future tech

Well, in Civ2, future techs were the techs you researched once the entire tech tree was complete. All they did was add points to your overall score.

In Civ3, there is no future tech. There are only the Modern Era techs, at least from my experiences. I've only played once or twice to the point I'd researched all the techs and the games ended soon after.

There are future techs and they do add to your score, albeit very little and they come sooooo late that they're really not worth research; you'd be better off shutting down your science research and focusing on income and, if necessary, happiness.

That's true. By the time you reahce those tech you've past the stage at which they could have made a signeficant difference in score.

Just happiness. Income adds nothing to your score. Happy faces, content faces, specialists and territory are the only contributor to Firaxis score as far as I know (apart from future tech).

You're right, AlanH. I should've made the distinction that income does not affect the score, but that income overall is good to have in the game.

For a milked game, I guess once you are maxed out on territory (1 tile under domination), you have all the citizens you can fit into the space and your lux tax is producing 100% happy face, you might as well put the remainder of your income into science and research future tech. There's no other way to increase scoring rate at that point.

By time you get to future tech, you should maybe research one or so, then snap science research to entertainment. You'll get a lot of popularity with your people :-)
