Final Voyage of L'Invincible Armada - Spanish Emperor Attempt III

yup, complete Scot :) I know of two more, Gainy_bo is Scottish and I'm pretty sure Curt_Sibbling is a Scot as well, there's a thread in Site Feedback about it.

update comming tonight, just finishing the write up

thanks Volum.

El Loco, I'm from just outside Hamilton.

Sorry for taking so long, my mate came online and challanged me to a game of Call of Duty, pitiful fool.

Back to the game.

Order settlers made to fill in the gaps up north and all captured cities are ordered to make temples to counter the Sumerian culture.

If you look at the picture above, the Sumerian border with Spain isn’t as large as the one with China once was. There are three cities in the firing line, technically 2

steviejay720sumeria.jpg

The cities of Macao and Hangchow will be worst affected, on the east side of the Great Lake there are cities, but I’m planning to push all my forces up there, so defence won’t be a problem for the cities there. The challenge will be to defend the cities of Macao and Hangchow (and maybe even New Beijing) long enough for the attacking force to push up that slim stretch of land and join up at Der. The terrain is very good here fro defence, Macao can’t be flanked easily because of the marsh and jungle. Macao can’t be reached in 1 turn by Sumerian forces except from the east, but Macao will be defended by multiple Musket men anyway so until Cavalry comes, its in no danger.

The Spanish Army is “average” compared to the Sumerians but that’s not a problem. I’m getting the feeling that tensions are high between Sumerians and the Scandinavians so there might be a lot of units up north and by the time they get back down I should have a good foothold in their territory.

Before the invasion can even begin the Sumerian units fortified near Spanish territory must be neutralised, I could do this by either, using the armies (Longbow men and Horsemen will not stand up to a Med Inf Army) or by using Trebs and a number of Med Inf’s and AC’s. Using the Armies would mean giving them time to heal afterwards however doing this would allow the rest of the army to begin the invasion. Trebs will be a big help here, the Sumerians must have muskets by now (they have two sources of Saltpetre at least)[/i]

730AD
Use 600 gold rushing temples in the newly aquired Chinese cities.

740AD
A quick look at the Diplomacy board shows that Spain is at tech parity with the world. Which, considering its at Emperor ain’t half bad. Sumeria has Education over the whole world so TGL will faze out soon. Sell The Republic to the Romans for 30gold and 7gpt.

750AD
Boston completes Knight Templar. DOH!!!
Ur completes Sistines. They’re getting powerful in culture again.

Toledo switches to Pentagon.

A Sumerian Knight and Longbow man are moving south, through the cracks in my borders. Where are they going??? Order 2 MDI’s to follow them…. Just incase.

Spain is NOT ready for a war, the Chinese lands are still very vurnerable and the Pentagon and Forbidden Palace ain’t built yet.

760AD
Spain learns Education. Bye bye TGL

770AD
Sell Korea Education for 33gpt and 50 gold. Everyone else seems to have it so I’d rather get something for it.

790AD
I didn’t think it was possible to be this happy!!! The Celts land a settler/spearman right next to more or less all my armed forces. True they’re in Sumerian territory and they’ll kick up fuss, but I’d be stupid not to attack them :D :D Kill!!! 2 Celtic workers to add to my army of slaves. These slaves are “special” however and shall be used to clean out the public toilets in Madrid

Whenever I do decide to attack, there is still the problem of the Sumerian units to the south. There are at least twenty of them.

Overall I’m in a better position to launch an attack than what I was at the start of the Chinese War. 1 Empty Army, 7 AC’s, 6 Knights, 14 MDI’s, 16 Trebs. The First and Second Army are up at Macao to defend against any possible incursions there. But a show of force on the part of the Sumerians up there and I’ll need to withdraw. The main problem is being able to take out those 20 units at the three Sumerian towns on my side of the Great Lake without leaving myself open to attack. IF I was able to take the Sumerian city of Marad then there would be no problem. I would be able to defend that city easily whilst moping up the units in the south. Then it would just be a case of wheeling around and continuing with the proposed plan of heading for Der

And then again, I can’t have a long war or The Republic will bite me hard.

