Friday's PAX talk (with overview)

It would be interesting to know whether Carthage's ability goes for military units as well. If that is the case, and as Carthage I can put military units on mountains in a siege on a city, than that would give me a huge military advantage in some situations.

Most posters here assume the ability to pass mountains is just about gaining access, like for a scout or worker, but if the ability extends to military as well...
Do we have any more info about the true nature of this trait?

So enemy units would not be able to engage armies on mountains? And ranged units can just volley from mountain tops? Seems broken if that were the case.

Greg asked a question about the details of combat, and how strength is changed. But the stream collapsed. ;(

The "Great War Era" is not named "Great War Era", but they did not sy the real name. Maybe it means it is not a separate era.

I thought this thread was about the info from PAX and the other one about the stream and timeline itself. :p
Edit: I will move. ;)

I wouldn't rule it out. Currently embarked units can also not be engaged in combat, but they're still vulnerable to city bombard.
Carthage's ranged units on mountains (if they can be positioned there) would also be vulnerable to city bombard and ranged attacks from units. And the use would be situational, of course, some landscapes hardly have mountains.

Since almost every unique ability is very strong, it would fit in better if Carthage's ability turned out to be like this. To me it would seem too weak if it was just a scout or worker who could ignore the mountain restriction.

Yeah, remember back in pre-release when Greg streamed a demo playing against France? Some of us commented that Napoleon should've attempted a much easier naval invasion instead of going the long way around by land (it was into the modern era, I believe). Greg said, after being pestered about it, that they had and failed. To this day, I believed they had not ever attempted to do so and they knew that it was a glaring weakness.

Well, no. It's pretty clear what they had done. They moved on all tiles, including the water ones and had lost. The AI did in fact do that.

Yeah, but say there's three merchantile, one with Porcelain and two with Jewellery. If I'm allied with one, and I'm getting Jewellery, and then someone else is allied with the other CS giving Jewellery, how is it unique?

What's been suggested is that the uniqueness of the resource lies within the manner with which it is acquired, rather than in it's quantity.

For example, one can acquire gold in three ways - mine it, trade it, or buy it from a city state.

With jewlery, one could only buy it from a city state, and only a specific type of city state.

It is therefore unique in that it is only attainable in one way. That's the theory anyway.

- Secondly, even if you are allied with two M'CSs with the same "unique" ressource, just trade it away! Probably nobody else will have this ressource to trade with, so you will have no problems finding a trading partner!

You can only trade resources in your own borders, not those given to you by the CS's.

Also Spain is included?! That makes me angry that I brought the DLC.

I'm with you on this one, not super happy about Spain inclusion for thsoe who already purchased, damn it. why did it have to be a double pack. But there's nothing you can do about it and I'm already scarred for life the last time I voiced my view on that.

Who knows, maybe 2k plans on giving a discount or a free Civ for those who already own Spain.

Just a problem with that...

I doubt they will give anything free because what about people like me who bought Spain + Inca at 75% off. If we got a "free civ" I would (and others) would be getting an epic deal!

I dunno.. was just brainstorming. not to keen on talking about that again, like I said, I'm scarred for life the last time I voiced my opinion.
