For Phil, Evana, and Other Interested Players: Try this Game! ^_^

sometimes they are... sometimes they're not :D Lol, have to admit that i was totally screwed by the "raging barbs" setting, that made me quit. Will do another try now, with RAGING BARBS in mind. Btw, you're always talking about the chat, but when i'm in it you're never there 8[ I would've had some nice insults when i got owned by the barbs i could've shared...

Whenever I am there, you are not. Unless you are using a different name to throw me off, which won't be surprising. ^_^

I am sure all kinds of foul language was coming out of your mouth in frustration. But don't blame me. You guys were the one who told me my maps are super easy. ^_^

***runs and hiddes before something gets thrown my way***

It's ok, i'll try later with the barbs ;)
Just on Everquest for the evening now.

Oooooh... the ultimate challenge! I can't wait. Just don't hate me. ^_^

Ok, i have to admit that this map is maybe a little overkill :D

Spoiler :
You can get Great Wall which makes things alot easier, but even when you have great wall it's hard to get cities. Toku will declare almost for sure on you, although he hasn't done it yet i'm 99% certain he will because it seems that through my territory is the only way for him to break free. Monty already declared, that'd be no problem IF he wouldn't have brought Nappy in... although i didn't see any troops, that made me quit - but more for the reason that i did some horrible decisions that game, decisions that i knew were bad but still made 'em. Well, started a third try...

Once again, GW secured which gave me the space to build up some cottages+stuff. Once again, Toku became redfisty sooner than all the other AIs, the world erupted in a world war pretty early, and then Monty went WHEOOOHRN, too. Guess who is the target :D Well, i'm almost certain that i can wall off Toku and Monty this time, and i'm even in the tradegame trough Aestetics, but this time Ragnar chosed to settle a crappy spot in the tundra that ought to be my third city ~ missing out marble and silver will make it alot harder. On top, the only visible metal at the moment is far up in the north were i can't afford a city at all, connecting it will be simply impossible due to raging barbs. Maybe there's a spot somewhere in the west where you can grab iron, otherwise it's pretty much impossible to break out here. I'm pretty confident that you could beat Toku to the ground with metal+cats, he's very small and seems weak (and he has horse!!!), but without any strategic resource it's really tough.

Just took another look, you can get 4 pretty much decent cities even in my position, but one would be right on Montys border and therefore impossible to defend. To spice things up a little, Toku+Monty are Budists and Ragnar, who went redfisty too, is Hindu, so i can't switch into Budi before HR :D Wouldn't change anything anyway, Monty+Toku will declare whatever i'll do. Another update soon...

Ok, i think this map should be beatable, maybe not in the very first attempt because you really have to adjust your gameplay accordingly, but even first try should be possible if a really experienced player gets it on:

This is the situation: Iron far in the north. As you can see i have two (!) cities up to now, but have settler in position. Another city can be settled next to marble/fish, not too bad with two resources and alot of forrest. With 4 good cities and the obligatory 5th city for the iron, i think you can give Toku hell. He's very small with only 3 cities, i'm using my great spy i got to scout him out. Selfteching towards construction (trading is not too much fun ofc ;) ), will have to bring up another settler for iron...

Tokus force, should lose all of his units without any casulties on my side. Guerilla2/Drill1 Archers on a hill in a city behind walls, well, go figure... fighting inside my own borders with GW + IMP, maybe i'll even get close to a GG. Would be great for double promoted Catas, i rather save a supermedic for later.

Notice that the whole world is redfisty :D Nappy vs. Shaka, Julius vs. Alex, Ragnar + Monty up to declare on someone... guess it will be me, and if it is me i'm toast.

Techs, that's okay given my situation. I think i could run some sort of Espionage Economy later, but everything is useless if i'll get trippledeclared anyway, so we'll see how this plays out...

Ah, and i revolted into Budism, maybe that'll make it easier to get Monty out of war with me xx

Another edit: Hehe. Not too much spoilering in the following picture, you'll just see what nice friends you'll face at the map and why i'll have to retry once again :D

Toku declared, lost all of his troops (although he won some 10% battles ~~), then Monty declared, and now Ragnar joined the fun one turn later and has catas :) If he'd only come to suicide some of his swords @ my cap i could play on and smack Toku a little, but i don't think i can withstand catas.

Gwaja, come @ chat so i can yell at you...

And the last edit, at least for the "Raging Barbs" version:

Spoiler :
Nah, maybe it's beatable but it's way too luck dependant. You can get the GW in 9 out of 10 times judging from my games, and the single time i lost it was caused by a city missmanagement. The problem is: That won't help you :D You're free of barbs, but then you get single, double or tripple DoWs no matter what you do. It's not like you have a choice where to settle the cap, it has to be on a hill and you have to settle it ASAP so you have an archer when the barbs come in - avoiding borders with the warmongers with your cap is stupid.