840AD
In an extreme case of bad luck, the Sumerians are able to plant a settler/MDI on the ruins of New Chendgu exactly one turn before a Spanish settler was due to arrive, as a result the city of Zamora is built one square out of position, in order to deny the space to the Sumerians.

Right, ok, here’s the plan.

10 Trebuchets will position themselves on the hill overlooking the Sumerian Army Group. Defended by 2 Musket men and several knights and AC’s they will attempt to wipe out the group before they have a chance to mobilize and strike at Spanish interests in the area. During this, the rest of the Spanish Army in the area will position itself in Shantung and hold the line against any possible Sumerian incursions there. On the western Front the two armies will head into Sumerian territory and take away the Sumerian ability to supply troops to the front lines in anyway possible, be it razing of key cities or plundering. The Third Army, situated in Shantung will be formed into a Knight Army and will be used to capture the outlying Sumerian cities on the Spanish side of the lake (Bodo, Tutub and Nagsu) Once the Sumerian Army Group is destroyed and the cities captured, the Third Army will act as cover for the Spanish forces as they work their way up the thin strip of land, taking the Sumerian cities of Marad and Zabalam, and finally at Der. Once at Der it will be decided whether or not to continue the advance.

steviejay850sumeria.jpg

The Blue circle is the Sumerian troops and also the Spanish troops assigned to destroy it.
The Red arrows are the (proposed) line of advance while the Blue arrows are the planned movements of the First and Second Army, the First Army, with its mobility shall head for Ur and cut the capital off from the rest of the empire, hopefully resulting in anarchy while the Second Army will head north west, towards the Sumerian deposits of Spice and also one of its two saltpetre sources. What is hoped is that Sumeria is shipping Saltpetre out to someone and will have to fall back on their own source to keep the trade going, much in the same way Spain did when China disconnected one of her iron sources.

Due to the worrying larger amount of unknown area in Sumerian territory the First Army is ordered north to have a wee look see, this will piss the Sumerians off something cronic, but whats the worst they can do?? Ask me to leave?? And even if they declare on me, well, saves me doing it and I might even get War Happiness.

Nicely planned, although your war may be very long since there are multiple jungles and marsh that will slow your armies. you've planned everything carefully so there shouldn't be any surprises. good luck, will look forward to your next update.
and another thing (this is off the subject but anyway) why isn't there a Scotish civ? we are fierce warriors and have more history and culture than the U.S. and other "shouldn't be there" civs. Anyway, just an observation. (the celts don't count we are not barbarians).

Actually, I think Celts do count, as much of the population of the British Isles pre-Saxon was Keltic. Just a though, though.

You could also mod the game to make a Scottish civilization.

I guess celts could count but they portray scots as barbarians which we are not. Scots have fought in almost every confilct as mercenaries (Thirty Years War, Napoleonic Wars, etc). So maybe there should be a scot mercenary as a UU?

[...] the First Army, with its mobility shall head for Ur and cut the capital off from the rest of the empire, hopefully resulting in anarchy [...]

I'm not quite sure this has the same effect in C3C that it did in earlier versions (I believe cutting the capitol off cut off the entire trade network?). It might be advisable to try and cut the southern cities off from the trade network instead of pillaging around the capitol in case it doesn't - need confirmation for that though. Either well it plays all hell with trade and is still a pretty solid plan.

Good luck steviejay, hopefully it all goes well and this one pans out! :goodjob:

I've played a bit more, but here's just a few answers to some questions

On the Scotland question-

I remember when C3:C was not out yet there was a large debate to having the Scots in. Pretty much at tthe same time someone wanted the Canadians in there :crazyeye:
I'd love to see a Scotland Civ but I think the Celtic civ covers all the bases for that type of people. The only thing I can think of would be to split the Celts into 2, having the Picts or something and then perhaps Gauls or something to that effect. I'd still like to see it though :)

On pillaging
Mistfit is correct. Cutting off the trade routes to the capital causes the whole thing to come crashing down. I experienced it a while ago when I was the Greeks and the French nuked my capital. it was kinda funny to see the "unconnected cities" section.

