FirstAge v0.2: An Extended Ancient Era Mod

Ok, here is a quick update. I've been spending the last week playtesting the next version and it seems to work out as very playable. The annoying crash to desktop seems to be gone (well over 300 turns in couple different games with no probs). I just got a really great canoe graphic from Rabbit, White so I'll be putting that in.

If all goes well I should have v0.4 uploaded by the end of this week, it will have many changes and quite a few new additions. This will be the last gameplay version, but at some point I will release a v0.45 that will include the Great Options Mod by TheLopez which will be a compollation of many of his great mods. As I think I mentioned in a previous post, there will be a Scenario included with v0.4, I am currently playtesting it and putting on the following touches.

After that I am going to call this mod finished and begin work on the SecondAge Mod wich will be based around the Bronze Age. Stay tuned for updates. :)

I don't know what you mean, FileFront is a free host. I checked the link and I downloaded it just fine.
 
Version 0.4 is out. This will be the last update for awhile. I've played quite a few games of this version and find it quite enjoyable. I will be releasing one more updates once TheLopez finishes his Great Options Mod and I will also incorporate my JFort Mod(see my sig) once it is in a stable version.

Try it out and let me know if ya like it, hate it, or just think something should be differnt, this version will be here for awhile. :)
 
I reuploaded v0.4, this time on CivFanatics File Database. To meet the CFCDB 10MB file limit I had to take the 3 Wonder Movie files out of the main zip file. They are included in the link right below the main one. Just put the 3 Wonder Movie files in the <Civ4>/Mods/FirstAge/Assets/Art/Movies/ directory.
 
I really like the ideal of this mod. I think the game skips out on a very major aspect of human history when it allows you to research agriculture in 12 turns and then automatically your the master of growing everything everywere.
 
Thanx, I also agree that the ancient era is much to skipped over. :)

I am tenitive planning FirstAgeII Mod that will be a revamp of this mod, but with more new units, graphics, python comps, ect. But don't get your hopes up or anything, it will be well into next year before I even start coding it. :)
 
I've just recently become a Civ Fan and begun playing mods so bear with me. What is the actual progression of years when you begin the game for this mod? Does it still advance 5+ years a turn or does it actually advance 1 turn at a time? The reason I ask is because I really would like to play a mod that allows the entire game to progress one turn at a time and not really fast in ancient times and then slows down after ancient times. The concept of this mod sounds good though.
 
Hi, an interesting mod. Almost what I was thinking of doing when I figured out how to mod.

The pressing of enter & building and deleting of units is a bit tedious.

Have you thought about adding some stone age projects? It looks like they can be sort of national wonders without the limits. I was thinking of something like "agraian calendar" which actually gives you the health benifits from corn, rice and wheat and perhaps +1 food from farm. These resources would not give the health benifit by default and farms would not give extra food until you built it. Similarly, "migraion calendar" and "tidal calendar".

Some early religions may be of interest also. You already have ancestor worship as a tech.

There has also been some discussion in the litrature on who domesticated who. Ie did dogs (wolves) domesticate humans or the other way around :crazyeye:

(I have lots of ideas but, at the moment, lack the skill to implement them.)

edit: oh by the way the movies did not work. I put them in the specified place?
 
i would like a few things.
1.make no matinence costs until the palace is built. then make the palace give more benefits
2.make base camps able to make a unit or two..or something
3. cold you make the units like scouts, hunters, etc. be able to capture animals?
4.could you possibly make the game lead into the rest of the tech tree(but only if you have many of the older techs)

5.has anyone but me notice that jungles are not removable, yet growing in this mod?
 
This mod has been dead for a long time, although I wish they would revive it.

I have no plans to mess with this mod at all. My time is filled as it is with Python and SDK modding. :)
