First Look: Scythia

can someone please write out their uniques for people who cant watch yet

Agenda: hates surprise wars

units get a bonus when they attack wounded units and heal a little when they defeat an enemy

create 2 units instead of one when building light cavalry or Saka Horse archer

Unique Unit: Saka Horse Archer-doesn't require horses (like the Hunnic unique unit in Civ5)

Unique improvement: Kurgan (bonus for being near pastures, provides gold and faith, can't build next to hills or next to another Kurgan)

I bet Scythia is the replacement for the Huns. I wonder if Tomyris is speaking Ossetian, are Ossetian speakers hard to find? Could be using Persian though?

There are half a million Ossetian speakers. Farsi is quite close, but Ossetian would be more fun. I have a feeling it's Ossetian - the sound of the language leaves strange impression what I'm hearing Russian even though words are not recognizable. Could be a bilingual Russian/Ossetian speaker.

Scythia is an obvious inclusion for the sake of TSL i think that can be noted. Agree with the above posters about the horses, just give her a horse resource start bias and allow them to yield double or triple their yield and lower the production costs of all horse units or something. Imho it's kinda underwhelming but i wouldn't be surprised if patches/expansions change her up a bit of that by release things are a bit different.

Tile - Kurgan gold/faith bonus next to pasture (can't place next to one another)
Unit - Sakka Horse Archer doesn't need horses
Bonus - Building Unique Horse Archer or Light Cal get 2
Bonus - Bonus to killing wounded units and heal on kill
Agenda - Hates surprise war

I am impressed. They look a bit too strong and this brings back days of Alex rushing horses. We shall see how balanced things are.

I think Tomyris looks fairly awesome and I love that we're getting someone totally new. I'm at work so I couldn't watch the video with sound...can someone post all of the details about their uniques?

Its really important for those civs with early game units. Since you don't have time to explore/settle more, if your unique requires something and you get a garbo start then it complete nullifies it through no fault of your own. It would just be unfun design so its good they remove it.

This is generally only true for horses, since iron and all other rescourse-based UU come later you will have had time to expand.
I agree it would be unfun if your ancient era UU was not avaliable, that is why I suggest starting bias/spawn horse resource in capital instead of this.
I realize in game terms its absolutely fine but it's such a break in immersion for (what I think) no good reason. Whereas Scythians settling down their first city near horses makes sense.

Underwhelming? I'm sorry but no.

The gurl is a powerhouse.

NOT only does she get Horse Archers that don't require Resource to produce, they HEAL after they kill a unit, they also will always have DOUBLE the size of an army for each unit they produce that is Mounted.

That is a powerful bonus and she is going to be a force to be recokned with.

If anything she sounds a bit too powerful.

So do we think that Scythia = no Mongols, at least in vanilla?

The two Civs would seem to occupy the same niche...

Possibly. Since we don't seem to be getting Genghis Khan, it could be Mongols under Kublai with less emphasis on mounted conquest and more on culture and wide spread infrastructure.

Interesting.
Do we know the # for the "X turns" yet, or does it change throughout the game?

Mongols will definitely return one day. They are a civ staple. :D

UA receive 2 light cavalry/horse archers for the price of 1
UU horse archer requiring 0 horses,
UA2 more dmg to wounded, heals when kills a unit
UI gives gold and faith.... Bonus next to pastures, flat land only, not adjacent to itself/hills

Only 1 range for the horse archers... Makes them not so good in rough terrain. If you get Scythia as a neighbor, settle on the plains at your peril!

Don't forget she has a bonus against wounded units & can specialize in early faith and gold.

I dunno if anyone noticed but the Horse Archers have 4 movement and one range.

That, and it sounds like she gets first pick of Pantheon to pad out her abilities and more Gold to support a larger army.

No mention of her awesome model? I think she is by far the best model of a leader released yet, with reworked teddy taking place two on that list. Seeing the model of Tomyris you immediatly think of a tough leader you wouldn't want to mess with.
It makes me hope, that they changed their view on leader models and tune their wackyness down a little.
Qin and Pedro could need some love to display their personalities a bit better.

I thought the Mongols would have similar bonuses. Oh well, found my Civ to satisfy my early game bloodlust, along with Monty of course.

Oh yes yes yes I jus notice they finally have unit icons in place. No more of those ugly low res 3D models floating in a void.

That, she is far from underwhelming, she's a massive warmonger if she needs to be.