On terrain
The jungle/marsh is a double edged sword for me to be honest. It stops the Sumerians trying to flank Macao and try to get at say New Beijing, which is less defended. but it does severely slow down my units and Armies. The REALLY annoying thing is that, although jungles are impassable for Trebuchets, they can still go through them if following a road. However in my hastefullness to slow down enemy troop movement, I've pillaged much of their improvements. (I have a Conquistador Army....... I've never had so much fun  )

Playing and writing up now, but not sure how long for, need to go shopping with the girlfriend :twitch:

IBT- Sumerians BRICK it, and demand the removal of the First Army.

870AD
In a nice bit of luck, I’m able to trade Education with the Inca for Printing Press, Contact with the Hittites (forgot one!! Oops) and 7 gold. The Hittites are so backwards its not funny, they don’t even know Ceremonial Burial. I gift them CB, Masonry, Philosophy, CoL and Literature. Just for kicks. They only go polite the ungrateful little gits.

Trade Sumeria PP and Contact with the Greeks and Hittites for Astronomy and 8g!! UU Time!!!!! :hammer:

There are now 8 AC’s, 8 Knights, 1 Musket man and 10 Trebs on the hill overlooking the Sumerian Army Group. Once I get some Conquistadors I can finally launch the attack. (subnote- DAMN!!!! I should have waited and made a Conquistador Army instead!! A 9 improvement pillaging unit, that’s impervious to attack PER TURN. How good would that have been!! Since the First Spanish Game I’ve been desperate to have a Conquistador Army, maybe I’ll get one now, I’ve got enough elite units)

IBT- Sumerians move 2 more of their warriors next to Shantung, briging the number of units in my territory to 5. Looks like its gonna kick off.

880AD
First Conquistador created. Let the Age of the Conquistador Begin.

IBT- No war, they’re just moving somewhere. Spain researches Chemistry however people already have it. DOH!!

890AD
Sell Chemistry to the Koreans for 40 gold and 25gpt.

Time to wake the Sumerians up. DEMAND they remove their troops but they don’t play nice and do. Need to wait for a bit.

For the first time, Spain has a “Strong” military compared to Sumeria.

910AD
Sell Iroquois silks for 9 gold and their TM

920AD
Vikings ask to renew our Alliance against Celts. I refuse, just incase I need to make peace with them. Give them Ivory though for 14 gold and 1gpt. Cancel the deal with Russia as well.

930AD
DEMAND they Sumerians leave. They do, Grrrrrr

940AD
DEMAND they leave again. They do. What does a boy need to do to get a war around here!!!

960AD
Iroquois declare war on the Greeks. If I’m not at war with Sumeria by 1000AD I’m just gonna do it myself.

970AD
On the plus side I complete the Pentagon.

1000AD
Trade Korea Silks, Ivory and Iron for Banking and their Territory Map.

Demand Sumeria leave Spanish territory, they do (again) so declare war.

IBT- Iroquois want to trade their world map for mine + 720gold, I laugh at them. A LOT

Sumerians move the Army Group into Spanish territory, however they are still within range of the stack.

Loose a Conquistador which was exploring Sumerian territory.

1010AD
Bombard the biggest stack of units and attack.

steviejay1010golden.jpg

Shoot up to 161gpt.

Kill 6 Ed Warriors, 5 Horsemen, 7 Longbow men, 1 Archer and 1 Knight for the loss of 2 Conquistadors and 1 Knight. No bad odds.

Move the First and Second Armies into Sumerian territory. Notice that Bad-tibira is defended by a Knight, might raze the city.

IBT- Russia and Sumeria sign an alliance against Me. :Hmm: Hmmmmm

Sumeria move troops against the city of Hangchow. 2 Knights, 2 Longbow men and a Pike. Hangchow is defended by 2 Muskets, 1 Pike and 1 Elite MDI. Its walled but I’m not sure if it’ll hold out. If it doesn’t I’ve always got the two Armies to go take it back

They also move 2 Ed Warriors, 4 Longbow men, 2 MDI and 1 pike against Shantung however the city is manned by Trebuchets and all of Spain’s MDI’s, the stack won’t last.

1020AD
Kill 4 Ed warriors, 7 long bow men and 2 MDI for 1 AC lost to finally clear the south of the Sumerian Army Group and the units sent to harass the city of Shantung. I also get my 4th Leader out of it!! Conquistador Army!!!!!

The Third Army, heads for Bodo and kills an Ed Warrior there.

