Zoroastrianism was still the prevailing religion on the Iranian plateau many centuries after Alexander (indeed it was not until after the Muslim conquests, almost a full thousand years after Alexander, that it died out in Iran and the surrounding area). This is not a good analogy at all.
But that was my point. The local population was not replaced. The local ruling elites were hellenized quickly. But not entirely, or even for the most part, replaced. the people modified its culture only slowly. And then synthetically.

For the sake of thus thread asume the Aztecs survived and industrialized to now.

They continue their practice of human sacrifice. They do not however invade other countries they sacrifice their own. Perhaps they control Mexico but the regions exist to feed the capital blood sacrifices.

Would it be right to invade them and essentially destroy their culture to stop the sacrifices?

Where do you draw the line as the international community?
I think the important question here is what would Captain Kirk do?

Hmm hmm

Heh no one invaded Khmer Rouge and they were worse than Aztecs.

Well Vietnam eventually did not sure if it was for humanitarian reasons and for once Commies were an improvement over who they invaded.
IRC the Khmer Rouge started genociding the Vietnamese minority in their country and the government of Vietnam didn't take too kindly to that. So technically it was for humanitarian reasons. Even if those boiled down to "it's fine if you kill your own people but stop killing ours".

Khmer Rouge actually attacked Vietnam directly. They started occupying Vietnamese territory one month after they took Phnom Penh. Vietnam finally invaded after years of the Khmer Rouge negotiating in bad faith, skirmishing at the border, and yes genociding of the Vietnamese minority in Cambodia, and only after getting security guarantees from the Soviet Union in case China retaliated (which they did)
