Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I'm quite certain that they do indeed see who sent the report. (However, I can't be certain)

:hmm: Ok - so if i start to report 1000 ppl they would know and get pissed, right ? (not that i ever wanted to do that:mischief:)

So i should be carefull with reporting when my sense of righteousness is overwhelming :D ... kuz that might come back to haunt me later. :scared:

Another question:
How do i rate a thread ?

Not all forums can have their threads be rated. If you are in a forum that is 'rateable' though, you can just select the rating menu from the thread view and give it a vote. Be aware though, that the stars for the thread won't appear on the main forum page until a few more people have voted (I think it requires 2 or 3 votes).

Yea, but what makes a thread vote-able. I wanted to vote some great mods for civ3 (like i saw in the civ4 forum) but not one was rate-able.

You can't rate any threads in the Civ III C & C section, but threads in say Civ III Stories & Tales can be rated. It's a setting in the different forum sections in where you can either rate threads or you can't. And a regular user can't change that setting. (Or that's how I've come to realize it)

Same here, it is very wierd that Mods (in the civ3 forum) have NO RATING... i mean how else should a noob decide on what mods to dl ?
That is probably the reason why there are so many "Which mods should i dl ?" threads. I think rating mods is a LOT more important then rating stories.
I mean ppl join the forum to talk about the mods (at first) not to read stories...

There's a reason for that. People were creating multiple accounts to rate some mods higher, and others lower. It wasn't accurately reflecting how popular (or not) a mod was. So it was disabled for that particular forum.

Yes but IIRC you can't have multiple accounts per IP, right ? So it could be reenabled, right ? :D

No, it's possible to have multiple accounts per IP. We don't necessarily match up IP addresses against user accounts. We can, and do, when necessary tho.

Take for instance where I work. My IP there always shows up the same, no matter what computer I use at work. And we have about 300 there, not counting servers. So if there was another Civ player there who wanted an account, the IP address wouldn't stop them.

You could suggest that it be renabled with a new thread here in SF, it can't hurt to try.
I could, but i thought you could only have a user per IP. In the way it is now, there are a few ppl in the Civ3 forum that i bet will make lots of users to screw the ratings...
So i am letting go of this idea... for now.