Second Army kills a Knight to relieve some pressure off of Hangchow.

IBT-
The longbow men attack Hangchow but the Knights retreat. Why??

1030AD
Kill another two Ed Warriors to capture Bodo. Move the rest of my forces into Shantung to heal before implementing the plan.

First Army makes a nuisance of itself by pillaging any improvement it can find. The Second Army launches itself into a stack of 3 Longbow men, 4 Knights and 2 Ed Warriors which has appeared outside Der, killing 2 knights.

IBT- Sumerians move the small stack towards Macao

Hmm, where’s that Pikeman going?

1040AD
Kill a Longbow man outside Marad and the Forth Army surges forward to create havoc.

Take out the Pikeman.

IBT- Sumerians offer peace. Refuse, the war isn’t even over yet.

1050AD
The Forth Army goes on a rampage north, pillaging along the way. Its also here that I notice the Russian Knights coming south. :Hmm: could be problematic.

Move units towards the city of Marad, due to the Jungles around the city Trebuchets are unable to reach the city at the same time as the units. In which case there will be no artillery support fro the attack on Marad, however there is a huge numerical superiority so the city shall fall.

The Second Army kills a Knight in order to retreat to Macao to heal before heading out once more.

Third Army moves towards Tutub, capturing two workers, one Viking, one Sumerian. The Viking “slave” shall be given back to Scandinavia….. for a price.

1060AD
Sell Banking to the Americans for Music Theory, 90 gold and 16gpt and get Navigation from the Inca for Banking and 200 gold

Give Education and my TM to Japan for Furs and Japan’s World Map
Ivory and Printing Press to India for Dyes, WM and 60 gold
Monotheism and TM to Rome for Incense.

Luxuries to 0%

WM to Scandinavia for WM and 6 gold

I can now see (pretty much) the whole world now
steviejay1070mini.jpg

The Celts are rather large, definitely the second biggest on the continent. Their land is really mountainous which will be a grade A ***** to break into but that’s in the future. The Scandinavians, despite attacking me long ago, are now officially my no.1 Pall on the continent and I’ll help them in any way I can. From looking at the map my main plan is now to push forward with the destruction of Sumeria, land a sizable defensive force on the peninsula to prevent any Celtic incursions and just push on to Russia. Any signs that the Vikings is crumbling and I’ll need to move in.

The other continent is rather…….. multi-national. The powers that be seemed to have only put a few on this big continent and then shoved the rest on the other continent. Which is fine by me. The two main powers atm on that continent are the Iroquois, America and Greece. The really good thing about that continent is, if I ever wanted to land an invasion force, the best bet would be either the Japanese or the Romans, due to their small size, but that’s in the far future. I’ve got problems closer to home first…

Kill 1 Musket man, 1 Ed Warrior and 1 Longbow man to capture the city of Tutub with the Third Army, no contest.

Kill 1 Musket man, 2 Pike and 1 Longbow man to capture the city of Marad along with 46 gold. 1 MDI was lost in the battle while 1 Conquistador was forced to retreat.

Take out 1 Knight, 1 Ed Warrior and 1 Longbow man threatening Macao.

Ur is all but disconnected from the rest of the Empire. It would be fully disconnected if it wasn’t for two annoying Russian units.

IBT- Sumerians rope in the Japanese against me, damn, there does my furs.

And the Romans, Damn there does my incense.

1070AD
Trade Ivory, Silks and TM for American Incense.

To save myself from being at war with my whole continent (as if I couldn’t handle them) I bring in the Scandinavians against Sumeria. They accept the alliance when Spain gives them Printing Press.

Sumeria is now a Democracy, :Hmm: lets see what they go like when I disconnect their capital.

Kill 2 Longbow men, 1 MDI and 1 Pike that was coming into range of Marad

The next objective, the city of Zabalam is only defended by Ed Warriors, when will they learn, I might not even need Trebs.

IBT- Loose a Conquistador to a Sumerian Longbow man, but it does take one with it.

What are the Sumerians doing? They’re not attacking the city of Macao, its like a street brawl and all they’re doing is standing on the outskirts shouting abuse and shaking their fists.Maybe they’re waiting for the Russian troops before attacking.

