Mexico is considered North America where the Aztecs are located. The Maya were also located in eastern Mexico but also in Guatemala, Belize and Honduras which is considered Central America, a subcontinent but still part of North America as well.
Of course you probably meant they were both located in Mesoamerica which would be indeed accurate.

I thought everyone considered Central America to begin at the Rio Grande. I do, at least. It's the Latin portion of the North American continent.

One hiring notice that I saw over the summer was for a freelance digital artist specializing in real-time hair. I don't think that was for the console ports.

Which new leader is this confirmation of ? Boris Johnson? I'm surprised it was not a beard specialist. Many more options.

Well I suppose that rules out Ramses as new alt leader... Oh bother

It doesn't have to be an alt-leader. It could be any leader.

Pretty much half the people I ask do (and thus the other half don't) consider Mexico as part of Central America. Notably, many more from countries like Honduras, Guatemala, etc. that I have spoken with say that it is not Central America. That said, they also often say that Central America is not part of North America (and that is broadly considered wrong- as Central America is part of the North American continent by most definitions).

The Aztec are part of North America; he's saying that the lack of Central America representation may make it more likely for the Maya to show up.

It turns out my understanding of "Central America" is incorrect and it doesn't include South and Central Mexico. I have always assumed that whole area was Central.

So the Aztecs are were I thought they were. When I read his post I was confused because I interpreted it as meaning they might be further north than I remembered.

Yes, and the two approaches I described comprise the actual spectrum for such communication, actually.

At the one end you have the one-man-show developer who posts in forums and posts diaries non-stop, and at the other extreme there's a company like Rockstar that sets the internet on fire whenever it posts a 10-second video or a nondescript screenshot.

But actually, the level of communication doesn't reflect the actual level of delivery.

TLDR: Actually!

Uh? Nuh-uh!

I mean, that's some master level spin you've got going right there, you'd make Alastair Campbell proud.

Your original comment was a response to blackcatatonic asking about what's the advantage about keeping this in secrecy. You replied sarcastically, intended as clear criticism of Firaxis policy, that things such as dev diaries were "surely a pathetic, desperate, amateurish clamoring for attention", and that a proper and successful company such as Firaxis instead does everything 'by committee with lots of internal processes in place to forbid community engagement without proper approvals. A proper company with proper procedures.'

That's it. That's all it was. A quick jab at Firaxis.

From what I can tell, many people up here consider Central America to be "those Spanish Speaking ones behind the Wall" or basically anything not US or Canada. I don't think I agree with that, but then again I don't know if I believe that "Central America" is an actual geographic thing at all. There's North America, and there's South America.

Where are you from? I'm wondering whether this is actually how I learned it when I was a kid. However, the current wikipedia pages in my language does describe North America as Canada, US and Mexico and I can't find anything referring to Mexico as Central.

In all seriousness I think it's one of those "fuzzy borders" kind of things. Reminds me of here (in Pittsburgh) where people can't seem to decide whether to define us as NorthEast, Midwest, or Appalachian city.

edit--or what's the Joke about what a Yankee is?

To foreigners, a Yankee is an American.

To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.

To northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.

To easterners, a Yankee is an New Englander.

To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.

And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

Midwestern US.

To me it's a cultural region rather than a region that is defined by climate or geographic boundaries. North America and South America are continents defined by geographical boundaries. Latin America is a cultural region that includes the portions of both continents that speak Spanish or Portuguese. Central America is the portion of North America included in Latin America. Mesoamerica is an anthropological term referring to pre-Colombian cultures in what is now central and southern Mexico, and Guatemala which effectively no longer exist in their original form due to genocide and assimilation into Latin America.

Here is the first sentence from the wiki page at least for some clarifications.
Central America is a region found in the southern tip of North America and is sometimes defined as a subcontinent of the Americas.[1] This region is bordered by Mexico to the north, Colombia to the southeast.

