Firaxis is doing live demo of CivBE tomorrow!!!!!

Heh you can tell that dude is nervous as all hell, but still managed to present this smoothly and professionally. Kudos to him :)

I like the idea of bonuses for getting virtues/policies horizontally.

Yup.. it was a little painfull to watch at times when he forgot that Explorer moves 2 grid. He even forgot the wolfbeetles possition in a single turn and managed to do gridlock with 3 units

But in the end. I think the stream did its purpouse. DON'T ATTACK ALIENS ALL THE TIME.. The warnings go from green to orange to red. Hopefully they also come down, because: as was told in the video about the good spot for second city, the wolfbeetles nest would have been right next to it. So in the end it was necessary to remove the nest.

Plus, he kept calling his "soldier" unit a marine when he had not upgraded his units to marine yet.

I think the best strategy with aliens is to pick your battles carefully. Only attack them when you really need to.

He clearly concentrated on making the commentary interesting, ever seen lets plays of strategy games? "ähem, we should, no wait better to do, orrrrrr..... ah yes, lets do this..."

When trying to give a good show, the play usually suffers, unless you're an absolute pro at presenting. I had expected them to have someone else playing while he would comment (but that would have made the commenting a little more detatched). It was a very good presenation overall.

I don't know...
I really enjoy Quill18's and Marbozir's Civ5 LPs.

Female voice is just a stub.
Vadim is male name and Kozlov is male surname.

I'm not 100% knowledgeable on my Slavic surnames, but if Vadim was a female, wouldn't it be Kozlova?

There's no such female name as Vadim. Vadim is a male name through and through. And pretty meh, I might add. It's a very... simple name. And yes the surname would be Kozlova, if there was a female.

So do I. And they are really professionals by now with huge experience. But if you look closely you see them making dumb errors on a regular basis, they would not make if they could concentrate fully on the gameplay. The fact that they can play well and comment very well at the same time shows their experience.

What we're planning to show is how the aliens act as their own faction, and the consequences of treating them as barbarians. All those other topics that have been mentioned (loadout strategy, or a deeper playthrough) we will get to in the coming weeks. The reason we're focusing on the aliens first is that we've found in our hands-on sessions, new players tend to assume that they either MUST kill all aliens, or greatly underestimate the threat these offer. It's one of the biggest changes from core Civ, it's something we can demonstrate easily, and it's useful information for players regardless of skill level.

We'll be playing as Brasilia.

Thank you for the let's play vid. Where you aware of the shenanigans behind you?

Then he sent his first explorer to work in an expedition site covered by miasma. The poor guy died, he didn't notice and sent in the second explorer to his inevitable death.

Pete is clearly worse than Hitler! ;) Can't wait his next stream, though.

I bet he'll be far less nervous after reading this.

Yeah he definitely seemed to have some issues navigating around the miasma. Moving guys into it for no reason and such. I'm chalking it up to the fact that he was giving a presentation and therefore not concentrating fully on playing the game, anyone would make mistakes in that kind of situation.

My biggest concern was definitely the thing where the aliens aggression levels is not faction-dependent. If I'm playing a faction that wants to go Harmony, I don't want to end up having to wipe out tons of aliens just because I happened to start next to Brasilia, who went balls out against the aliens. Hopefully players that want to be more peaceful towards the aliens will have access to tools that help us in this regard.

I can think of 2 ways to help that
1. Attacking aliens makes the more aggressive to all... But a lot more aggressive to you.
2. Harmony techs to reduce alien aggression to you if you don't attack them.

On the question of Aliens, it was interesting that the bonus from Might was significant science boost. If Pete had waited he would have gotten 35 science per nest and then half alien strength for each kill. Given how low his beakers were, that's like two early techs. It seems that if you're in a situation where you're surrounded by hostile aliens or simply juicy targets, Might has a real science push, which is a nice change from Honor.

Opening prosperity would seem valuable once you've got larger cities. +10% is hardly much when you're under 10 beakers. Better military or trade, at least from what I saw on this build.

It is very possible that a Harmony faction will get ways of capturing alien lifeforms. So a militant Brasilia that is attacking the alien lifeforms right next to you, could seriously backfire on Brasilia as it could actually help the Harmony player get free military units to attack Brasilia with.

Oki.. sence i started it, i have to say something.. Dont be too hard on Pete... Its clear that he isnt the guy who gives speeches.. He prolly is a gamer..

Couple pro tips:

dont use Book language, just use your own words, cause you are talking to fellow gamers.. For example: say civ be instead of always Civilization Beyond earth. Only no noes are: Swearing etc.. in live feed.

Rehearse what you are going to say: Basicly you have to play diffrent scenarious over and over.. talk allone while playing... It will come as second nature.

Relax: people listening, they dont know the first thing about it yet.. You are the GOD of knollege.. Dont be affraid of silence...

Dont repeat your self: There are some things already known to those listening to stream.. They have already seen other footage.. they who are rly looking to stream are hard core gamers (civfanatics).. You dont have to tell twice everyhting.. Actually you dont have even to say a single thing that have been covered on previous footage... Just Be you self.. Not everything has to be explaned every time.. Take pause in talking and just play.

Most important: Have fun.. its not a bad thing if you call Wulfbeatle to "Dung beattle".. Players are doing it anyway (atleast i do).

P.S. Whats up with the "sea Dragon" it looks like bloated Seal with fluffy ears.. I hope we get a close up.. cause now i think its sorta like: whoos a good dragon.. wanna little rub... Thats my little pet dragon.. . I rly hope it up on close looks like bad ass.. i dont see it yet.

Maybbe someone with good skills could start making mod already: Make the " Sea Dragon" look like a maybbe chinise dragon.. you know moving like a snake on water.. long body with spikes, big head with big teeth.. Maybbe bone spikes to the torso.

heh.. btw it would be kinda funny if we could get the first mod ready before the game launches.. Just use the civ 5 as a base.

Hmm.. hah

I really enjoyed the video. Thanks Pete, looking forward to future Lets Plays! I think you succeeded at showing how the aliens react different, but it opens up a lot of questions. One being, as a harmony player, how do you found colonies without upsetting the planet? I'd hate to forego an awesome city spot because an alien nest is nearby. (Maybe I'm not cut out to play as harmony lol.) As a purity player, RP wise, you will want to hunt and exterminate all alien presence. It sounds like taking that approach could seriously hurt early growth, particularly expansion. It also sounds very annoying how trade routes will be targetted if you are aggressive. I hated how when going to war in CiV, all my sea routes were pretty guaranteed to be plundered by the enemy. With aliens ongoing, that will be a concern throughout the game. I could go on and on. Can't wait to play and discover these things.

Then he sent his first explorer to work in an expedition site covered by miasma. The poor guy died, he didn't notice and sent in the second explorer to his inevitable death.

I hope they still fix this: the explorer should heal while excavating. if else excavating things under miasma might be quite impossible, which is surely not intended. Or just make the explorer invulnerable to miasma.

You... say that? I always say Civilization Beyond Earth or just Beyond Earth. I only write Civ:BE because text is a medium where abbreviations work, they don't work spoken.

Different people just talk differently, he didn't sound too forced or anything, just a little bit nervous. If he said Cifbee or dung beetle, I'd think he was unnatural or fake, in fact!

I didint mean it sounded forced.. I meant using short custom names would make it more gamers friendly.. If there were even one casual player watching live stream i would be suppriced..

It was just to say.. you can say civ.. instead always saying civilization.. etc..

What ever comes natural.. dont use "book words"
