G-Minor 23

I improved my time by more than 2 centuries...went from 1835AD to 1605AD.

And that was with about 3 glaring problems with my game...first, I used Oracle for CS...but forgot to revolt to Bureaucracy until I had researched Constitution and went to revolt to representation.

Second, I forgot about Astronomy...which meant I didn't research it until I had pretty much reached Apollo Program level, so never was able to build many observatories(only 2 for my 6 cities)

Third, there was no aluminum on the map. No good for space races. I think I could have finished a couple centuries earlier than I did if I'd not made those mistakes.

I hope I get a chance to try it again before the end of the gauntlet :)

Uhhh ... sorry for the intrusions to this highly concentrated discussions of ... stuff ... but where do you go to submit your gauntlet games? Is it the same place you submit all your hof games?

Thanks.

Yes, same exact place.

Ok third attempt is 1495 AD, but I had massive delay due to of building the apollo extremely late (after fission). Probably could have finish at least 10 turns earlier.

 Wow. Two? Seems like one would be strong enough. I always forget I'm playing a different game than most of you. I guess I'll go for the best Vanilla date then. I'm still thinking sub 1200 will be unlikely for us purists.

There aren't that many purists left playing this though, are there?

When the results are released, I'm planning on finding all games played under these settings (so multiple games/player) and giving an overview about Warlords/Vanilla usage (and leader usage).

hi ladies and guys! Gray Cardinal and me join to the current minor. We played our first games. My result is only second... As I know GC played murch better than me. I chose Great Plains and Peter for my first attempt.

So I gather you're using Peter because of this research institute. I assume that only Russia gets that. If so, why not use Catherine. Wouldn't financial be better than Philo?

Another attempt with HC vs. Mansa and Asoka. Took out Mansa early, finished 1705 again =/

I'm probably not building enough workers early. Regarding forests, do you go ahead and chop them early to spam cottages? I've been leaving them for the late game but I'm wondering if the production would be better used in the early game.

Rivergrass forests I always chop early for cottages. I rarely leave any grass forest unless I just don't need that tile yet and I'm considered a build later that would benefit from the chop. If the grass forest sticks around long enough (for whatever reason), than I'll go ahead and save it for a lumbermill.

Plains forests I always leave unless I just need them. I have no use for plains tiles until well into the game. About the only their good for IMO is either a lumbermill (if forested) or a workshop (if not).

Yes, I chop a few forests for cottages around the capital, and put the hammers into useful buildings like libraries, GL, Oxford, etc. However I rely more on Slavery under Org.Rel. and Bureaucracy.

I tried Peter, and I got 1250 AD. I have to work out the tech path after Computers. The Research Institute indeed is a powerful building, and you can get it around 100-300AD, if you beeline to Computers after Education and Philosophy (for Pacifism). I got Computers with Liberalism.

So, build 5-6 cities, specialize them for production (no need for much food, since the Scientists are free), except the capital with plenty of food and a few cottages.

I was running Representation (from Pyramids), Bureaucracy, Slavery, Mercantilism, and Org.Religion most of the time. No need for Emancipation and Democracy, since most of the science comes from specialists, and a few initial cottages are grown up into towns already.

I made a mistake by burning a GE on Research Institute in the capital, I should have saved it for Ironworks, which was not completed by the time I got Rocketry for Apollo. I believe I lost like 5 turns.

I got 1205 AD with Vanilla Civ IV, Mansa, Highlands.
I can't identify any mistakes or bad luck, so I think that's my top score. I only got 1 settler from a hut, so I guess that was not too lucky.

I got 1680AD my frist try with the Caypac, I'm sure theres alot of things i could have done better, im trying this again with musa, see if i can break 1400ad.

I'll attempt one with Russia then, I've never paid much attention to the late-game UBs before...but this research institute sounds like a great late game research addition

4th attempt, got 1355 launch

When did you build Oxford?

however i accidently wont a domination victory in 1355 .

Just to clarify, that makes your game invalid. You may already know that, but I'd prefer to make absolutely sure that both you and everyone else (both players and lurkers) know.

For further clarification on the rules, I suggest you read the HOF Rules page, especially what is disallowed.
