Footy's back!!!:D St. Kilda has already won the NAB cup and it looks to be another close season. Who do think will be the contenders this year? Who'll be the big improvers? Who'll win the wooden spoon?

I have a vague interest in AFL. Just wondering what you experts think the Swans chances are?
The swans have a chance to make the finals but I don't think they have any realistic chance of winning it. They need to start rebuilding and develop a new playing style. The stop start flooding method just doesn't work anymore with teams like Geelong and Hawthorn who just run run run.

Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn and St Kilda are the genuine chances of winning a premiership this year. Brisbane, Fremantle, West Coast and Port Adelaide should round out the 8. 4 way race between Essendon, Carlton, Melbourne and Richmond for the spoon, although Richmond and Melbourne are most likely to be finishing down there.

No bias.:p Collingwood will finish 4-8. They relied too heavily on their now retired players, though they do have some up and coming talent. Essendon will not be bottom 4.:crazyeye: That has to be a joke. We'll finish 8-12. I think you overrate St. Kilda. Winning the NAB cup means nothing. In fact teams who've won the NAB Cup recently have duded out during the main season. The last team to do both was ESSENDON in 2000. :D

@ thelastone36: this is true footy. Not the soft, . .. .. .. .. . sport you play. :p

Buckley barely played last year, same with Clement, and Licuria was terrible. This was highlighted by the fact that Pendlebury and Cloke, 2nd and 3rd year players, topped the best and fairest. And who came within a goal of knocking Geelong out of the race for the premiership? Collingwood.

Essendon is not stronger than Sydney, Adelaide, Kangaroos or Western Bulldogs. The young players which Knights is going to have to play weren't used by Sheedy. I rate Essendon as 13th though, and they won't be far off the pace unlike Richmond.

St. Kilda have a strong midfield, 2 high quality ruckmen, and a reasonably strong defense. But the key point, is that they have, along with Geelong, Collingwood and Hawthorn, a forward line that is capable of kicking 100 points a game. Gehrig, Kozitschke, Reiwoldt, Milne with Gardner and King up there when not in the ruck makes for a lethal combination.

You relied on them in the finals. Collywobbles ring a bell?

We are better than Sydney. We beat Adelaide with just our young players, over there. Kanga are better than us atm. We'd beat Bulldogs; they are quite weak actually.

St. Kilda won't make top 4. I wouldn't even be surprised if they don't make finals at all.

NB. Fremantle is the most overrated side ever. Every year the so called experts pick them to finish in the top 4 and only once or twice have hey made finals, only to be knocked out in the first round.

Pendlebury, Clarke, Thomas, Cloke, Goldsack, H. Shaw. Those are the players we relied on for the whole year, including finals. Having Buckley and Clement then was a bonus.

We are better than Sydney.
Definately not.

NAB Cup doesn't matter IIRC :p

Maybe, but the Bulldogs will be able to beat top 8 sides something I doubt Essendon will be able to do.

Who do you suggest will then?

They've had the potential to do it for years. They just rely too heavily on Pavlich when things get hard, and even though he can often save them, he can't do it every week.

After round 1, I'm of the opinion Melbourne have a guaranteed wooden spoon. Also, Freo will finish no higher than 7th, with the Western Bulldogs or Adelaide to finish top 8 if they're lucky.
