Five take on the world revisited (5CCC - deity)

A MPP will not be triggered by a declaration of war. Is good to have Steam, but I'd liked to be at war. I hope that Sumeria hasn't got tanks when we start a dogpile.

EDIT: The biggest problem of a MPP is that we don't control the wars we will be in. And another problem is that Sumeria has to attack us first. A MPP with the Aztecs might be worthwile (since we can't get them to MA vs Sumeria), but I prefer MA's with the rest. But we then can't attack first. We have to wait for the MPP the trigger before we can think offensively. If we want to think that way that is.
 
I won't be available until midweek next week, so if someone wants to swap my turns after Nad, I will take it from Wednesday or Thursday.
 
Inherited Turn 1150AD

shuffled a few tiles around. Bactra, Pasargadae, Arbela and Gordium all changed to colosseum. Ended min run on sanitation. 9 turns left on Sumeria deal...

Early: started railnet.

Middle: training units after colloseums completed, except Bactra which started university. In 1200AD I noticed that Aztecs and Sumeria were no longer MPP'd, which is excellent news :).

Late: complete military railnet. Aztecs picked up electricity in 1230AD (Zulu and Netherlands picked it up later in 1250AD). In 1240AD deal with Sumeria is ready to end, and fun starts.

Cancel spices deal. Thanks to colloseums we don't need to increase lux rate. Demand industrialization, electricity and communism from Sumeria. They refuse, we declare war. Kill 2 Sumerian slaves and capture 2 more.

Alliances are very expensive, but sign in Zulu for 37gpt and Netherlands for wm, coal + 32gpt.

In the interturn the Sumerians attack us and MPP is triggered. We lose 3 rifles, an immortal and 5 slaves, killung 2 cavalry and a guerilla, but that's a small price for the initial Sumerian onslaught.

Sumeria decides to blow some cash:

In 1250AD we kill 3 Sumerian cavalry and recapture a slave. Time for the next player to pull the strings :).
 
IHT: We are at war with the foe of the world. And we are backward. But also only two tech from infantry and artillery. The Sumerians haven't got airports yet.

IT: No counterattack. Sumeria finishes the Universal Suffrage.

Turn 1 (1255 AD) I'm starting to build a few cannons.

IT: Sumeria finishes ToE.

Turn 2 (1260 AD) Only thing to do is worker actions and waiting for a Sumerian attack.

Turn 3 (1265 AD) Sumeria is in anarchy. The Aztecs too. I renew the incense/wines deal with the Aztecs, for 14 gpt.

Turn 4 (1270 AD) The iron deal with the Zulu runs out and they have nothing to spare. So I again have to contact the Aztecs. We get some for 25 gpt.

Turn 5 (1275 AD) Sumeria and Aztecs are Fascists. The other two are still Democracy.

Turn 6 (1280 AD) We can't buy horses anymore. So I guess that we have to build cannons instead.

IT: Sumeria and Netherlands sign peace.

Turn 7 (1285 AD) I MA with the Dutch vs Sumeria. It did cost us coal and 22 gpt.

Turn 8 (1290 AD) The Zulu are in anarchy and losing this war. The Aztecs appear to be winning it.

IT: I see a Sumerian unit! And it is a tank :eek: It fails to kill a rifle.

Turn 9 (1295 AD) Immortal kills tank, no leader.

Turn 10 (1300 AD) We have the money to trade or steal. I believe that we need Replaceable parts above everything else. I have seen ONE Sumerian unit, a tank.
 
Just keep the dogpile going. Things are looking very difficult, but untiol now there no terrific gain of the Sumerians (except maybe vs the Zulu). I think that we should go on the offensive when we have artillery.

I have seen ONE Sumerian unit, a tank.
I see it, but not excited based on that news. I have never had to deal with this severe of a running AI before.
 
1300 AD (pre-turn)
I dial up the Netherlands and ship him coal to get horses and $50.

Any attempt to steal from another AI isn't worth it as we could loss the ability to keep them at war. I deal up the Aztecs and ship them $2,748 and $17/turn and get Electricity. I then see why the Zulu are the only one hurting. They are the only other civ lacking Replaceable parts.

(IT) One Sumerian tank commits suicide at Bactra.

The MPP with the Aztecs expires, and I let it. As long as they are fighting Sumeria we don't need it.


1315 AD
Well I see good news that the Netherlands have active infantry.

I just noticed we failed to sign trade Embargoes vs. Sumeria. If the AIs sign peace we still keep any luxuries from going to Sumeria so I sign them with the world.
(IT) GACK - The Zulu and Sumeria sign a peace treaty.

:eek: A Sumerian BOMBER attacks Bactra.

Again a Sumerian tank commits suicide at Bactra. I guess size 12, across a river and fortified is tougher then it seems.


1320 AD
I give the Zulu $115 for an MPP.

I finally get Gordium up to 20 shields / turns to speed up production.
(IT) As I hope the Zulu are back at war when the first Sumerian tank crosses our border.
The second tank actually kills a rifleman in Bactra.


1325 AD
:confused: I don't remember seeing a Netherlands and Sumerian peace treaty popup. I checked back and the WERE fighting in 1320. :confused:

The MPP is expensive at $27/turn with the Dutch, but the alliance was over twice the price!

I had to try, but out elite AC failed to kill the 1 hp tank. Our elite immortal does, but no leader. I have to try for a chance for a cavalry army.

We are now starting to suffer from WW. No luxuries are available, so I have to up the luxury rate to 10%.
(IT) The Netherlands are back in the fight.
The Netherlands and Zulu sign an MPP. :D


1330 AD
I kill another tank with an elite immortal, but once again no leader.

I sacrifice our last AC to pillage the connection between us and Agade.

The bad news is that is a replacement as our healthy army failed to kill a single infantry. I can usually kill a couple infantry with a cavalry army. :cry:


1340 AD
We clean up a 3 cavalry and 1 infantry landing behind our lines without loss.

WW goes up again and luxuries are to 20%.
(IT) The Sumerians land a single tank behind our lines that the Aztecs kill for us.


1345 AD
I buy furs from the Zulu for $11/turn.


1350 AD
I have no idea why Sumeria ignored our 2 explorers that went to pillage wines. I have them pillage 2 more squares.



Summary:
I performed a decent defensive war, but it still looks bad. Sumeria has over 50000 culture points gaining 588 / turn. They are clearly double everyone else.
Sumeria WINS a culture victory in 49 turns.

They also are at 42 / 43 toward domination.

I got us one step closer to infantry, but the Zulu won't get replaceable parts to lower the price. The Zulu are LOSING the war and need to build some infantry.

:wallbash: I have been in computer hell tonight and can't get civ to load the game. I tried 3 times and had it lock up each time.

Don't think it is just civ though. Had a hard time getting IE to run just so I could make this post.

I have had this problem before whenever I upgrade my virus protection from Norton. Anyone else have this problem before.

Anyway, I am delayed in my playing because of computer problems. I will give civ one more shot tonight and will post either a :( civs down skip post or turns tomorrow.

Hotrod: I don't know if it's the same, but I recently had some computer troubles too, where most programs I tried to start didn't run, including internet explorer and control panel. For me it turned out that the problem was a spyware program which had infiltrated my computer, called VX2.DLL. I managed to get rid of it, so if it's the same thing, then I might be able to help.
 
I was able to start the game but cannot play it tonight.

Got my computer issue sorted out finally.

If some one can go please skip if no one takes it I will definitely play tomorrow.
