Friday's PAX talk (with overview)

Yeah, I did too. But it was about a year and a half ago. I've gotten my money's worth out of Spain.

Austria with Maria Theresa

And yet another new female leader with inclusion of Maria Theresa - great - a pleasant surprise! Looks like 50/50 (Spain/Isabella) equal distribution with male/female leaders in G&K :)

Sorry, if this has been discussed somewhere here already but could not find about it, I take there isn't any info yet about Austrian uniques (beside ability) ?

And: She is *not* so super sexy as all the other female learders. Better looking than she was in reality, for sure. But not so much a puberty teenager's dream...

I like this touch of realism. (Not that I don't like to look at handsom people when playing a computer game. Male or female.)

So with one of the Hun's abilities being raze cities twice as fast, this has me wondering on how to actually use this. I know that this aspect is probably a more ancillary focus, but I feel I know how to use the important ones.

In general what is the strategy on razing cities? Can some expert players offer some tips on when to razed cities and when not to? I literally almost never do it,but wonder if Im missing out.

Heh, true :)

I haven't seen concept nor in-game art of Theodora yet, is she as "foxy" as the rest? ;)

There's plenty of cities without luxuries, wonders or with duplicate luxuries you don't really need. Those are best razed. The huns will be more inclined to raze in such situations, and thus more inclined to keep on conquering.

I just raize every now and then, mainly if the conquered cities have no happiness buildings and the global happiness would drop too far.

But then, this is a posibility to roleplay a little bit and try an usually *not* followed strategy.
I usually don't pillage very much - if I play as Vikings, I do.
So, I am pretty sure: When I will play as the Huns, scorched earth will mark my path...

She will probably be attractive (both because she was in real life and because she's more youthful). There's a tiny little painted version of her in the demo on the diplo screen, but it doesn't tell you much.

Is it possible to post screencap of that? I'm at work and no chance to view the streams atm. :)

Yeah sure, but the quality is terrible

Thanks. :goodjob:

I was just shortening it so people wouldn't have to scroll past three paragraphs every time someone quotes it.

Sort of related to this topic, but in the completely opposite direction. I know almost nothing about either Austria or Ethiopia. Part of what I like about Civ is learning about civilizations I never knew existed. Could I bother some of the more historically savvy people to post some interesting info on these two? I know I could use wikipedia, but this would share it with the whole civ community and help dispel views like the above mentioned.

Hadn't heard that, thanks for the info.

Sorry, edited my post before you edited yours but before you responded. See above. Also, already provided my opinion about the Zulus. Just more well known to people like me and more bad-ass and all. Like I said, Hungary is the worst of the offenders and I really still don't think I'm wrong in assuming that they're not as cool to play against as England, Rome, etc. And I still don't want them bumping those civs out of my game since I like to play against random AI civs. But apparently i'm the only person who plays this game who "gets his history from commercials" so what freaking ever, enjoy Austria >.>

Hungary as the worst offender? Are you referring to the Huns as unworthy to compete with England and Rome? While the Huns did not officially conquer Rome, many historians argue that they dealt them the death blow, which allowed them to limp along until Rome was officially conquered by an unremembered barbarian group.

Unremembered? The Ostrogoths?
There's also the Vandals, where we get the modern words vandal and vandalism.
Also, not everyone agrees that outside force was the death blow of the empire.

All this being said, while I'm indifferent to the Huns, they strike me as essentially what the Barbarians are supposed to represent - a destructive force that comes in and destroys a civilization.

Was it the Visigoths or the Ostragoths who gave us dyed black hair, studded black clothing, death metal, and excessive eyeshadow? :p