1080AD
Kill 2 Ed Warriors and a Longbow man to capture the Sumerian city of Nagsu, they now have no cities south of Macao and this also frees up the Third Army for offensive action.

The Forth Army finally gets blood on its weapons as it kills a Russia Knight which was at half strength.

With only Ed Warriors for defence the city of Zabalam falls with no loss, 2 Ed Warriors and 1 Longbow man die in the struggle (they do love their Longbow men don’t they??)

Tired of simply just waiting on the forces to come up and take Der, I move troops out of Macao and attack Der with Conquistadors. One Conquistador dies and 2 retreats but I kill 2 Musketmen and capture the city. I also get 1 Trebuchet which is a nice bonus. The Second Army kills a Knight to ensure that there is no unexpected attacks on the city until I have consolidated my position.

Kill 1 Ed Warrior, 1 MDI and 1 Longbow man who were just kinda sitting around Zabalam

IBT- Russia declares on the Vikings.

A Russian Knight tries to attack Macao but is forced to retreat.

1090AD
Hmm, now I’m not sure where to go. I’ve completed all my Pre-war objectives. I’ve pushed the Sumerians back and I’ve linked up my forces at Der. Now I need to decide where to go next. I could always makes peace but I don’t wanna. I wanna kill. The problem is I’m starting to encounter more Sumerian units (although any units that they do make need to take like 5 turns to get to the front because they have absolutely no road network (thank you Forth Army) The thing I’d really like would be one, huge open battle, where I could completely wipe out the Sumerian army, like I did at the very beginning of the war. I destroyed the bulk of their army and as a result I had easy sailing until they could rebuild. If I wiped out their army now, I could push on to Sumer, or maybe even Ur. The wild card is the Russians, how many units will they send down now that they’re at war with the Vikings, and even if they did they’d take forever to get down because they’ve got no roads to use.

The bad thing is, the complete destruction of the Sumerian road network has severely hampered my ability to move north, with the large amount of jungle still uncleared moving Trebuchets is next to impossible.

steviejay1090roads.jpg

The black routes show what major roads are still in place. I can get to the city of Bad-tibira using roads

I think I’ll wait for the Third Army to regain full strength then use that as a shield as I work north, following the roads as much as possible. The First and Second Army will now begin attacking any prize targets that make themselves known

Trim a MDI off the stack heading for Der, that leaves 1 Longbow man and 1 MDI. There is another stack just to the north of 2 Muskets, 2 Longbow men and 1 Ed Warrior.

Move a stack of 21 Trebs and 9 MDI’s defended by 5 Muskets to the border of Sumeria this will move on the city of Bad-Tibira and try to take the city while the Second Army will start taking out Sumerian units, Knights and Longbow men are priority.

Second Army takes out the MDI and Longbow man next to Der, the city is safe for the moment.

First Army kills another stack of 1 MDI and 1 Longbow man. Needs to retret to heal now.
Sign an RoP with the Vikings.

IBT- Rome declares on the Vikings

Russia begins moving more or less all the units they were sending south to me back north, probably for the Vikings to play with. Sumeria’s allies are abandoning her.

Beat back 1 Knight and 1 Longbow man outside Macao.

1100AD
Sell Inca horses for WM and 3gpt, I’ve got the horses, don’t need them, so might as well get what I can for them. Ivory to the Iroquois for WM, 17g and 14gpt

Cut down the Knight as it tries to retreat.

First army kills a longbow man on its retreat to heal

Third Army STILL not healed. Whats the problem here!!

IBT- Romans and Inca sign an alliance against me. Their loss, I was giving them horses.

Loose 1 Musket from the stack heading for Bad-tibira. But next turn it will come under the protection of the Second Army, so I’m not worried.

1110AD
Finally disconnect the iron and saltpetre deposits. The Sumerians are now reduced to fighting with sticks and stones

The Forth Army captures 2 workers who were trying to rebuild the roads to Ur. Kill the workers and destroy the road.

IBT- Sumeria brings in the Iroquois against me.

Inca declare on the Vikings

Sumerian city of Erech completes Magellan’s Voyage. Nice, its as good as mine

1120AD
This is the moment I’ve been waiting for. The stack has finally reached Bad-tibira but also, there are 7 Longbow men, 1 Ed Warrior, 1 MDI and 1 Mustket man situated around the city, excluding the numbers in the city itself this could be the big pitched battle I’ve been hoping for.

