Final Fantasy Mod Progress Updates, Part II

Well, FFI has no summons, but it does have the four elementals, Tiamat (wind), Lich (earth), Marilis (Fire), and Kraken (Water); Lich would probably be the easiest because just about any robed undead would work. Marilis would be the hardest, seeing as I doubt anyone's made a four armed snake woman...meanwhile Tiamat is just a recolored Bahamut, but I assume that Bahamut ZERO wouldn't look anything like the proper unit - is that already done, because admittedly, Bahamut would be a better unit, as it's a lot more recognizable...as for Kraken, no one cares about Kraken, as it was replaced by Leviathan...

Can't help you on FFII...sorry...

FFIII should probably have Sylph, an aggregation of three little green faries. Sylph is, after all, the most recognizable summon that was later removed, and I think FFIII was it's first appearance...

EDIT: Later looked it up and realized that was the wrong Final Fantasy. I'm gonna go with Titan, this time...

Personally, I think that Carbuncle would be pretty awesome for an FFXI summon...but instead of normal Carbuncle, perhaps a mutant giant Carbuncle?

Okay, Three gets Titan.... I actually already downloaded Aaglo's Stone Giant for use as titan, but got so busy with other stuff that I forgot. Having Carbuncle as the summon leaves one question: where the hey am i gonna get a Squirrel figure for Poser?

Oh, I also realized that Sword Of Geddon made a Quetzelcuatal unit a while back, which I also downloaded, so that could be the FF VIII GF, and Leviathan could be the FF XI summon.

Of course, that stills leave FF T, TA and CC.......

FF Tactics had the wierd "Zodiac" summon, but that doesn't look anything like any of the units we have available here.

There was also Lich, Cyclops, and Salamander.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing the "Zodiac Brave" as the FF T summon, with the tech being (what wazit called that you had to research to find out about the Zodiac Braves in FF T) and the Small Wonder being called the "Zodiac Stones."

For FFT: A, I was thinking of using one of the Totemas... I could (possibly) do Matteus in poser, although I'll have to look into what they look like to see if anything already created would work for Famfrit, Ultima or Exodus.....

In the Meantime, I'm taking a break from serious unit making, because to be quite frank, I'm getting burned out.... I will do some light unit making, such as swapping some clothes and morphs from the Elvaan settler to make the Viera Settler... I'll also be looking on various 3d sites for a Pickaxe, axe and some small trees so I can potentially do worker units.

I believe that would be the "Germonik Scriptures" in FF Tactics although it's been a while since I've played FFT. :) That's the book where the Glabados Church's deciet about the Zodiac stones and St. Ajora were exposed.

Yes! That's what I was thinking of.... I've never played FFT... to be honest, I've only ever beaten VII, and I'm about halfway through FF VIII, and I've nearly got IX and X beat, and I've never played any of the others.... And I'm making a FF mod for Civ III  :crazyeye:

...You never played any of the others!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Only beaten FF7!?!?!? But... but... but where do you get all that material? I only played (and beaten all :smug:) the ones like you, 7 - 10, and have no idea what you are talking about in the thread if its not related to one of those, or 8 bit :)

...This is so weird.. :crazyeye:

Not really. When in doubt, always use GameFAQs. :p

I've personally played IV, V, VI, VII, IX, and Tactics. IV is my favorite (partly because it was the very first Final Fantasy that I played ;) ).

Well, to answer where I got my info from....

I own the BradyGames official strategy guides for FF VII (that one is so heavily used that the fron cover came off and I had to duct-tape it back on), VIII, IX, X, X-2, Origins (FF I & II for N-64?) and XI. I also own the Nintendo Power official strategy guides for FF CC and Dawn of souls (FF I & II for GBA), and up untill about 6 months ago I had the FFT: A strategy guide as well, but I lost it somehow.....

Also, I have used these fine FF databases for scrounging info for games: Eyes on Final Fantasy, where I'm also a member of their forums, Final Fantasy Online, the first Final Fantasy resource I came accross, and the biggest and best, Final Fantasy Compendium, the best all around FF site, even includes in-depth info on arcane FF games such as FF III, and without that site, I never would have been able to add FF III to the mod. It also has all kinds of pictures of different charachters and job classes as well as info on all monsters and species in all the games.

Sorry...I never got a chance to respond to what was posted earlier...

Please don't put in a Spirits Within civilization - it's very unpopular among actual Final Fantasy fans, seeing as it doesn't relate to the series, and is a pretty mediocre movie...hence most people count it off as trying to profit off of the series name...

Anyway, I find it a bit paradoxical that you keep talking about how frustrating it is that the mod takes so long to do, yet you wish to write all the civilopedia articles yourself...isn't that just grunt work? Most modders jump at the chance to get that off their hands...

I suppose there could be one "Tarutaru" unit, just to give the species some representation, but try to substitute Mithra whenever possible, because the Mithra are really quite correct looking...and, of course, the classic bonus...

Mateus probably should be the FFTA summon, and a Zodiac sign is a good idea for FFT. Perhaps FFCC could have a Moogle summon, seeing as that omniprescent moogle is about the closest thing the game has to a summon...but FFII is still unresolved...

Something that probably should be done is that I've noticed that you've used locale descriptive words in the names of cities; where possible, these probably should be removed, because they can lead to absurd paradoxes, such as Cactus Island being an inland forest. Admittedly that's probably not a good example, seeing as it falls apart without the island, but there's still a few cities that could use to be simplified. Remember that sometimes the descriptor is hard to notice, such as "Downs" or "Oubliette." Usually the first word is the name, though.

