[FIXED] Luxury Resource Trading

It works for me. In my attached savegame I can trade one of my two gold resources and the other remains available.

@wfsaxton: I can't reproduce the bug with your savegame and instructions - Ramesses says nothing could make the deal work...

Did you load the AFTER version?

It shows the resources gone.

Actually, I just tried my before and, like you, I couldn't reproduce it using my initial instructions. I did figure out how to reproduce it, though, and updated the instructions in the original post.

Moss, I don't think this is the same bug.

One bug trades resources that don't come back when the deal expires.

The other bug (sometimes) trades ALL of your luxury resources instead of a single resource when you initiate a trade.

If these are two different bugs, then it's my fault for the merge since I reported it. It's pretty clear, though, that resource trading is mightily broken. I'm looking at one of the save files posted above and am getting different results when loading the same file. I'll post about it later.

This bug has also just nuked me...

I went from a manageable 1-5 unhappiness to -22.... and lost all of my tradeable (essentially) resources... For a while I have been forced to trade 2 or 3 resources for 1...
I can confirm that the bug will eat 2 of your resources (instead of 1). I can not confirm if it eats all of a particular type of resource.

And I am in the middle of an overseas war in which my army now has a -33% combat modifier...
sigh....

I haven't experienced this myself, but over at Ars a moderator reported this:

http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?p=20850797#p20850797

"Ugh, seems the new patch introduced a new bug - if you try to trade 1 of a luxury to someone, it trades all of them. So if you try to trade 1 of your 2 Wine for Gems, as a simple example, you'll end up with 0 Wine and 1 Gems, resulting in a wash for happiness"

Has anyone with 1.0.0.20 experienced this? Can you post a savegame, screenshot, and steps to reproduce?

Can you please confirm whether you made a "what will you give me for this?" request? I believe that there was a bug in which that would actually put all your copies of a luxury resource on the table.

Patch version 1.0.0.20.

The game is now unplayable. I cannot trade resources to other countries because trading ONE resource ends up trading ALL of them.

Please fix. This game cannot be played in this state!

HOW TO REPRODUCE: In the BEFORE save, navigate to the ocean and move the caravel up and to the right 2-3 tiles and you will discover the Russians. Trade Catherine 1 Ivory for 1 Silver. This trade looks to behave properly.

THEN offer a trade with the Egyptians, ask them for both of their luxuries, they will ask you for the house. Accept.

You will then see your happiness decrease because they end up with all of your Gems, Ivory, and 1 other item (I forget and I logged out of the game ><)

I've reproduced wfsaxton's bug and found a few more (I think). I'm using his BEFORE save. When opening the save, I notice something that hasn't been mentioned before. When I roll my mouse pointer over the happiness icon at the top of the screen, I see that the following resources are generating happiness (See the first thumbnail below):

  • Whales
  • Pearls
  • Gems
  • Marble
  • Ivory
  • Dyes
  • Spices
  • Cotton
  • Wine

However, only Whales, Gems, Ivory, Spices and Wine are shown on the Trade screen as being available to trade. Is this a bug?

As stated in wfsaxton's post, I meet Cathy and and trade 1 Ivory for 1 Silver. Everything looks normal and my happiness increases by 5. I then contact Ramesses and he wants Whales, Gems, Ivory, Spices and Wine for Silk and Incense. I approve the trade. My happiness decreases from 116 to 101 and I (apparently) have no more Luxuries to trade (as shown on the Trade screen). I said "apparently" because I now recontact Cathy and I now have Cotton to trade. But if I recontact Ramesses, Cotton doesn't appear as a trade item. (Note: Cotton was there; I just overlooked it.)

I now exit the game and reload the BEFORE save file. This time I don't meet Cathy. Instead I contact Ramesses. Now he won't trade both Luxuries, but will trade just Silk for all my Luxuries (except Wine) and some Gold (See second thumbnail). I accept and now all my Luxuries except Wine are gone. However, when I go back to the main game screen, my happiness is unchanged and all the Luxuries that I traded still appear in the happiness mouseover (See third thumbnail). I played one more turn, but nothing changed (See fourth thumbnail). So the Luxuries don't appear in the Trade screen, but they still give me happiness. Something is seriously wrong!

ETA: I'm running version 1.0.0.20.

I think it needs to be pointed out that some luxury resources do not appear for trade if the trading partner has no need for them.

This is so you don't waste your time trading for resources you already have. Thus, the cotton being present with one civ versus a second civ is not an issue.

However, the issue of whether this occurs in all trades or only a subset of trades (when asking "what do you want") is still unresolved.

Can we get someone to confirm this and get it fixed?

This is a MAJOR bug in the game.

I got the bug where some of my luxuries just disappeared (never returned after a trade I suppose). It might be related to trading your last one, as I believe I did do that since I needed some serious cash during a war and not the happiness... I guess I can't do that again until it is fixed :(

I'll try to get this report moved back to the Confirmed forum. Just wanted to add some more information:

1. Regarding the opening post, I opened the save file and examined it. Absolutely it is consistent with the theory that the trade to Darius for Spices hasn't expired, even though it should have.

2. I edited my above post to eliminate some of the possible bugs. I didn't take into account that resources wouldn't be displayed in the trade screen if the other civ had them. Also, Cotton was available to trade to Cathy all along. I just hadn't noticed it.

3. ainwood asked whether the trade came from "What will you give me for this?" Actually, I tried several possibilities, including "What will you give me?", "What will you take?" and just manually placing the items on the table. All resulted in all the luxury resources being removed from the trade box.

4. I'd appreciate if someone could try to confirm my observation in my prior post that losing all the resources didn't decrease happiness under certain circumstances.

Yes, the bug in the initial post and the one you reported are different. I discovered at least one other bug related to luxury resources when examining your save files. This thread is now back in the Confirmed Bugs forum. We hope that will bring it to the attention of the Firaxis programmers. Should we be doing anything else?

Do you have the Firaxis developers' phone numbers? :)

Thanks for moving this to confirmed. I really hope this gets fixed soon...

I've also updated the description of this bug in the Bug List thread (item 36 in Confirmed bugs).

Sigh. Same happened here in my last two games. Both pretty much killed my game - it's an Immortal and sadly you need to wage a lot of warfare and take over your continent in order to have a chance to deal with the monster on the other continent.

When your resources are magically disappearing while you're defining your campaign like they're there (meaning "I can sell this to him, next turn I'll get two of my resources back so I can manage to puppet these two cities without tanking my happiness") - you're screwed.

It's still embarassing that despite abysmal AI I can't win, but basically the issue here is to compete with another continent's sole owner, while on my land the growth and production is stunted

P.S. It appears that if the AI you've lost your resources to thanks to that bug is conquered then you can get them back, so that's another option to somehow manage for the time being...

Bug confirmed here.

Traded one of each of three separate resources to another civ during peace negotiations. All of each of those resources disappeared after the trade even though in the resource list it says only one of each traded.

I am using the mod (not sure by who) which places a mouse over style list on the top bar of the ui, and that's where I'm getting my information.

As you can see from the screen shot, I have 3 sources of silver connected, but according to the list I have only one source and one traded. This just changed on the previous turn, after the aforementioned trade.

Thanks.

Did 20 turn trade with Babylon, gave 2 horses and he gave open borders and 2 gp/turn. when ended, I got 4 horses back, and 2 horses/turn thereafter (meaning 8, then 10, then 12, etc) . also keeps bringing up message that the deal has ended each turn (as well as any peace treaties that have ended). sorry, didn't have the save files.

That's a different bug.
