Game Saturn

I just want to make contact with Lord Parkin and get his techs.
Just as long as you've got something worthwhile to offer in return, of course... :p

Will you? Please?

Walk around? Shouldn't take you more than 40 turns or so.

Or in 20ish turns the restriction will expire, you can declare, and try your luck at going up the middle?

Actually according to the rules, if you refuse to open borders the restriction doesn't apply and he can declare immediately. :hammer:

Obviously Elkad isn't interested in making friends.

Also blarg you undid the move of mister can-only-log-in-for-like-fifteen-minutes-a-day. Do we need to lengthen the turn so he can retake his move or will it be skipped when he likely doesn't get back in time?

as it is not dmocs fault he has to redo his turn, i'd vote for pausing the game until he's there (or cant you login when you pause?). skipping turns suck...and if it is a cruical turn for him we have to reload anyway and loose another day :(

But if one of us pauses it, will DMOC be able to make his move or will he have to contact us during his brief window of online time to unpause it, and hope we are also online then?

anyone can unpause, regardless of who paused.

The exception is if you have a tradewindow up from another player. Then you need someone to unpause for you.

Uh, is this rule written down somewhere? When I joined I heard "no war for 100 turns", but not any exceptions.

Okay so it turns out I do not know how to pause. No clear button anywhere when logged in... P, Ctrl+P, Alt+P, etc none of those worked. Ah well, someone else can do it.

Nope, we don't really have any solid ruleset floating around, as was said this game wasn't very serious, a lot of first-time pitbossers. You can read some discussion of the rules laid down here and here.

The basic ideas I think is that the less experienced users are safe until turn 100 so they don't get wiped out by the guys who know what they're doing, but "experience" seems to refer to single player difficulty level as me and DMOC got tossed into the experienced group even though we almost never played multiplayer before. The original idea was experienced could early declare on experienced, inexperienced could early declare on experienced, but experienced could not early declare on inexperienced.

Also having to allow open borders was mentioned but looking through it carefully it looks like that is only the case if you aren't boxing someone in by doing so. Since you aren't boxing in DMOC, you probably don't have to. As with the above though discussion sort of fizzled out and no solid rules were settled on.

Although I have to say that refusing to open borders with a civ that hasn't wronged you in the past seems kind of dickish, guess I assumed open borders would given by default as an act of goodwill. Unless you are planning to invade him soon, in which case you'd be kind of tipping your cards early... or perhaps you're just playing a Tokugawa. ;)

The rules were discussed in the prediscussion thread "Intra team pitboss...". i'm not totally sure about final desicion, but I've played the game following this formulation of the no-war rule:
* two groups: experienced and less-expereienced
* experienced were: Lord Parkin, DMOC, Joshua and plako
* experienced had restriction that they can't declare war to less experienced for the first 100 turns, unless they refuse to open borders.

pausing is done from the keyboar (pause break button). I have never done this, but read instructions from this forum. How is unpause done?

i guess pressing the same button again?

Or I don't want people scouting my land to plan their invasion.

Or someone bribed me to leave him out in the cold.

Or I don't want him to see my stack of shiny swords till they are burning his fields.

Anyway, skimmed some of those threads..

DMOC: I'm experienced. I have every intention of staying peaceful until at least T100, and I haven't decided if I'm even going to war, much less who my first target will be. However, I'm not opening borders for free. "Please" was a nice starting point, but its not good enough. So offer me a bribe/treaty/something, or declare and try your luck at trampling through, or go around.

Okay well I paused the game so DMOC just hit the Pause/Break button on your computer to unfreeze it and retake your move. Unless Elkad gave you a diplomacy screen so you can't do that... in which case ask someone else to fix it before you log off for the day.

I'll be around all day, so hopefully I'll notice as soon as DMOC posts if he has any trouble. :)
