Game Crashes (when entering a new age)

Help!

Just re-installed this game, patched with 1.29f.

All goes well until the year 1890, I've just developed Theory of Gravity and I get a message saying my civilisation has entered a new age (or something like that). When I close this box down the game crashes back to desktop (Windows tells me the game has to close).

I'm running Windows XP.

This has never happened before, could it be something to do with the patch - I've not used this patch before.

Any ideas?

Tried again with a new game, same thing happened when entering the industrial age. Might try an earlier patch to see what difference that makes.

I couldn't find any other patches so I just re-installed with no patch and it worked.
