quick by changing the outfit and making the Esperling unit I made Bigger and blue in all animations, and only giving her an ice attack).

FF V: ?????

FF IV: Tech = Summoned Creatures, SW = Mist Cave ? (where you learn summoning in FF IV), SUmmon = Odin (Using Kinboat's Pegasus Rider, since even though the horse has wings and only 4 legs, it is still black, and the rider has black armor and a horned hem and wields a huge lance that looks like the Gungnir)

FF III: ????

FF II: ????

FF I: ?????

I do have some general units that I'm collecting for summons... One of which is a Djinn that Aaglo made, another is a "Great Taurus" that Aaglo made that would work as Kjata... Plus I could do (if I could find a teddy bear figure for Poser) a Choco-mog one as well. I may even buy DAZ 3d's eagle and try to make a Phoenix as well.... also Quinzy is converting a big demon from Baldur's gate that looks a lot like Diablos.

Since the summons won't be available until the modern age (and I'm not editing the Industrial and modern tech trees until I get all the civs, flavor Units and UU added.

Speaking of civs.... I currently have 26 added to the game, leaving 5 civ slots open. With the Light Warriors and Dark Warriors from FF I (that's two for those keeping track) and the Paramekian Empire and the other guys from FF II (2 more, for those keeping track), that leaves one civ slot open.

Current candidates are; Wutai and Romanda... OR and this is a bit of a leap of faith, but it would be much easier to do, would be to add the Earth Government from Final Fantasy, The Spirits Within... Hell, Balou (a great unit maker who disappeared long before I even came to these forums, but whose works, like the Egyptian Pyramids, are a testament to his greatness) even created one of their UUs: the Deep Eyes Squad. The others would be a snap to add (I.E. the Aliens Dropship or the X-303 Prometheus or any of the other spaceships would work as the Earth spaceship, and one of the futuristic tanks and stuff could work as a combat vehicle.....).

And as for the hobbits being used as TaruTaru, all I gotta say is that beggars can't be choosers, although I did find some Kender units that Kindred made a while back that would probably be a better representation of Tarutaru.....
..... You see, Ever since 75% of the unit creators jumped ship for Civ IV, I've been virtually on my own for unit making, and anything that makes my life easier is welcomed. Making a single unit (except in cases where I sacrifice sleep, health and time with my family) can take up to two weeks or more, and during that time, I can't use my computer for anything else, but I'm more or less tied to the computer to keep the rendering going at a maximum rate, so I end up spending way too much time in front of the computer, and it's getting really old fast. Even with two computers rendering simultaneously, it still is very time consuming. In the past I could float unit requests to other unit creators (or use one of the units they made that looks "close enough for government work" i.e. the Hobbits for taru-taru), but now I'm on my own, since the only other humanoid unit maker (Sword of Geddon) is busy with Indian and Asian units, and the only other Mech unit creators have had a massive computer failure (Bjornlo) or have a request backlog a mile long (Orthanc).....

Therefore I'm willing to let a few things slide a bit. I've been slaving away at this mod with very little help for almost two years, and I want to be able to get it out sometime before this summer.

I do thank you for your help Falnax, but now you see how frustrating this can be... I was hoping to have this mod done by May of last year, but every time I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, it just turned out to be another freight train that delayed the mod further.

FFV's summon should be Syldra (it resembles a sort of Loch Ness monster ;) ) and its summon wonder could be "Faris's Hideout." The monster Syldra pulls the pirate Faris's ship at the beginning of the game before he gets sucked into a whirlpool and later returns as a summon esper.

Sweeeet! Then that means that I could just use Aaglo's Sea Monster (the one he used for the Doomreaver, but without the castle), since it looks sorta like the Loch Ness monster. I'll have to run over to the units forum and DL asap.

great! unique summons!
just to let you know, im doing state exams in feb and again in june, so im limited to weekend computer excess. so leviathen will not be done till this weekend..
