Full Monty

CG2 archers are better than vultures at defending for chariots and axes. Vultures are really only better against spears, which is a pretty marginal difference anyways. I guess vultures are better against elephants but that's an uphill battle.

Good point about the iron. We don't have iron right now but I still think it's safer to connect the southern one as back-up. I will change the northern worker heading south to mine for a turn on the way down.

With gems + gold online, we will be positive. I want to grow Uruk to max size before hiring the scientists. I won't whip Eridu - I'll just juggle tiles with Uruk.

I can send a vulture out to scout east but it'll take forever with a one move unit. Is it really worth it?

I'll wait a few more hours before playing.

Well you can use Monty's roads...

Do we have anything close to "consensus" on tech part?

positive at zero.. does not that mean researching at one beaker per turn ratio?

Bactrian almost surely has horses in its BFC - I don't see what else that blank patch in jungle could be. So AH would enable two good tiles - grass horses and grass cows. If we're going to tech AH, we should get hunting both for spears (elephants + HA) and for the discount. So I really don't see any reason to NOT tech hunting--AH here.

Aesthetics probably won't net us much here anyways. I think alphabet would be better.

Agree with your plan shy. Hunting, AH is ok by me. I keep my fingers crossed for some luck - we could use it ;)

:thumbsdown:Headdesk.

Even if we have horses that just 1,5-2 tiles. none of them giving good comerce, but basically hameers.

To get these you delay other techs by 10-12 turns. See no point in arguing further on as we clearly see diferent things.

p.s. Alpha is probably rather bad tech to pursue, ofcourse without proper test save [without knowing monty's land] it is guess work anyway

 So I started playing and cancelled a worker action and hit enter. Then:

I stopped as we may need to change the plan. He's either plotting against us (small chance), against green (moderate chance), or got dragged into a war with a Monty we haven't met yet (totally random chance). He has -1 close borders with green and no borders with us. I *think* that means he's going after green but it's hard to tell.

Here's power:

And demo:

It's pretty clear that Indigo has #1 power on the map right now so anybody is a possible victim. Thoughts?

edit: incidentally, Kish's borders popped forcing green's settler party to head back :woohoo:

if that settler is screenshots lower corner i would be concerned it does something very stupid once barb city comes out of revolt...

Can't we revolt into something to help make his path clear?

p.s. most likely indigo is after green but you never know.

I think we have to assume indigo is after green. The question is do we want to try dogpiling to grab the gems city from green?

I think the green settler party is heading back because it doesn't think that land is worth settling now. Hard to guess though. It'll just go around the barb city on its way back once the barb city comes out of revolt. There's a one tile gap that will be open for another 5 turns anyways so it's not really an issue.

That's my instinct.

What are the options for just-in-case? We skip AH in favour of defensive techs?

Other options are straight masonry or hunting--archery. Really the big question is if we want to pick up masonry before hunting--archery (or ignore and go hunting--AH). With walls pre-construction, Monty can't hurt us.

Great set, shyuhe :goodjob:

I don't think we should let this change our plans for the current set. Snagging gems city from greenie would be great and we have some vultures nearby, ready to strike due to our roads. It would be great to know how his defences in this city are, OBs would make this decision much easier. For now, I think we should continue with hunting > AH though you can still run 0% if you like, for safety (if he DOWs us for example) but I don't think this is necessary. Needless to say you should stop as soon as there is any DOW. Don't think the current situation requires a concrete change of plan.

I'd be ok with Masonry before anything else. It's the most immediately useful considering our economic situation. Then: Hunting - AH or Archery. We could also just stick with the plan, though.

I'd tend to agree we aren't targeted here, simply from the fact that we aren't a land target and that makes it that much more unlikely.

Best thing is to OB and send a unit check double-gem city [for sniping purposes] and closest Indigo cities.

Ok, so we got a lucky break.

The gem city is fairly well defended though:

Civ4ScreenShot0610.jpg

There's an axe/chariot/chariot 1S and a jag 1SE, and an archer 1NW. We have.... maybe 4 vultures we can send to the front :(

Gold and gems are online now so Uruk can really grow - I've hired two scientists though so that we can finish archery (city garrison stuff) before going full production. Our economy is barely break-even at 10% working both gold and gems, so I think it's worth taking a grab at the gems city if possible (it'd basically double our economy). Of course we have to muster the units for it first. Also, I'd build a sacrificial settler that we can gift to buy peace after we get what we need.

We have good cities - just need double the workers to improve it while sniping cities from green  Not sure where we'll get all those hammers.

Roster stuff:

shyuhe
mystyfly - UP
bbp (on deck)
kossin
soirana
Silu (lurking)
