Hey sorry for the inconvenience, I appreciate the help/ I'm playing beyond the sword on my mac and whenever I start a game it freezes as it is finishing creating the new world.

I can open up all the option menus to start a game, but can't actually play it. Also if I start it in windowed mode it won't crash, but I hate my game like that ha because I can't scroll around on the map, and the entire games isn't featured in the window.

Has anyone had or can help me with my issue. I simply can't play this game in full screen mode..

Once again all advice is appreciated

I can't help you with your issue (not a Mac user). However, there is a CIV IV Mac Forum here for Mac related issues.

I would like to mention though that you can move the screen around quite easily in Windowed mode by clicking on the Mini-Map. You can click to move the screen or click (or right click) and hold to move it around. It actually becomes quite easy and almost preferable once you get used to it.

Still, your full screen issues may be a problem regardless. Sound like you might have hardware issues.

I use a Mac. I play exclusively in full screen mode with no problem. What Mac model and GPU are you using? Which OSX? Are you using any mods? Although I am happy to help here, if I can, as Lymond says you will get more Mac users seeing your query in the Mac Forum.

zroberts: it's probably a limitation of your graphics card. it could be the software if you are playing a windows version. if you have a really old machine, like pre-intel, then i don't think it will work at all.

Although I am now using an intel Mac, I ran CIV with BTS for a few years on a PPC G4 under Tiger. So, pre-intel is not an issue, other than being a tad bit slow and grinding to a halt with large maps in the late game.

hmmm. i ground a powermac G4 sawtooth to a halt on civ3. i think i tried civ4 once, it wasn't fruitful. i'm going to advise anybody who wants to play computers upgrade to at least a core 2 duo.

anyways, we're talking about what? zroberts didn't list his hardware. n00bs;p

It depends on how old the PPC G4 model is. A PowerMac is an old machine with a much slower bus than the 2006 Mac Mini that I was using. Also, the Mini had a state of the art Nvidia graphics card in it.

My old Sawtooth couldn't handle Civ4 at all. Civ3 was OK as far as I recall. Even my current Mac - a first generation MacPro - struggled with Civ4 until I upgraded it from the stock card to an nVidia 8800GT graphics card.