Kill 2 Ed Warriors and 1 Longbow man to capture the city with 4 slaves and another Trebuchet.

Wipe out all the Sumerian units around the city along with 2 knights which were hiding from view and………… GET ANOTHER LEADER!! :hammer: Another Army. What to put in it though, I’m very close to Cavalry and Riflemen……… I think I’ll wait.

IBT- Renew Ivory for 1gpt deal with the Vikings, They are now Gracious.

America and Iroquois sign an alliance against me. This is getting silly

Sumerians and French sign an alliance against me. This is getting REALLY

Silly

America and Korea sign an alliance against me. [sigh]

Sumerians land a Knight and 1 Longbow man outside Palma.

1130AD
I’m at war with ten different nations. To avoid myself getting REALLY chewed up I sign a treaty with Greece. In other words, I sign alliances with Greece again – Japan, Inca, Koreans, French, Romans, Americans and the Iroquois. I have to give them Ivory and Silks to seal the deal however

With the Forth Army I kill a musketman in Isin, on the west coast. And I move the Third Army towards Umma

The Second Army is acting as cover for the 7 knights, 8 AC’s and 3 Conquistadors heading for the Sumerian city of Lagash. This city is right beside Ur and will be essential for the attack on the capital.

IBT- How cool does the Bezerker look?? Honestly? It just looks cool

Korea declares on the Vikings.

Knight dies trying to attack Palma, Longbow man moves east.

Russians and Sumerians move troops towards Bad-tibira.

1140AD
Despite almost wiping out the Third Army, I’m able to kill 3 Muskets and capture the huge city of Umma. This must surely shake the Sumerians to the very core!!

Kill 2 Sumerians longbow men and 1 Russian Knight

The Sumerian front is just teeming with Spanish troops.

In total, there are-
Four Armies (1 AC, 1 MDI, 1 Knight, 1 Conquistador)
17 Conquistadors
14 Ancient Cavalry Units
9 Knights
13 MDI
18 Muskets
27 Trebs (2 Captured)
1 Spearman

And more arriving each turn. The Muskets are quite unneseccary at this point in time. The majority of them are sitting in Macao waiting for the lands to be captured so they can go fortify themselves in the cities.

Sell Physics to Greece for Metalurgy and WM

IBT- Celts declare on the Vikings. They won’t survive.

Loose a MDI and a Conquistador to Sumerian Longbow men

Russians move 3 Knights towards

1150AD
Kill the annoying Longbow man that was dropped off by ship.

Despite loosing 1 AC and having 4 Knights forced to retreat I’m successfully able to capture the Sumerian city of Lagash. Killing 3 Musketmen, 1 Longbow man and capturing 2 Cannons!!

Kill another 3 Longbow men outside Umma. They’re coming out the woodwork!! I really need to get my Conquistador army up to full health now so I can send it back to Ur because I’m certain they’ll have reconnected the city and some rescources by now.

Use a Conquistador outside Isin to capture 2 workers and use my other Conquistadors to capture the city, loosing 1 and having 3 forced to retreat. Conquistadors are amazing for this sort of fighting. Killing no less than 2 Musket men

The First Army, now at full health heads north towards Sumer, the Second City of Sumeria, killing 1 Longbow man along the way.

Loose 1 MDI to kill 2 Russian Knights, while one is forced to retreat. Kill 1 Sumerian MDI and 1 Longbow man just for good measure.

IBT- Trade TM with India becase they asked nicely.

Sumeria and Greece sign an alliance against the Iroquois. Hey wait a minute :hmm: ain’t they supposed to be………… well not talking!!!

India and Greece sign an alliance against the France and the Inca. That whole continent is going tits-up

Loose a MDI to the Russians.

1160AD
Third Army moves with 4 Conquistadors from Umma towards the Sumerian city of Erech. While the Forth Army moves north to just generally annoy anyone and everyone.

First Army moves into the hills overlooking Summer and the Second Army fortifies in Lagash to heal before the assault on Ur. War Weariness is starting to bite hard. Luxuries to 20%

Kill 1 Sumerian longbow man, 1 Russian MDI and 1 Russian Pike. I’ve started to notice a lot of Russian Knights moving south, need to keep an eye out for them.