Normally one'd argue that the barbs should hinder the AI aswell, but the map is so crowded that almost all of the barbs come from the northern region - and that's where you start, so you have to push towards the GW, otherwise you won't have any chance to stay competitive.

Have tried out several techpaths now, don't believe you can pull of both GW AND oracle without alot of luck, with GW early alpha is pretty much ruled out...

Well, i still believe it should be possible to beat the map when you're really lucky, but then again i don't like maps that depend on that much luck at all. Maybe i'll try the map without the raging barbs instead, that way you can oracle alpha and send monty out to beat up someone else hopefully...

Ahcos must love my maps. ^_^

When do you usually come into chatroom?

^We were both there yesterday and chatted about this map amongst other things. From what he told me i understand it's a pretty evil one also by my standards :goodjob:.

Hmm, usually i should be there by afternoon or in the evening ofc, that means somewhat around 1 am to evening in the US. I'll get in there now for an hour or so.

Yip, i got to 3 cities (stole a worker from Toku :D ), but stopped when 2 Barbarchers standing next to Ragnar's borders ignored him, and went straight for my 2 workers 3 tiles away. Was unable to get archer(s) to this place in time, i could have stopped the worker actions but somehow it is just too annoying when you cannot make some decent progress while surrounded by this crowd. Could be winnable with a LOT of luck and raging barbs, but it is soooo not enjoyable to play.

I have a feeling Dirk wants to try the "Doom of Mylene."

Just ask and I will make the next map of "Doom of **insert name here**" ^_^

^I may try it but....
Spoiler :

ahcos told me that it's at least possible to build GW, i don't know if i would have done that if hadn't known that this was doable on this map. Raging barbs screams build GW, Deity screams don't. Without GW it it must be extremely hard from what i've been told. Not a picknick with GW as well probably.

And i have to play that Snaaty Aw map and the weather's fine here etc....But i know where to find you if/when i feel the need to be humbled.

Dirk,

Spoiler :
There is also the NON-Raging Barbarian map which is more reasonable. But the AI surrounding you sure won't be reasonable.

I also gave the Raging Barbarian version a try myself. Building the Great Wall is doable, but the expansion takes a huge backseat and by that time, you will be boxed in yourself, while 2 other AI are also boxed in, and have to get through your land to expand... which means early DoW which is not pleasant.

I sometimes wonder if the Raging Barbarian option is totally biased against the human player... it seems the human player takes the brunt of the barbarian spawns.

Quite frankly though, I have so much respect for high level players here, including you of course, that no maps seem impossible to beat.

Spoiler :

Don't think so Raging barbs on deity just means a whole lotta barbs very early. I have seen deity ais destroyed by barbs with this setting on. They are severely hampered at least by them as well.

I think some maps are near impossible. We were discussing this in the toku thread, i think most randomly generated deity games are winnable as you can get to 6+ cities without being declared on. Also if you are declared on after say 1000 BC you can usually survive. And if you achieve 6+ cities you're a favorite to win. However if you're stuck with 3 cities and can't break out due to early dow as on that Toku map it's difficult as AZ pointed out, i would have love to prove him wrong :D but it's very hard.

And then there's AW deity and OCC deity now i have played AW on immortal but on deity at least for me that's uncharted territory.

Just for old times sake Gwaja, i did this to your boy Monty on the raging barbs setting

@Mylene

Spoiler :
You popped copper or what? I don't quite get the shots tbh...

Ahcos look where mine and his capital are ;)
It's just for fun, obviously you can only do that if you know this copper location from previous failed games :)

Still don't get it. You wandered down to that spot?! Or used WB?

I wandered down there, yep. I never use the WB, i knew from a previous game that i dragged out as long as possible while loosing, that Monty has copper down there.
I also knew he took his sweet time to settle the second city (for whatever reason), so that i can probably get there before he settles it.

He even irrigated the corn for me before borders poped ;)
And it's just a joke for Gwaja, that doesn't count as a real game ;)

OMG! You evil evil... bad bad... GAH!! You spent 5 turns to settle down there!!

I should have known from the Joao map that you would move your settler.. but I never thought you'd dare to move all the way down there! Pfft... but that won't save ya! The game is far from over... my Toku and my Raggie will soon cast doom upon you! Hehehe~~~!! ^_^

If i'd have to guess for your job, i'd say it has something to do with a whip, leather and "special" sexual preferences...

*grin* I must say...you take good care of us, making sure the maps are fairly balanced.
You could have picked other traits, not agressive for my Axis, but you are a good girl :)