I'll use Bervenia, because it's an easy example:
Bervenia
Cyril
Giza
Cadoan
Lutia
Baguba
Nubswood
Dorsa
Eluut
Salikawood
Ulei
Muscadet
Aisenfield
Ahli
Roda
Koringwood
Ambervale
Norgai
Helje
Jeraw
Sphrom
Uladon
Gotor
Materiwood
Delia
Deti
Tubola
Sienna
Kudik
Osmonfield

I'm pretty much happy with the place names as they are.... Most of them work for anything, even with the descriptimve names..... Besides, towns in Real Life are named after stuff that's nowhere near.... For instance, there is a town where I live called Altenwald, which means Old Forest in german (there are lots of ethnic germans, including me, where I live), but the only thing even CLOSE to a forest near that town is a small clump of trees about 2 miles away.... the rest is farm fields. I could name other examples... If we went by that rule, then we'd have to re-name all of Japan's cities as well... I mean it makes absolutely no sense to have Edo AND Tokyo in the game, since they are the same city. Or for that matter, it makes no sense to have Yokohama (literally: Accross the Beach) in the middle of a continent, or to have Osaka (literally "Big Hill") in the middle of nothing but plains and grasslands.

The reasons I'm editing the civilopedia entries (for now anyways) is because I HAVE to.... Every building, wonder, or unit I add needs a Civilopeida entry, and I've already used up all the default units and buildings, so I have to add the entries for the buildings and stuff as I go. I might send it to you for post-work once I've added all civs, units and buildings (i.e. right before the mod goes public). Like I said, though, if you could edit the diplomacy.txt (what the other civs say to you during diplomacy), Labels.txt (like the little popups when you get attacked by barbs, pop a goody hut, etc), or Scripts.txt (what your advisors say to you, among other things), I'd really appreciate it. I've already changed the Labels.txt so that what used to say "gold" now says "gil" and changed the dating system to "PA" which stands for Post Apocalyptic dating (basically the background story is that your faction are the survivors of a major catastrophe on your home world and have somehow ended up on some other planet with almost nothing, requiring you to pretty much start over at square one).

Oh, and there are currently only two tarutaru units: the Ranger and Settler.... everything else for Windhurst (flavor units, that is) will be Mithra.... As a matter of fact, I've been collecting various tools (shovel, rake, hoe, etc) from different 3d sites for making a Mithra Worker unit.

I'll also see about digging up the Kendar that Kindred27 made and seeing if any of them would be useful (since the Kendar he made look more like tarutaru than hobbits, even if they are a bit on the tall side, but not too much).

You should develop a story for your mod, something truly epic. Maybe even create an all orginal faction that represents the villain responible for everyone ending up here, playing with time and space, bringing back dead villains etc.

Maybe the Guadium from Final Fantasy Unlimited :mischief: Of course, they'd be lead by none other than Earl Tyrant himslef.... UUs would be that floating deathfortress of theirs, Makenshi, and possibly Pist, the fishy dude.....

Of course that's just begging for the Camodean to be added, with Kave as the leader, and "Magunner" (Kuroki Kaze), Ciel Chocobo (with the angel wing props ans the Chocobo model Kinboat made available, said unit should be a snap), and "Betty" (Cid's submarine) as UUs........

Basically it would be that the other FF civs were sucked into Wonderland like in the FF U series.....

OR I could go off of Kingdom Hearts and have it so that something like the Heartless have been destroying worlds left and right......

But that's not really that important at this stage; Units and factions are.

Actually it's "Soil". Kaze uses special magical "soil" that he combines in the Magun to create the summon.

I think the FF civs being sucked into Wonderland would make a fascinating scenario although I personally hated FF Unlimited. :)

Another good option would be to use Sorceress Ultimecia from FF 8 as your mod's villain, and reason for all those different FF civs being together.

I don't want to give too much away since you say your only half way through FF8. But Ultimecia's plot involves bringing all of the past, future, and present together into one time and place in what she calls "Time Compression".

if all civ slots aren't filled, how about a generic FF "rebellion" civ, using the Figaro Guard (6) or Figaro Chocobo Rider (6), or some of the other unused "anti-evil-underdog-etcetera" civ units?

or maybe a Chrono or some other rpg civ?

How bout using the Carbuncle summon for the FFCC civ Alfitaria instead, since Carbuncles do appear in that game and the game has no summoning of creatures.

Going back to earlier....you've only beaten VII, Hikaro?!! I've beaten IV, VI, VII, X, TA, and CC and I'm not doing Civ3 FF mod that encompasses all the games. :dubious:

Well, I've been too busy making said C3C FF mod to actually play any of my Final Fantasy games (I own VII PC, VIII PC, FF Anthology (V & VI), FF T, FF IX, X, X-2, and I'll be picking up my copy of Advent Children when it comes out.... Hell, I even have Kingdom Hearts). Shucks, I've been too busy making this mod to even play Civ 3 (aside from testing stuff I added). One thing I do have going for me is that I have a low-end photographic memory (one of the more common varieties of this phenomenon), that allows me to absorb and file data rather rapidly (unless I've only been getting about 4 hours of sleep a night due to a certain game mod project), so I've been able to get most of the info I need from various FF Fansites.

Anyways, what you said about making the Carbuncle for FF CC sounds good... the thing is, where am I gonna find something like that.... although the Owlbears from that Baldur's Gate site look kinda similar to the FF CC Carbuncles....
