game stops responding after switching windows

I've lost several games in a row now and wonder if anyone else has this problem. I'll be playing BTS while chatting on AIM with a friend. Every now and then when I alt+tab to go back from Aim (or another window) to BTS I get a black screen with just the big arrow BTS cursor. The cursor responds to the mouse but there is only the black screen. Ctrl+alt+del shows BTS is not responding. I have autosave on for each turn but I'm playing games I hope to submit to the HoF so these crashes ruin that hope. It is very frustrating. Running Windows 7.

Anyone else run into this problem?

It happens to a lot me as well. I always save my game before switching now.

Some of my mods I play are quite complex.
