Firaxis Releases Civilization IV: Colonization Information, Features

What's with all these posters from countries whose names start with 'P'?

Lots of countries aren't in, learn to deal with it.

Hehehehehe...Papua New Guinea! (Though it totally should be a civ in Civ V)

Cont'd (Because it developed agriculture independently in 7000 BC and spread its crops 10,000 miles. And it is the probable founding land of the Polynesians. They're just awesome! And Jared Diamond mentions them a lot. They sound like an extremely interesting culture.)

But, I digress.

Spoiler message to garbageinhere :
É só durante este mês. Depois procuro outro. ;) Peace!

Portugal was integral in the Age of Imperialism.

To exclude Portugal would be unwise.

Not during the era of Imperialism, but instead during the era of Colonialism which IS the time period featured in Colonization.

Apart from all this Portugalizing ....

1) What about the pirates? Will there be a possibility of a independent Pirate player, not just as tool for the colonial powers??

2) Will there be different winning possibilities, such as economic victory (as Dutch?), domiation victory (as Spanish who dont let other Eurpeans in), cooperation victory (French?).

3) Will there be a possibility to play on after independence? Some new goals?

P.S.: What about different continents ...? The English and French in India, in Australia, in Africa ......?

Scenarios??

I think it's just in the Americas to be honest.

Different victories might muck up the system.

Indepedent Pirates would be pretty sick, but it again might muck up the system.

After independence would just be playing the industrial era in civ! So, no.

im sorry if this offends anyone, but i think the game is directed toward an American Player.
I mean, the first things Americans learn about in School is The Revolution and Louisana Purchase.
That obviously explains French and English.
And, every American knows of the Country to the south, Explaining Spain.
Finnally, most americans who would like this game know that New York use to be New Amsterdam, Explaining Dutch.
Also, all 4 really contributed to the America of today. With this game including an Independence factor, the most famous(i believe) revolution in all Colonization, possibly the world, was of course the American Revolution.

Can everybody please shut up about portugal. This game is a remake of the original. In the original there was no portugal.
AND this game will be moddable, it even comes with the tools for it. So just wait a few weeks after release and your precious portugal will be ready for downloading.

The whole thing about colonisation is that you start with trade with the natives, then conquer them for more money and then defend yourself after declaration of independance. If india africa and/or australia is in it, they would need more natives accordingly. Aboriginals weren't that rich (as compared to maya's) India is a whole different story and africa... perhaps as a scenario they can find enough different tribes, but also here i can't think of an equivalent to the maya's and inca's
Also, how would you work with the founding fathers, this is also a crucial ingredient for colonization.

If it was up to me i would want a revamped original with better graphics an nothing (much) else. Let the modding community create the rest.

Portugal? Poland? I want Pomerania and/or Prussia. :) Oops I forgot, The Monastic State of the Teutonic Order.

I think it would have been nice to make the native american civs playable. I realize that this would be turning history on its ear, but it would be fun to be able to repel the colonists or even attack the old world.

Uhm.... If you want that... why don't you just play Civ IV? Perhaps Rhye's mod?

So will the game play be similar to the original?

Specialists that can train others, etc?

Also, I assume they will play the coward card and NOT include slavery...again.

What about China? Has anyone read the non-fiction book "1421." It strongly suggests that China reached Australia, south america, and western US before Europe even reached US. There is a fair amount of Chinese DNA and artifacts in these places. As well, it is hypothesized that the Berring straights were open at that time and that China sailed around Canada. I think China should be in there!

but there is no 100% credible evidence of that... and the Chinese never were much distinguished from other countries by their naval abilities

Shup up you! Remakes are done to get better, and not to be same!!

Scientists should read this post, crawl into a safe corner and weep.

The leader of a major cancer research society, whose name escapes me, said that the DNA tests were a "scam."

The little Ice Age was in full swing in 1421, no way the Chinese could get to Greenland, Iceland, the North Pole, etc. In Collapse, my third favorite book after the Bible and GGS, Diamond lists this Little Ice Age as a major force in Norse Greenland's collapse. No way seamen from subtropical Fujian would survive where seamen from subarctic Trondheim would die!

Also, much of Menzies' "evidence" is clearly made up! For example, look at his "1418" Map! It clearly says "America" on America! Also, the title of the map is redundant. My Chinese friends have confirmed this. Continually, they use simplified characters that officials would never have dared to use in an official map. Additionally, Zheng He's name is listed as "Ma Sanbao" which would never be used after the Emporer had renamed him "Zheng He!"

There is absolutely no evidence for this book. It says that Maoris are the product of Melanesian murderers and Chinese concubines! It says that Polynesians and their crops were spread by China, though they were spread as much as 1000 years earlier!

It credits China with the rise of the Triple Alliance and Tahuantinsuyu as well as the Renaissance.

The only people not disenfranchised by Menzies is, you guessed it, the Chinese.

No wonder no scholars actually support this unproven myth.
