Fragile Grasses

I'd most definitely be interested in playing this

My mistake, I accidentally thought that Tokugawa had possessed Edo during this time period. I'll be adjusting that part of my application and filling in the other sections.

After filling out those necessities, I would like you to write your first story.

So, do we write our first story now or you will tell us when we should post our first story?

I am extremely happy that kkmo is NESing again. He is a truly skilled student of Japanese history and I endorse this project and strongly recommend it to anyone.

I've just taken on a big role in spryllino's NES (I think he asked me first) so I don't want to overextend myself with two big historical NESes, (especially since I'm also contractually bound to join bombshoo's NES whenever it finally starts,) but I am quite interested in joining after an update or two if I have sufficient time.

The success of this project is also a success for NESing itself.

Good luck, kkmo!

Thanks for the kind words, Thlayli! I really enjoyed having you in the last Sengoku period NES, so I do sincerely hope you'll join this one.

I am honestly apprehensive about the way this is unfolding at this point. I'm not very happy with any of the applications/proposals thus far, except for that of Bair's. I attribute this less to any of your abilities, and more to me being extremely picky, as this is my area of study.

It might have been a mistake to make this a system in which players are minor clans. I'm almost thinking of turning this into a more traditional NES, with only 8 players. It might even be interesting to make it so we have 8 major players, and any players who join after that are given the roles of high-up retainers under major players.

Apologies for this potential shift.

D:

Please give this a little bit more time, kkmo. I'm sure that we can all help each other make these applications as beautiful and as fantastic as can be, so you can be happy with what we can put forwards. As weird as it sounds, I've really gotten attached to the _________ Clan, as well as the history I've put behind it, so I'd hate to see it go to waste. And I know I sound extremely selfish when I say this, but just give the current system a bit more time. I know I'd be willing to help with research. So please give this just a bit more time.

Oh, and if you could, could you send me a PM with some good books for research? Doesn't matter what language it's in, I just am curious to get as much information as I can.

To Bair: I'm sorry, but I don't see it being feasible. Even if I get a hold of all 12 or so players I need, there won't be much player-to-player interaction, because you will all be trying to grow in your own way within your own region. Sure, battles might put one player against another, but it won't be very involved.

The NES will not change much, in the way it works. And if you want to be a minor clan, you still can be.

An Addendum to Overall Concept
A call for 8 players...

I will accept applications via PM for the following eight positions (in order of how much I need them):
  • Oda Nobunaga / Oda Clan
  • Honganji Kennyo / Ikko-ikki (ChiefDesigner)
  • Mori Terumoto / Mori Clan
  • Uesugi Kenshin / Uesugi Clan
  • Takeda Katsuyori / Takeda Clan
  • Hojo Ujimasa / Hojo Clan
  • Tokugawa Ieyasau / Tokugawa Clan
  • Toyotomi Hideyoshi / Toyotomi Clan

Players from the last Sengoku NES will sort of have an upper hand in the application process, but I'm not seeing many of them around, so newcomers are of course welcome!

For newcomers generally, or people wanting to have a minor role in the NES, feel free to express your interest in playing one of these major daimyo's retainers.

As with the original concept of this NES, we will be focusing around the Ishiyama Honganji War, and generally Honshu. As the game expands and grows and moves on, we can certainly get into Kyushu, but that won't be for a while. I'd really like to center the NES around this conflict so that everyone is interacting with each other from the get-go.

And at this point, I am not changing the mechanics of the game very much, either. It will be pretty simple and bare bones, but still specific to the period. I'm going to emphasize actions made through diplomacy and posts in-thread, rather than orders. That being said, I realize that some clandestine activities require PMs. Anyway, we'll get into the details once I get these vital spots filled.

Definitely joining as Ikko Ikki. It will be nice to put my Shogun 2 game to work on making pictures to add to the stories.

1. ChiefDesigner is our resident Ikko-ikki player.

2. Call me crazy, but I much prefer the use and knowledge of actual Japanese works of art / historical treasures, rather than images from the Total War franchise.

1. I was under the impression that there could be more than one player per faction. If you have changed this then I will switch to Mori.

2. Call me crazy but whne players start to influence the course of history in the game there will be battles that didn't happen in history for Japanese artists to paint pictures of. If you are going to crack down on any pictures from Total war tell me now because I don't want to play with a mod that is that much of a hard*** about historical acuracy.

1. Please see the above posts to be informed on the changes to the NES. If you would like to apply to play as Mori Terumoto, please PM me a sample of your writing along with any pertinent information as to why you want to take that role. Some insight into your knowledge or interest (knowledge is not necessarily required) in Japanese history would also be a plus.

2. First, I don't generally enjoy posts or stories that are heavy on the images, unless they contribute directly to those posts or stories. Some people did it well in the last Sengoku NES I ran. Look there for examples. Second, you make it seem like players will be fighting battles that somehow resemble whatever you are doing in a computer game. Third, your first post in this thread indicates that you are joining a game so that you can use this game as a sort of "after action report". I fail to see how images of your Shogun game will, in any way, contribute in any meaningful way to this NES. Fourth, my comment is that if you must make your posts glittery, I'd prefer some sort of period-specific work. Doesn't have to be a picture of a battle. In fact, you seem to think all this NES is is battles, which would be another misinterpretation of the period. And fifth and finally, your implication that I'm a "hard***" is not the best way to get off on the right foot with me.

If you want a Total War Shogun NES, then make a Total War Shogun NES. That is not what this is. That would be like asking an historian of the Roman Empire to make a NES based on Caesar II (yes, I'm that old, and it's the best I can do). Maybe, asking the programmer of a satellite to program a DOS application? I'm clearly not doing well with analogies right now. :p

Well thanks for explaining it for me. Heavy historical accuracy to the point that you are demanding is not my idea of fun at all so I'll just sit this game out.

It might help some of the players if you gave a good sample application, kkmo. Not necessarily for imitation, but to give them an idea of what kind of approach they should take.

Alternatively, if you need more players but you aren't satisfied, you can guide people more directly through the character creation process, by, for example, giving them more set options to choose from in creating their backgrounds.

The flowers are not here yet
Where could they all be?

Ugh I'm bad at Japanese. I should really take more initiative in learning it.

This looks interesting. I am interested in the Hojo, but worry that the story writing might take longer than traditional orders. My RL work schedule can be very heavy at times and i have several very important projects underway.

I will take a look at the application requirements tonight, but mark me down as a strong, but not quite definite yet applicant for Hojo.

Had interest in joining this. Lost it with the changes, I'm afraid. :(

Even then my application from me would only encourage you to go forward with these changes. :p
