Footy '08

Even though we are on top of the ladder, I don't think Geelong has hit it's straps yet; even against Essendon, there were a lot of easy misses and a little less of the polish of last year.

Still room for significant improvement.

You may be right but in the last 2 rounds they've met serious challenges from the Swans and Dockers, teams which (at least pre-season) everyone thought would slide. The Swans managed to frustrate Geelong for much of the match last week before they unfortunately ran out of steam and got buried, while the Dockers, amazingly, only lost by a point to the Cats and certainly could have won it. And the Cats haven't met the other unbeaten sides yet, the Hawks or Bulldogs, both of whom look great. So you never know, the Cats might not get two in a row.

Carn the Bloods!

Geelong is nowhere near playing its best. Only a couple of players are performing well each game, and that's just been enough to get them over the line. Hawthorn is really the only team which is playing to its potential, and even more worryingly, only Hawthorn and Melbourne have consistently played the best they can.

(now that I've said this, Hawthorn will lose and Melbourne will win )

I didn't see the game obviously, but I saw it described as the "best possible 42 point loss" on the Fairfax footy site.

However, would've, should've and could've all have one thing in common - they did not occur.

As said, Geelong haven't come even close to hitting their straps yet. I haven't argued or stated anything else. To be 6-0 and not have played particularly well is a distinct advantage for the rest of the season, though.

It was this time last year that they started to. Ottens, Egan, Rooke to come back in, and half a dozen others to hit their straps, along with a further half a dozen improving even further.

That said, there's a long way to go and I bet some of the other top teams haven't hit their straps yet either.

So, part way through the season. How's things looking? I'm pleased with the way the Swans are shaping up.

Top 7 are pretty much set, although the order may change around. North (if they keep doing what they're doing), Carlton (if they can be consistent), St Kilda (if they play the right brand of football) and Port (if they stop losing games in the last quarter) are fighting for 8th, and Melbourne, Essendon and Freo are fighting for the spoon.

Why not West Coast as a spoon chance?

Why not West Coast as a spoon chance?

They have been crippled by injury more than the other three, plus their forward line, mainly McKinley and Kennedy, has a lot of room for improvement with Cox, Priddis and Kerr delivering the ball. Freo just lays down in the mud in the last quarter, Essendon relies on the Lloyd and Lucas show to kick their entire score and Lloyd is way past his best while Lucas is simply over-rated, and Melbourne have no forward line, back line, ruckman or midfield.

Well, after last night, it looks like Essendon might not be all that reliant on L&L... still though their defence is really leaky.

The Dees will prolly win the spoon as at least with the other teams, there's the odd flash of brilliance whereas Melbourne are almost all-around crap. Sure, they're pretty competitive when they really lift their game (Hawks, Cats, Dockers) but boy, they're awful when they don't have any spirit (which is alarmingly often).

Who do you think will win the flag this year?

Essendon vs Westcoast
Essendon goals:Hille 3, Lucas 3, Neagle 3, Lloyd 2, and 1 each to; Laycock, Lovett-Murray, Monfries, Ramanauskas, Reimers - hardly Lloyd and Lucas kicking the "entire score".

Lloyd played most of the match up the ground and if you think "Lucas is simply over-rated" you've just announced that your knowledge of football would fit on the back of a postage stamp - as Forrest Gump says "stupid is as stupid does".

And unlike the miserable Scumbaggers last season, Essendon are not going to throw matches for draft picks.

Essendon defeated the Scumbaggers by 35 points. Goodness and light triumphed over evil and darkness - again! Hallelujah and praise the Lord!

That's actually more like Hussein's Iraq defeating revolutionary Iran... evil versus evil and it doesn't matter who wins.

Those that follow Essendon follow the one true religion - the rest will face their day of judgement.
And it looks like your mob just did at the hands of the COLLIWOBBLERS - shame, shame, shame!

Shush, bottom 8 scum, we'll get them next time. In a few weeks, we'll be chasing the flag, while you'll be running from the spoon. Carn the Swans!

Carlton and Essendon only wish they were evil, because they're jealous of Collingwood's unlimited supply of evil.

Collingwood are the comic relief - wait until you've got 16 premiership flags then talk to us about being evil.

The only thing the Swans will be chasing is the tail between their legs. Sydney are not in the same class as Geelong - then again no other team is. The Cats demolition of the Crows was clinical and on the Crows own dung hill - the Fat Lady is warming up.

And I'm suprised that Darkshade character hasn't been around talking up the Cats, must be busy doing experiments on helpless animals at the Daisey Hill Puppy Farm.
