It is merely a few clicks to split the forum..I consider it a "why not?" They can always merge it back if it fails

Actually, no, it isn't. Perhaps it is only a few clicks to split the forum, but you would have to go through every single thread in it in order to sort it either as belonging to one or another of the children forums.

I'm not taking any sides here, I'm just pointing out a fact. There is no way to get around this problem. Merging two forums should be extremely easy, but splitting one? That's one hell of a work - it has to be 100% manual! Imagine. There are 3477 threads in Forum games. Imagine at least glancing through every one of them. Of course, I suppose you don't have to move threads created 5 years ago. If you want to do an incomplete work, you can do it. But it's certainly not an easy task, if you don't make such compromises.

There are 3477 threads in Forum games.

Actually there are only 264, and none from before June '08.

But I agree with you though: were this to happen, we shouldn't expect the mods to comb through every thread to find out what's spam and what isn't (well, officially it's all spam, but you know what I mean). Someone else would have to do it, but it might get a bit subjective.

Beugh... just start new threads in the newly created section.. easy peasy. You don't have to waste time moving anything. Moderators only have to keep and eye over what threads get opened then.

@Tuner: I don't like your attitude. You didn't have to lower the tone. As a mod you should set an example, and a good one at that.

~Your responses (as usual) are the brick wall approach. This forum and its rules don't have to be black and white. The forum evolves and so can the rules which guide it. This thread is in "Site Feedback" The users of this forum are exercising their rite to voice their opinion.

"Give us this, or else!"

Unless I am mistaken (possible) not a single person has demanded anything? Other than an answer to the question. You seem to have drifted off into fantasy land again.

IMO the request seems reasonable, and they have not had a conclusive responce. While hopefully there is discussion going on within the mod forum, it would be nice for you Thunder, Ain or Pad to shed a little light.

My personal angle of the argument is that these games have evolved to a considerable level of complexity and value to the site. If for example, H&J has a post count, so should these. They are many times more valuable posts. I also note that some games are incredibly spammy, and they should not get pc. Thus, split the games forum, so those who want to be creative and game can do so in a positive environment not drowning in spam.

Ainwood and Padma have already posted in the thread, you know.

Wow....really? My response was actually pretty good. And there's nothing wrong with the black and white approach. Sometimes there is grey, and sometimes there is nothing but black and white. Obviously the admins here have no interest in giving this. Otherwise they would have created the forum.

People here have a habit of not taking 'no' for an answer...hence the 'brick wall approach'. They keep going and going and try to wear TF down until he gives in. What a lot of people here fail to realize is that this is Thunderfall's house. He pays the bills here. Even ainwood and Padma aren't 'full' admins. They don't have the access that TF does. Sure, they can and do create stuff like other forums. But, and this is pure speculation on my part because I don't have access to the admins forums, I would assume that they're taking his lead on this. And even if they aren't, why is it so hard to understand that ainwood has a way that works for him and let him do it? Are you ainwood? Do you know what all he's doing here? Do you know why he's doing it this way? No, you're not, and no, you don't know. So let him be. He's doing what he feels is best. And since you don't know what exactly what's going on, you're going to have to trust his judgement that he's doing what he feels is best for the forum. Simply because you may think that there's an easier way, doesn't mean that it really is the easier way.

Oh wow.... I can't believe you don't understand hyperbole!

Sure, it seems reasonable. A $1500 tax rebate to all taxpayers seems reasonable to me too. But that doesn't mean that it's the best way to handle it. All you have to do is ask them for information, and if it's not provided you're going to have to accept that maybe they don't want to deal with it now, or can't deal with it now, or think it's a non-issue, or whatever.... I've been moderating for a long time, and I have no idea what's involved at the admin level.

And this paragraph above was all that was really needed to be said.....

TLDR...

Jokes!

Thats exactly whats happening here. They have asked.

I've "admin'd" before.. editing a forum to move folders around, create new once etc is an absolute doddle, i can assure you.

Nope, it isn't obvious. Perhaps they simply were not aware of the issue?

Thunder does listen. Thunder is yet to respond. No extra bills will occur due to the creation. Perhaps with time, more ad revenue would be generated.

Soo many questions! An loaded ones at that! I'll save time and ignore the majority.

I'll simply say, whats the harm in asking?

Ainwood has a way

Ainwood isn't the whole forum. He isn't every user. As much as we are guests in TF's house, there is no harm in suggesting how we think the place could be improved.

He's doing what he feels is best. And since you don't know what exactly what's going on, you're going to have to trust his judgement that he's doing what he feels is best for the forum. Simply because you may think that there's an easier way, doesn't mean that it really is the easier way.

If it isn't, would it be so hard as to explain why?

I have sounded my support for exactly that on several occasions.

All or nothing. Its the inconsistencies that irk me.

I really don't care about the postcount thing, but I think that Forum Games should be split. If you don't want to go through the hassle of separating threads that's fine; I volunteer myself for that job. NotW and Mafia would greatly benefit from getting away from all the clutter and spam games.

Here, I've already done it.

Spoiler :

While we're on the subject of forum splitting, I personally think that the Other Games forum should be totally reorganized like so:
  • Alpha Centauri - There is still enough activity here to warrant having its own subforum, and I acknowledge this.
  • Never Ending Stories - Plenty of traffic already to have its own subforum.
  • Forum Games - Does it really need to be a subforum of All Other Games? It gets more traffic than the Spore, Sid Meier's Railroads!, Galactic Civilizations II, Rise of Nations, Total War, and Chess subforums all combined. Surely that is justification enough for Forum Games to be a direct subforum of the Other Games forum.
    • Spam Games - Beat the Pic Above You, Good Wish Bad Wish, Name the City, etc. Postcount is disabled here, obviously.
    • Non-Spam Games - Mafia, Night of the Werewolves, Lazy NES. Postcount can be either enabled or disabled here, I couldn't care less. Enabling it would case my PC to skyrocket, which I'm not so sure I want, it's already high enough.
  • All Other Games - Combination of everything else currently in the Other Games forum.
Isn't that reasonable?
