Five Hours to Kill in NYC

I find myself, to my surprise, with five hours to kill in NYC.
What would you do with five hours of time in NYC or another favorite city?

For what it's worth, I'll be starting in lower Manhattan at one and leaving from Penn Station at six so I'm probably not going to leave the island or go north of the Park. Any suggestions are welcome.

Ask random people you come across if they want to enter some quick, uncomplicated sexual activities with you.

If prank channels on youtube are to be believed, you'll be as surprised about their responses as they're surprised about the question.

Have you been to NYC before, how much money do you want to spend and what time of day will you be there?
Central Park is always worth a visit - its flair is unique. You can do/ watch sports there, chill out, see a theater play or rent a rowing boat all while having all these skyscapers in the background.
There is plenty of Art in NYC so there is always an exhibition worth visiting.
In the past taking the free ferry to staten Island (NJ) was also a good trip to see the skyline, but i am not sure if the Ferry is operating die to NJs financial issues.

I was there for a weekend last year, my hotel was near broadway. Some things I did that you could do in 5 hours:

- Go up the Empire State Building to the observation deck.
- Visit the 911 memorial. Sad place but powerful. There's also a really cool looking transportation centre building being built right beside it. Not sure about name but it really stands out
- The American Museum of Natural History is a bit out of the way but not much. 5 hours could be the perfect amount of time to stroll through it (incl. the time it would take to get there and back)
- If you do the above, you're right near central park. Either way a stroll through central park could be an option
- Could go see the Book of Mormon on Broadway or some other play you're interested in
- Could probably go see the statue of liberty in that amount of time

What would you do with five hours of time in NYC or another favorite city?

I know you said you probably won't leave the island, but the Brooklyn botanical gardens are really awesome.

I haven't been to New York in ages, but the Intrepid is always neat.

I went to the 9/11 memorial. I have no problem w/ people snapping pics of it, but I doing selfies of yourself in front of the memorial is de classe.

Then I walked up to Chelsea by way of Mulberry Street to go to the Highline. Made a few stops for "refreshment" along the way.

Great time.

Penn Station can go take a leap though.

You could do several little things (Empire state, Central park, Statue of Liberty, 911, Trump Tower, etc) or do one thing more thoroughly (MOMA, Natural History Museum, Brooklyn botanical, etc.). Don't forget Little Italy and China Town. Or maybe just do a shopping thing.

I saw a woman taking a selfie in front of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial when I was there. She did the whole two finger thing and smiled and tried to get the best shot. Def. not a local, some stupid random tourist. For 20 minutes before all this I was walking around the structure, taking it all in, feeling so so.. sad.. and depressed.. and just.. feelings that can't be put into words. And then I see somebody taking a cheerful selfie?? WTH

I assume she then posted this on social media for internet points.. Like.. what sort of chicken brain do you have to have to do something like that? The plaque with a description of what the building is was right there, and she was looking at it for a while before taking the selfies. I just can't comprehend the thought process involved to want to take a smiling selfie in that situation or what she can possibly hope to accomplish by sharing the image with her friends and informing them what a moron she is

We can visit the new World Trade Center tower 1 as well as the Empire State Building, those are more democratic. The lower Manhattan area has lots of famous landmarks. JFK International Airport serves around 8.5 millions of travelers and has 8 concourse terminals, not sure if anyone has visited all of them.
