Fourth Edition D&D

Its a bit to soon since 2.5 IMHO. I won't be getting it on release.

Many moons ago I used to DM AD&D first edition. (I had the original Dungeon Master's Guide too but then we had a house fire and everything went into storage and the DMG never came back so I had to get the 2nd edition version which was a bit lame by comparison).

I preferred Call of Cthulhu myself. More brainpower less kill everything. Ai! Yog-Sothoth! Cthulhu F'tagn!

they are at least releasing the core books one at a time so i will read players handbook and then know if i will further buy more of the books and use the system.

I love chick's informative articles. :)

Spoiler :
Dear Muslim friends, instead of worshipping a false moon god called Allah, you should worship the God of the Patriarchs, prophets, and apostles. This one true God is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Read the New Testament for it is the true Word of God. For further information on Islam and the Holy Trinity, contact:

I played 2nd a lot, then got out of it when TSR went down and picked up Palladium. I got all the headaches with less dice. A good trade

I've sat on my dads computer and watched the first two parts of the "unveiling" thing. Man those guys needed stage training.

As to fourth edition, meh. I like 3ed, or 3.5 whatever it's called now. I really like the art from the first two editions, especially the dragons. The pictures look too cartoonish and comic book.

I still play D&D with my dad running the adventure =) And really, all D&D has ever been is small scale war gaming

Personally, I'd play Legend of the Five Rings RPG over DnD any day.

I love the social and political aspects of playing that game. Courtier characters are quite interesting to play.

The best system around is "Par le Fer et par le Verbe", that could be roughly translated into "By the Sword and by the Word".

It's available here:

http://parleferetparleverbe.free.fr

Unfortunately, it's in French only at the moment.

BTW, it's the best system, because I designed it.

Nothing beats the Gold Box AD&D games (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds etc.), and they all used 2nd edition rules.

What good D&D computer game used 1st edition rules?
No way! Pool of Radiance was 1st edition! What was second edition in Pool of Radiance?

EDIT: Look at this:
Release date of 2nd edition: 1989: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_&_Dragons
Release date of Pool of Radiance: 1988: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Box

Ha! Stick that in your pipe and inhale it!

I thought it was the best because it was French.

If you're addressing me, I couldn't tell you. I never played 2nd edition, actually. I know very little about it except that there was a plethora of silly books.
I was just wondering about the computer games. For all this time I've had it in my head that the Gold Box games where 2ed, but now I'm wondering if the "Dark Sun" computer game was the first 2ed crpg. (It was published in 1993, the last Gold Box game in 1992).

"Dark Sun" was a (relatively) unsuccessful game campaign setting for AD&D.

It was a world with little metal so weapons where wooden, and the swollen sun made most of the world inhospitable; and the wizards either destroy plant life when using magic, or seek to help regrow the plants. I have never played the game with people, only on oldskool AD&D video games and stuff.

The video game "Dark Sun: Shattered Lands" was pretty cool actually. The setting was a bit odd, though.

Darksun is leading a poll over at the WoTC for a reprint and their community there is the 2nd most active one for old campaign settings behind Dragonlance.

Athas.org is also releasing rules for 3.5 for Darksun.
