Game crashes during ranged attacks

Unable to find any solution on my continuing google search D:

Do see that others are having this same problem though

After being directed to this thread, i tried to find a workaround for running in DX11(I'm runnin windows 7 sp1, so the option is greyed out intially), and found one pretty quickly. I right-clicked the DX menu and created a shortcut for the DX11 startup on my desktop. Doubled-clicked the icon and it started right up. Game plays on max settings flawlessly now :)

Thanks to all the help in this thread and especially the guy who redirected me here!

Hi

ive been trying to play civilization 5 for a week now but my game keeps crashing on me.

At first i play an earth map with 24 players thinking "o im just keeping my graphical settings way to high" i lower them to their absolute lowest possible levels and the game still crashes so i just assume its the earth mod

then i play a random game of continents and it happens again.

On both games the game crashed when i was bombarding a unit regardless of it being a barbarian or not

For the earth game i have it recorded here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gEOL...ature=g-crec-u if you skip to 24 : 09 the game crashes after i bombard the enemy with my crossbowmen.

on the continents game, the game crashed when i bombard a unit with my city

before this update these graphical issues never used to happen so im confused at whats going on

Always during a ranged attack?
I assume you play on Dx9, correct? If so, then please try DX11, and see if it happens again.

i don't want to sound stupid but it says i need to download service pack 2 or greater however i cant find the download for service pack 2 (im using windows 7)

Please check if Steam or Civ5 have been installed in Vista compatibility mode.
How? Make a right click on the .exe file -> properties -> compatibility tab. There should somewhere be a checkbox, which is in your case most likely marked and set to Vista compatibility mode. Please uncheck that box, hit ok, and try if you can now play under DX11.

THANK YOU SO MUCH !! it was unchecked for some weird reason 0.0 but i got it working however i dont know if the games crashes are completely fixed.

hi look i have the same issues ranged attack of any means game crash at first it started flickering and scating out then it just shut down thinking it was just a hardware issue i upgraded my driver and restarted my computer but alas once i got back to my save point and used ranged attack it happen again i started a new game and same thing again . i have been using Dx9 because the other option freezes with in a couple of turns if not the first . I have a brand new new Hp pavilion G6 i7 core 8 gig with a intell(R) hd graphics 4000 so i am led to belive i should be able to run DX11 .
I just bought this game today and its brand new if there is a fix for this can any one tell me the way to do it step by step because i am not real savy with this whole thing .

to be honest i think this is bull and it is some thing we should not have to deal with

Having the same "Freeze on Bombard" everyone else in this thread seems to be having.

Running Windows Vista, with what I assume is the latest service pack(I updated yesterday)

Also downloaded the latest drivers for my video card, and updated directX to 10.

EDIT: Can play the game in directX 10 now, still not working with dx9

Attached is my DxDaig, any help would be greatly appreciated.

there you go i finally figured out how to attach:crazyeye: every thing is up to date and it just crashs at a bombardment or ranged attack and will not get past the first move on dx 11 .i played again to day and it did not freeze at first ranged attack but started blurring in the resource section at the top of the page and soon locked up totally .i used bombardment prior to that and it froze instantly . my drivers are all above recommended specs i believe and up to date . i just installed the game for the first time a day or so ago and with out ranged attacks it is inhospitable to play

Hey J, im still following this thread cause im intrested in the final solution. You're doing a good job helping people here :)

Please dont think I wanted to troll or something, im realy just intrested when I ask: Did updating the drivers fix it for someone?

I know, its allways a good idea to keep them up to date, so telling people to update is never a bad thing. I just think this is more like a 'known bug' right now, something people have to accept :(

I'd say the only thing to tell people is: Play with Dx11 and if you cant try to minimize the problem by using windowed mode and save all the time.

Hope this didnt sound too trollish now, cause its not ment that way.

You wrote just what what I was thinking I had updated my driver from three different places prior to my last post ( hp,Intel and used Windows) and to no avail. That being said thought I have seemed to fix the issues I had I did a few things so not sure which one fixed it but I right clicked on my desktop and played with my driver settings I think the one that worked was adjusting my driver from quality up to full 3D settings . I can't remember what it was called but I guess the people more in tune with computers would be able to tell you what it is called after all I am just a noob thanks for the help every one I can now play in dx 11 with no freezes yet and I have used ranged attacks around 20-30 times fingers crossed it holds out

:ack: good question, and apparently not, since nobody reported anything like that.
-> If it did for somebody, then we'd like to know that.

If I keep the room cold enough, I can play for close to an hour or so on DX10 or 11. By cold enough, I mean colder than you can stand to be in the room without a heavy coat on.
With DX9, I was able to play all night without adjusting the room temperature. Like I said, I believe my heatsink has burnt out because I used to be able to play high-end graphics games on it and can't anymore without it overheating.
