I don't know where else to ask but is there a thread that will tell me how to switch a *.bic to a *.bix?

Load it in with the PTW editor. When you do a 'Save As,' you should be able to convert it over to PTW.

Hmm. .. .have to check on this, tho.

Edit: Yes, it looks like this is the way to go.

Load the PTW editor, load the .Bic file, and do a 'File/Save As...' and make sure you change the file type to .bix. I pulled an old map in from Civ3, and it does appear to work for translating the file.

Allright I'll give it a shot. Thanks a lot!

Bon,
I bought the french version game. And there is a bug: the samourai units doesn't
work:cry: javascript:smilie('')
It is possible to just download the unit file?:help:

Since Beserks replace Longbowman, and you can upgrade bowmen to longbowmen, can you upgrade bowmen to beserks?

Hi,

I am re-installing the game from scratch.
My version is EU English, for vanilla Civ III and PTW both.

[1] When I only want to run PTW does it matter whether I have the latest vanilla patch installed?
[2] Does the 1.29 vanilla patch for US English also work for EU English and if not, where can I find the latest EU English patch?
[3] Does the 1.27 PTW patch for EU English really work now? I read there were a lot of problems, and Firaxis doesn't list this patch at all.

Regards,

Ribannah

[1] I believe the answer is no. You can run PTW with any vanilla version. Installing PTW may have patched your vanilla civ to 1.29 (this may answer the next question as well).
[2] I don't know the answer to that, since I can't find an EU English version. Your best bet would be to download from www.uk.infogrames.com. It seems to me that the US and UK English versions are the same from the filename at that site.
[3] I have no idea since I'm US English. Getting the US version is the safest way to go when buying a US game, so I try to get the US version any time I can.

OK, installed vanilla 1.29 and then PTW US 1.27, and

IT DOES NOT WORK.

That is, it seems to, and it works for a while, but at some point first the animations and screens slow down to hick-ups, and then functions and texts begin to disappear (can't even save the game anymore).

So that's it for me. I may be back when Civ 4 arrives.

Ribannah,

Did you install your vanilla Civ3 and PTW into the same directory? In that case, it may not work. I installed PTW in another directory (not the vanilla Civ3 directory) and both versions are working perfectly fine. Please note that a different directory could be another sub directory inside the Civ3 directory.

I have installed PTW in the default directory which is a subdirectory of the vanilla Civ3 directory.

Before that I tried installing it elsewhere and that was worse. The game kept self-exiting to the desktop.

Yes, that is the correct way of doing it.

Then it must be something else. Would you try it again with PTW patch 1.21 to see if it works? I haven't installed patch 1.27 yet; therefore, I don't know about that one, but patch 1.21 has been working perfectly without any problem whatsoever on my computer at work and at home.

Did you download a version clearly labeled US on the site you downloaded from, or did you download from www.uk.infogrames.com? If you downloaded 1.27 from the latter and it did not work then the site has some serious explaining to do. Why post a US only patch in the British division?

That's the one I downloaded.

While they don't CLAIM it is a EU English version, one would expect it to be, this being a UK site, but it's really the US patch which you can see when you click on 'properties' (| version | language) after downloading.

Very misleading indeed.

You should write them an email about your problem and if there is anything they/you can do to fix it. After all, that is a site for British customers, and anything they post there should be compatible with the EU English version of the game.

hi, just a couple of questions...

Firstly, is there a score bonus for winning the game, or being an ally of a civilization that wins?

Secondly, is there a penalty for changing the tech advance while it is still in progress?

thx

Tom - This kind of question is better suited for the quick answers thread, which is also stickied at the top of the Civ3 GD forum page.

I am unaware of any bonus for winning the game, however there could be. I don't think there is one for being an ally of the game winner. I don't think the program recognizes that.

And yes, if you change production of a tech advance while researching it, you loose all your science already spent on it. There is no 'prebuild' for the tech advances, or changing production over to it like you would for a wonder or improvement.
