As someone still struggling for the first Deity win, I'll take any advantage I can get. Especially the first time around. After if I want a harder challenge i can handicap myself any way I want. But purposely playing from a position of ignorance?
Besides, don't we do much worse to each other IRL every single day and nobody says anything? Hell, people who do those sorts of things are the ones who wind up with all the money/power IRL!
Just on a minor philosophical note, I find it more than a little ironic how many of us will get their panties in a bunch over this issue in a game, then go out day in and day out and feed the Matrix.....

This reminds me of TMIT's comment in a thread some months back.... there was some AI developed who had a huge unit probability, traded pragmatically with everybody with no prejudices, cared jack squat about religion, and (as per the Art of War) only attacked when it had an overwhelming advantage. Which is also the way any non-noob human player would play most of the time when going for an early win. And even at moderate levels it was UNSTOPPABLE.
Chew on that one and it's implications IRL.
