Finland is in Scandinavia. Discuss.

Not that hard of a concept. Especially considering the reputed education levels of the subject realms.

Yes, it's pretty weird to read some finns comments here because we've been taught all about Scandinavia, Fennoscandia and the Nordic Countries. Back in the eight or ninth grade we had to study several hours in geography class about Nordic area (and i'm not even counting history and swedish classes), where the terms surely became known. Don't know if these guys been sleeping then. Chances are they've forgot something because this is my first time I've heard the term Fennoscandia since school times. :mischief:

Hi everyone! My first post:blush: bit nervous, but I'm a longtime lurker hehe.

I am half finnish, and finland definently is in scandinavia, same culture, same heritage, close history, the only different thing is that finland doesn't fit the language groupings.

Here is a much better example of how genes flow - Distribution of blond hair:

The yellow area is 80%+ blond hair. (source)

By your genetic arguments, you should exclude Denmark from Scandinavia as they are so far from the core of the blond hair area!

I seriously doubt that map. And how come I have blonde hair (as all my mother's family) and I live in the darkest colored region there?

If you live in Bucharest, wikipedia link explains it to be 1-19% blonde hair area. And of course single cases don't weight much in percentages. But I do agree, the map is suspicious.

I find it btw intriguing that both Adebisi and McManus have written to this thread. ;)

Edit: Edited post above, seen extra text in the quote. What's with Adebisi and McManus? :crazyeye:

They're kind of enemies of each others in a tv-series Oz.

Pro-map pepople of course would say that your mother's family is part of that 1-19%, surely they aren't more than 19% of Bucharestian population? ;) It would be more intresting to know how exceptional blondes are cosidered there.

My family is big! (just joking ;))

They are not considered really exceptional, they are common. Of course, I'm talking here about women below 35 and men (in general), because you can never be sure if they are "dyed" or not after that age. :) I'm dark blond, for example.
