Firaxis is doing live demo of CivBE tomorrow!!!!!

I just finished watching the Livestream. Not much new info, and it left many people wanting to see more. Could have done without the trolls though, but hey this is the Internet, right?

Just finished watching it, looks very cool indeed. I missed the first 10 mins though so will have to catch that later.

I like the fact if feels more 'organic' especially in terms of how the aliens act. In real life you left them alone, they might leave you alone etc rather than just rampant attacking for no real reason. They make a lot more sense than Barbarians and seem to be more fun and complex to interact with. Plus I'm seeing fun modding possibilities with their behavior as well as visuals etc.

Gets a thumbs up from me anyway, I wish they had just played through one game for the whole time instead of two, the second go around illustrated the point but didn't add much. The best news is the news that we finally get to see late game gameplay next week! Good job Firaxis and Pete :)

Initial thoughts on video:

CivBE seems offer much more choices and strategies in the early game than civ5.

Loved that we got see several new techs and virtues that we've not seen before in previews!

Love the quests and how they give players different choices which grant different bonuses.

Virtue screen is cool. The bonuses look great! The vertical and horizontal synergy bonuses are an improvement on the SP system in civ5.

Tech web is a big improvement over the tech tree. Opens up more choices. I'm really liking the different things that the techs give you in the early game.

Brasilia will definitely be a strong military faction, especially when you focus heavily on the might virtue.

Yes i saw the coral, pretty cool. Wonder if it is a luxury resource or used for something.

I particularly liked that the aliens had some kind of motivated behaviour.

Diplomacy screen is a vaste improvement: I very much like seeing the map I m the background and only the person I am speaking with. The civ5 diplomacy animations would stall my whole computer unnecessarily.

Was the quest generation random or is it just me?
I didn't see any in his 2nd playthrough.

10 more weeks .... -_- can't wait!

It really looks like I imagined, well polished, natural and with many improvements since Civ5, especially in the early game.

EDIT: Never mind, figured out that Twitch has "past broadcasts option". Just pass the stupid man and don't make an eye contact.

It will be on youtube, I intend to watch it once I get off work.

I think it goes beyond mere 'improvements' - this is a different beast, a different game altogether. I think the idea this is just a mod or could be just a mod is ridiculous and the more we see of this the more it looks fully fleshed out and a complete step change in the series.

It seems like a lot of simple systems that when combined make a large complex strategy game which I love. It's like Go or Chess, easy to learn but hard to master - the hallmark of any good game.

Loving the early game activity too. No longer will I click 'explore' on my unit and then hit next turn about two dozen times as my techs and city grow. Looks like you hit the ground running and the early game could be quite slowly paced as you figure everything out, which is great :)

The Virtue's panel was my favorite feature. It's looking great, both its visual and gameplay.

I also feel that the virtues were the most interesting thing they showed today. The quest decisions were neat too. It kind of reminds me of decisions you are prompted to make in Crusader Kings 2.

Ok, here my initial thoughts.

First the bad:
He said Brasilia's UA is currently +10% strength for melee units. That sounds very boring and rather weak. I hope they change that.
Vadim Kozlov. I wanted him to be mixed. And his tech quote sounds like it was something out of the USSR.
They seem to be repeating one of the mistakes of early Civ5 by having some very weak buildings that aren't worth the production nor the maintenance cost. Specifically the one that only ncreses military productionby 10% and the observatory that gives a whopping 2 science.

I could express disappointment that the tech quotes aren't read in the leader's voice, but that might still be a placeholder.

The good:
I really like the tech variety and the different possible early game strategies.
His health didn't go down when his city grew. It's possible health only limits the number of cities. Maybe expansion isn't as restricted asin Civ5 after you can afford the more expensive settlers.
The virtues look neat. I like every one of the effects we saw, and he gave us some fodder to pause and analyse tooltips for when the video goes on youtube.
Satellies seem to last longer than I expected. Every review mentioned they stay in orbit "for a short time", but that solar collector had a life expectancy of 60 turns, and judging from his tech and values rate he was probably playing on quick.

There would have been a helluva lot more payoff in part 1 of the demo if we'd actually been able to see a Siege worm. Bad planning on their part, at a minimum they could have loaded up that version of the game 30 turns later or something and shown us what it's like.

Liked everything else I saw and wanted to smack the hell out of the folks saying it's "barely a mod". I liked that aliens heal in miasma, and they look much tougher compared to how tough barbs are on Chieftain difficulty. Good idea to have alien kills lead to science, too (if you go Might).

It was kind of disappointing (same planet type), but the antics behind him were funny. I liked the tech tree. I also liked the alien behavior.

When did Kozlov even get mentioned? Must have missed that part of the stream.
Did we see him?

No, but he was mentioned in the Engineering quote:

[22:00] "Instruct the children not to dream of toys or sweets. Instruct them to dream of infrastructure" - Vadim Kozlov, Axioms from the Minutes of the Central Directorate.

Very creepy.

Specifically the one that only ncreses military productionby 10% and the observatory that gives a whopping 2 science.

The observatory also gives +1 science for firaxite in your city radius in addition to +2 science. So, if your city has one or more firaxite, it could be worth it.