I've done mission work for these areas and when we send materials behind the country on the address many put C.A., which means Central America, which none of the people in Mexico put on their address.
When we mail them I write out Central America now so they don't get sent back when they couldn't find the address in California. Because apparently there is a Panama, California.

I would have never known that some people thought of Mexico as Central America, but that's one of the reasons why I don't.
Though, know that I think about it, we did learn about Mexico with all the other Latin countries at the same time in my 9th grade World Geography class.

Any thoughts on the prospects for this week? I think we may be getting too close to the holidays for an effective announcement at this point.

All anyone can do is baselessly speculate so your guess is as good as anyone's.

I think if they release an XP anywhere around Dec-Feb, they'll want to get news of it up at the beginning of December to get some Christmas pre-sales. I don't think we'll see anything XP related till late summer now (late winter for you northern hemisphere types).

:agree:

Totes appropes for Civ 6 with random continent divisions on land. As to the original comment on CA not having any representation; that's fine - lump the whole lot in as NA. I mean I want the Maya in...but not because they fill a spot between Mexico and Colombia. Besides, much of the Mayan empire was in Mexico!

Sadly I think you are right. It would be very strange to announce a Q1 content release now, because the optimum time would have been a couple of weeks ago to really make the most of the Christmas pre-ordering period.

I'm still holding out hope that something will be announced in the first few months of next year for a Q2/Q3 release. I refuse to believe this is it for Civ VI content, and if we were getting small DLC packs, I think we would have seen some sign of that by now.

The game awards are in two days and online Christmas sales haven't started yet.

Consider that:
- Games have been announced at the awards in mid December and released in Q1 of the following year, including Mortal Kombat 11 and Far Cry New Dawn.
- The Game Awards viewership has seen a ridiculous increase - 1.9million in 2014, 3.5M in 2016,11.5M in 2017 and 26M in 2018! For comparison the Oscars had 29M;
- With Civ now on consoles, they might be aiming to release the next expansion on all platforms at the same time. The Game Awards are the perfect platform for an announcement;
- Civ 6 won best Strategy Game in 2016.

Is there anything obvious that I might be missing?

That an exp isn't going to have the same hype as a whole new game? I can't see it taking much limelight at an awards night like a whole new anticipated game may do.
I think however the cross platform thing may be a good explanation for why Exp 3 is taking longer...

Maybe they want to announce expansion and spin-off at the same time? :p

How did they do the announcement for the civ4 and 5 spin-offs anyway?

On the matter of tinfoil, I'm proud to announce I have tonight joined the club of those who have dreamt about a third expansion.
The issue is less dreaming itself, but to remember afterwards. This ability can be strengthened by asking oneself repeatedly in awake state, "Am I dreaming right now?". A positive expectation to remember helps it happen.
(Ideally it can even provoke to become aware of being dreaming while doing so -> lucid dream)
Consider that: [...] Is there anything obvious that I might be missing?
Maybe some customers like being led by a nose ring not as much as a "perfect" marketing would require.

Given there will be an announcement at the Game Awards, would it have been too much to officially say / "clearly hint" some days ago / this week, that there will be News then?
And if not, what good for can be seeding now hopes, "something" might happen there?

.

From wiki:
Awards 2018: In addition, updates for previously announced and released games were also shown, including Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey,[17] Anthem,[18] Dauntless,[19] Dead by Daylight,[20] Devil May Cry 5,[21] Fortnite,[22] Forza Horizon 4,[23] Magic: The Gathering Arena,[24] PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds,[25] Psychonauts 2,[26] Rage 2,[27] The Stanley Parable,[28] and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.[29]

Awards 2017: In addition to the awards and other performances, the show included trailers and presentations for upcoming games and content for current ones.

I suspect they might be contractually obligated not to release information? There's apparently 10 games to be revealed of which nothing is known about at all. That's excluding games like Half Life Alyx, which is already known will be making an appearance.
