Five take on the world revisited (5CCC - deity)

preturn: hire a scientist in Bactra to resume min on Sanitation. I don't know why it was shut down.

I look to see if we can capture the ToE city: it's in Bergen, a size-3 town! Apparently Sumeria rushed it with a SGL. However, Bergen can only be reached by sea I guess.

I am impressed by the number of wonders Sumeria has completed.

IBT We lose our explorers. Sumaria lands some cav and infantry in the west.

Bactra riots and I have to fix all other cities.

Sumaria starts Hoover.

(1)1355AD: Sumeria has TOW infantry!

We kill the landing and lose one cav.

I sign RoP with Aztecs.

I disband the cav army.

(2)1360AD: nothing.

IBT Sumerian tank kills rifle and redlines, and captures a worker stack, but we'll get them back next turn.

(3)1365AD: Kill Sumerian tank and get workers back.

Move a SoD to Bad-tibira.

(4)1370AD: ZZZ

IBT tank kills rifle and redlines.

(5)1375AD:

@Bad-Tibira: cannons bombard all infantry to 3hp.
vet cavalry 2/3 kills infantry.
vet cavalry 4/1 loses to infantry.
vet cavalry 4/1 loses to infantry and promotes it.
vet cavalry 1/3 kills infantry.
vet cavalry 3/0 retreats.
vet cavalry 3/0 retreats.
vet cavalry 4/0 loses.
vet cavalry 3/0 retreats.
vet cavalry 3/1 retreats.
vet cavalry 4/0 loses to tank and promotes it.
vet cavalry 4/0 loses to tank.
vet cavalry 4/2 loses to tank.
vet cavalry 4/1 loses to infantry and promotes it.
vet cavalry 3/1 retreats from infantry.
vet cavalry 4/0 promotes infantry.
vet cavalry 4/0 loses.
vet cavalry 3/1 retreats.
vet cavalry 2/4 kills infantry.
we probably lose another 4 cavs but finally raze Bad-Tibira.

It's very expensive, but we just don't have much else to do. At least it helps our income greatly. I start to build more cannons.

We have to raise lux to 30 and making -13gpt!

(6)1380AD: Not much. Bombard a tank.

IBT two rifles killed by tank.

(7)1385AD: movement.

(8)1390AD: movement.

(9)1395AD: our SoD is next to Agade.

Zulu is OCC now.

IBT: Big trouble. Sumeria moves more than 20 tanks into our territory.

(10)1400AD: I think we are doomed. Our SoD attacks anyways.

Cannon bombard Agade to 1 2hp infantry and 2 1hp TOW.
vet cav 2/2 kills infantry.
vet cav 4/1 loses to 2hp tank and promotes it.
vet cav 4/0 loses to tank.
vet cav 2/2 kills tank.
vet cav 0/1 kills TOW.
elite cav 5/0 loses to TOW.
vet cav 0/1 kills TOW and we raze the city.

Now what to do with those 20+ tanks? I lose a cav and kill a redlined tank, but that's about it.

I sign RoP with Netherlands to hope they can attack those tanks for us.

We still have MPP with Netherlands and Zulu for about 5 turns, but if Zulu is destroyed very quickly, and we move to block Netherlands/Sumeria border, maybe we can make peace with Sumeria and avoid MPP to be triggered. That's our only chance IMO.

I didn't move our SoD so next player can decide what to do. Cav attacking tank is basically not worth, but they might be able to move into city for a suicide defense.

Well, postponing our dogpile 20 turns was a big mistake, but we knew it when it happened. You showed great courage and got great results. Sadly enough Sumeria appears to be unimpressed. We are the obvious target now, since we don't have infantry.

I don't have a good suggestion at the moment. It appears that we will lose the SoD, which is a severe blow. We may HAVE to make peace in 4 turns, when the MA's expire. What's worse: somehow we missed the tech boat completely and now also trail the rest of the aI :(

Sumeria didn't attack our SoD during the interturn (there might be one TOW losing to our rifle). They are targetting our cities, which is far worse. With those 2-attack tanks, we can only stuff units in the city to hope they use up their attack points, but we may not have enough of them. The cavs in our SoD can still do this before they reach our cities.

I don't really see how we can still win this.

I think this game proved that you need to recognize the runaway civ early.

Even if you take away my trade mistake that delayed the attack 20 turns, I don't know if that would have been enough. I really think our FIRST war should have been Sumeria before even the Netherlands and the Aztecs. We should have started the dogpile then.

I think this game also proved an early resource screw over will kill you. Think how much different this game would have been if WE had our own iron and / or horses. My German 5CC had a nice block of luxuries to trade. If we just had one block of luxuries, it would have done us wonders for trading.

Finally get my computer sorted out and I get to take this :(.

Just kidding. Thanks for the understanding.

I will try and survive tomorrow.

Ah well, it looks like a loss, but it was very difficult without 5 cities early. Which teach us to forego granaries and stuff until we have those 5 cities planted :) With AI spawning like amoebas, there's simply no time to be fancy.

If or when we lose this I'm ready for a rematch :)

Gozpel, that's true. I'm all for a rematch, but this time please let someone else start (not for the granaries, but those marshes and jungles). :)

I don't mind jungle and marshes - plenty of potential coal, rubber, oil, etc. What I didn't like was the lack of trade goods. I would have liked 2 of anything to trade!

I hope you despise me less now: this was a case of 'in way over my head' - I am glad I withdrew in time not to ruin it when it still looked doable.

you guys put up a hell of a fight, and you still have a (tiny) fighting chance - WOW!!!!!!!

We may have a lot of rubber and oil, but we haven't even got the techs to use them.

Good point - what I was getting at was the severe lack of early trading goods. If we have a block of gems in the jungle, it would have looked a lot nicer. ;)

 I don't know where the "despise" came from. Disapointment in not playing a turn is a lot different that hatred.

You guys started off A LOT harder than the other 5cc (that I am in). We were fortunate to start off with gems, furs, iron, horses, and rubber. Oil 1 tile out of borders and a few luxes very close. You guys gave it a good try and you can't ask for anything more than that.

I never felt hated!

but your disappointment was voiced rather strongly (and I understand that).

Well my Websters defines despise as to regard with scorn or great dislike. Sometimes one word can mean a lot when we depend solely on the printed word...

Either way I consider this a closed, non-issue.
