[FULL] Putmalk's Ancient World Discussion Thread

I need help. How do I go about opening a Gamedata XML fie in modbuddy? I followed dales explanation ,yet , I see no Project menu that once clicked would bring up a list of file formats. Realy need that direction so that I can start modding. I have time.

Hi THE ONLY,

Please start a new thread in the main C&C forums. I would rather not have my thread derailed with modbuddy questions.

Thanks and good luck. :)

Not one of the links did work. Could you upload it again? Thx!

(Well, the scenario link did. The base mod did not.)

Yes, I'm sorry. Those sites really don't like the mod for some reason.

I guess a less custom art version is in the works soon. Until then, I'm sorry for all the hassle in trying to download.

I won't reupload yet, however. I see no use in continually doing the same thing over and over. I guess expect a new version...soon. Until then, I'm not going to keep uploading stuff just for it to get taken down.

Just a brief little update.

I'm prepping the early release of Version 6. I will be uploading to these forums.

Part of my personal learning process:

My arts folder was massive (150 MB uncompressed). So I'm going through it now to reduce as much as I can (useless atlases, unused graphics, etc). Then, I'm most likely going to release the arts pack seperately. You'll download the .civ5mod file which should be small (LUA/XML doesn't cover much) then install that, then download the art pack and throw it into the mod folder. That's the current plan right now. I'm just going over it and making sure everything works before I release anything buggy.

Apologies for the wait, and for all the inconvenience. It really is all my fault.

EDIT: Just finished art compression. My art files now total 25 MB, down from 150 MB. Maybe I can put into a civ5mod file and be less than 10 MB.

Mod is fully functional in game after I just had to completely rebuild it (long story, not worth explaining...). My .civ5mod file is now 8.2 MB, which should allow me to upload it to these serves. I look forward to getting this mod playable without it getting pulled....

It's almost ready.

Version 6 is released. It's an attachment on civfanatics.com, therefore it should be stable.

Please enjoy. :) I wanted more for version 6 but this step was necessary. Update to Mesopotamia as well, check it out!

The game crashes during installation (step 6 of your installation guide) at the point when it comes to file 100 from 111. I downloaded the mod again and it didn't work either.

Quick question before I start debug, do you have any other version installed?

Does this problem occur with other computers?

Pretty stable on my machine, but I've had this problem before and it's usually fixed by simply making a new mod with the same name and copying the files over. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the report, popped it in Known Issues.

I don't have access to other computers.

In my haste I typed out the wrong question.

I meant to ask if the same problem exists for other users trying to install.

When I get home I'll run some tests and try to debug the issue. If I can't replicate the issue, however, I can't really debug anything. D:

I have successfully replicated the crash on my brother's computer.

I don't know why I didn't test this out, I'm a noob and just forgot.

I'll get to work on it.

EDIT: Problem fixed! Uploading the patch now!

The problem was a blank Game_Speeds.xml file. If any blank files exist in a mod, the game can't install it.

Okay the patch is uploaded.

I apologize for all my "double and triple posts" but this is just to bump the thread up, which editing doesn't do. I do it so that people know when I actually update my files. So I apologize in advance, but I believe it is necessary.

My next step now is to take a breather from the modding aspects and to actually play my creation. I want to work on a Mesopotamia Story which will hopefully get more people aware of the mod plus provide screenshots and gameplay. Until then, the mod should be available and installable for the foreseeable future!

Thank you for all continued support! I REALLY appreciate it!

EDIT: Took the mod down very briefly. Be back up in about 15 minutes.

EDIT #2: It's back up. The icon atlas failing problem is fixed.

Thank you SO much. It works. I'll look into it soon!

You're welcome! I hope you enjoy, thank you for your interest!

I really don't like making you guys wait for fixes. Especially after I disappeared for two months.

Here are my first previews for the fortress (made an ancient one, so it fits in the time) and the ishtar gate. Made in Civ 5 style. Hope you like it.
