Excel files can be opened in Works (at least my version in XP). I think I've downloaded one somewhere that calculated the pay-off.

If you have enough disk space (about 70 MB) you can download and use the free OpenOffice.org 1.1 suite. I can recommend it.

the only gameplay accessory i use is a credit card