Move 7 AC’s, 4 Knights, and 3 Conquistadors towards the Sumerian city of Agade

IBT- Romans and Japanese ask for peace, but if I accepted my rep would be ruined. So I’ll wait.

A Longbow man from Agade forces a Knight to retreat.

Russians demand Chemistry for peace. They are refused.

1170AD
Loose 2 Conquistadors however I do kill 3 Muskets and 1 Ed Warrior……….

steviejay1170erech.jpg

Nice.
The battle was hard fought. I was almost at the point of loosing if it wasn’t for a Conquistador rushing up from Isin. Was also able to capture 1 cannon.

Loose 2 Knights, 2 AC, 3 AC’s retreat however I do kill 3 Muskets and 1 Longbow man to capture the city of Agade. I’m getting careless……..

Kill 2 Muskets in Sumer using the First Army but I redline it and I demand it retreats.

Sell Physics to India for Gems and their WM. Should help the War Weariness just a bit

The main plan at the moment is to push the Sumerians back to the Mountains. The cities of Kish and Kua will be my borders. This will allow me to strengthen my hold upon the cities I’ve taken and also try to get some form of start done to rebuild the improvements I’ve ripped apart. I could probably push on and just destroy all of the Sumerian cities this round however the more I work up towards the finish line so to speak, the supply lines for Russia get smaller, and they’re starting to throw in a lot of Knights and unfortunately there’s no way I can kill Russia off before Cossacks come into play, however the border I will have with them will severely dampen the Cossacks as its mainly all mountains.

And then there’s war weariness. But I’m getting Gems from India and with Luxuries at 20% I’m getting WLTKD.

Move the main bulk of my army (5AC’s, 1 Conquistador, 2 Knights, 7 MDI’s, 2 Muskets and 26 Trebuchets) towards Sumer.

Use the Forth Army to capture a Sumerian worker trying to reconnect up the road to the Sumerians last Saltpetre deposit.

IBT- Loose an elite Conquistador I was foolish enough to leave in the open. It does take a Longbow man with it however.

The Celts demand Engineering for Peace, not a chance.

The First Army is attacked by a Russian Knight and only BARELY survives.

1180AD
Kill a Sumerian MDI.

Move the stack closer to SUmeria and notice its being defended by a regular Musket. Its now I realise that the Sumerians can’t replace any muskets I kill and seeing as the First Army killed a number of them a few turns ago I rush forward with Conquistadors. Four are forced to retreat however I’m not to be fazed.

steviejay1180sumer.jpg

I also get ANOTHER leader from the battle!! 1 soon to be Cavalry Army and now 1 soon to be Rifle Army  :hammer: This is gonna rock.

Kill that Longbow man camping on the hill outside Sumer seeing as the only units in Sumer at the moment are redlined Conquistadors.

The bad thing about being at war with………. Well everyone is the fact I can’t trade anything

IBT- Vikings ask to trade WM. I refuse but gift them Banking to help their war effort.

France declares on the Vikings.

The Vikings and the Iroquois sign an alliance against Japan.

India declares on the Vikings.

The Russians are moving 14 Knights south and the Iroquois land a Mounted warrior next to Palma. That city must have something really important to draw this attention.

1190AD
Take out the Mounted Warrior.

If I’m going to take Ur I do not want 14 Russian Knights sitting waiting to take it for themselves so I sign a peace treaty with Russia for 190 gold. I then get 218 gold and their WM for Chemistry.

Get WM and 9 gold from Greece for Horses.

Sell Metalurgy to the Indians for WM and 120 gold

Kill 1 longbow man and 1 MDI with the Forth Army

Move the Second Army along with 2 Conquistadors and 3 Knights towards Ur. “Hopefully” it will be enough to take the city but I always feel naked going after cities without artillery support. The Forth Army is close enough to lend support should it be necessary

IBT- Scandinavia and Sumeria sign a peace treaty. Not that I’m fussed.

The Inca land 3 Longbow men outside Palma. Same spot as always

I "should" win it, whether I do or not is a completely different question

next part coming up. I was going out for dinner with my girlfriend but she's too ill, so I can finish up this war.

You officially have me hooked, man. :)
