Five little know facts about your country

1. A glorious victory over England, in England, in 1667!

As previously stated it was hardly an invasion, William was invited over here. The King's army had deserted him and he himself had fled. It was even called the 'Bloodless Revolution'.

We replaced our King with a Dutch Puppet. It was definately not a 'Glorious Victory over England'.

I forgot another little known fact about Switzerland:

The majority of us don't live in the alps

Recently, the gov. funded poll showed, that 40% of W. Europeans think the Czechs as just a poor sad villagers without ambitions

I've always thought the Europeans are more educated than the Americans, but now I seriously doubt it :D

Some facts for my foreign friends:

1)
Scotland is not in England-land.

2)
We do not wear woad and shriek 'freedoooom!' all the time.

3)
No, we do not know your obscure relative who lives in Aberdeen.

4)
Not everyone drinks gallons of booze and worships football (or soccer to Americans).

5)
We do not all have red hair and wear white vests and kilts.

:)

Indeed, but since the Bloodless Revolution took place in 1688, and the battle in question in 1667, you and Stapel must be talking about different events.

I was refering to the Second Anglo-Dutch war of 1665-1667. William (III) of Orange was invited in 1688. Get your history right dude ;) !

The 14th US state was called Franklin and existed for over a decade in what today is Western NC.
I thought Franklin was part of North Carolina but was then put in Tennesse, I'll go along with you though since history books always seem to glance over things like that.

Roanoke, NC was the real site of the first English colony. But is fell of the face of the earth and now Jamestown is mostly known as the first English colony.
You forgot the qualifier "in America."

Czech republic

I was told this ... while drunk in Prague and drunk in the city that sounds like you are clearing your throat (where Drak Puppet Theatre Company is based and the Northern European Festival of Theatre is hosted in June)

>first president was a philosopher
>Frank Zappa was asked to be Minister of Culture
>Weird Easter custom ... the men visit the ladies of the village and then are each permitted to whip them with willow (or birch) branches
>Christmas play (I saw this a spun me out) ... the Jesus is born in a stable but snowing outside ... enter the devil  dark haired woman dressed in tight black leather brandishing a whip ... very sexy ... I watched this in a theatre with all ages kiddies to grandparents ... thought that was very cool :)
>Absinth is an evil drink :D

Maybe some of our Czech members can verify
