Lurker's Comment: If it means anything, I'm willing to be a "magazine" and comment on a few games ;)

This is horrible, but it can be considered one of the 'opening sequences'

The light flickers slowly, thrown from two small wooden torches hung in the rear corners of the cell. The ground is covered in a thick layer of dirt, brown upon darker brown as the mud bricks are slowly covered with the passing of time. Shackled with two thick chains, languishing in the center of the backwards cell, the wild-man kneels on the ground. The rustle of chains littler the air as the wild-man, groggily shaking his mangled head, shifts in his subterranean prison. A loud echo slams the empty hall as, from far down the corridor, the empty pangs of the door sounds. Seconds later, a small party paused in front of the cell.

Eabani groaned, his mangled hair disheveled and hanging loosely in front of his eyes, as he shifted his weight from one knee to the other. The light cast from the torch dances across the brick floor, shadows fleetingly tangoing in the dim lighting. Shannat hesitated slowly, pausing for a second to press his slick hair back into place once again, before waltzing forward. The guards behind him shifted uneasily, unsatisfied with the thin restraints holding the wild-man in place, but still remained silent as their leader moves into arms-length. The trader moves forward, motioning for the guards holding Eabani up to release their captive. Shannat drops to his knees, cold gray eyes boring their way into Eabani's thoughts.

Quietly, kneeling before the wild-man, and slowly, as if dream, Shannat extended his hand slowly until he cuped Eabani's chin in his meaty palm. Behind him, the light cast off from the torches continued to flicker as the guards paused in their shifting. Shannat begins to speak, his voice slow and heavy, drawn out in his slurred southern speech. “They say you are invincible, wild-man.” He paused, looking back to give his guards an amused smile. “More than invincible, actually. The child of the goddess Aruru and some trash, if you wish to get specific.” The wild-man said nothing, sunken head falling after Shannat removes his hand. Grimacing, the trader stood once more before wiping the grime onto the loose folds of his smock. “Bring him.”, he said quietly to his guards as he made his way out of the prison.

for expo, tell the players to how they want to set up their booth and presentation and you take the role of the media person or something. so the player's order will include the booth order.

I didn't want to do that style again. :p You can have the big three create conferences for the show including in them whatever the smaller studios want to add in video or speech wise.

@Lucky, ill try to post a new game concept for tommorrow, and perhaps a story too.

If you update before then, could I just put funding into rushing Brain Pirates game along, meeting the usual production costs, and put all remaining split 50/50 between generic research and a big fat bonus for all my employees :)

pm orders sent!

I'm not updating until everyone sends orders. So I can weasel out those companies no one is playing as.

I'm sending orders. Eventually. Need some time to write stories, etc.

If you guys want to write your show press conferences that can count as your entire story for the turn if you want. Just contact your exclusives and get info and I can update based on that and orders. Only needs from the big 3. Seems germanicus is gone? If he is I might have to get a new leader for his company.

Sorry @Lucky but I may be too busy with other stuff to give the amount of input you want for this.

Orders will be sent via PM in a moment.

As for my 'expo' slot, I can't give you any great ideas for this, I don't know much about them in real life...

Obviously, Id like stands with lots of consoles available for people to drop-in and start playing, with various multiplayer sessions going on all the time. And big inflatable characters from various Takk games to attract attention. And one room with a high-tech, pseudo-3D movie screen, showing trailers of upcoming stuff. Hopefully I can delegate to some crazy Scandinavian designers to come up with the rest!

+New game

Game Name:
Krystal Kingdoms
Game Type: 'Frantic' Platformer
Console(s): Takk
Development Status: 0/3?
Description: A game that attempts to bring classic Sonic and Mario gameplay to the Takk, wrapped up in ultra smooth semi-3D graphics. The main character is Koa, a flightless dragon, who can nonetheless jump, glide and run around at high speed. Koa can change colours/modes for different abilities - such as breathing fire, actual flight, immunity to projectiles etc - but only after a high enough score has been reached. Levels are short and very faced paced, with plenty of opportunity to zoom around at incredible speeds. A simple 3rd-person 'warp' section allows the player to choose the next level (by running into warp gates) while dodging obstacles and picking up powerups. The entire game can be completed in 30 minutes or less, by an experienced player, going the shortest route. But it can take more than 10 hours to find and complete all the levels (including many secret stages). There are multiple possible endings to the game, and various places where the game state can be saved. Extra playable characters can be unlocked along the way - an angry monkey, transforming robot, and an intrepid ferret, to name a few - and each of them has its own special 'challenge' level to complete for extra bonuses. Multiplayer co-op is possible via splitscreen, or even sharing a single screen, with other characters teleporting back into view if they go off-screen for too long.

Some of the main game worlds: (there are many more besides these)
Spoiler :

Equatorial Zone - the compulsory happy green landscape zone! A mix of jungles, hills, caves, and open areas.

Enemies: giant caterpillars, killer butterflies, angry monkeys, angry leaping fish

Traps: spike traps, sticky goo laid by giant caterpillars, carnivorous plants, swampy pools, hallucinogenic mushrooms!

Vehicles: a reliable 4x4 motor, big enough to squish enemies

Fastest bits: being spat out by carnivorous plants, going flying far above the jungle canopy

Boss: A giant mechanical snail, that hides in its shell for a while after being hit.

Mountain Temple Zone - An Egyptian style temple, on top of a frozen volcanic mountain, with random Aztec artefacts mixed in

Enemies: mountain eagles, mutant polar bears, mummies, skeletal warriors, giant beetles

Traps: the cliché rolling ball of doom, shooting-arrow traps, falling icicles, slippery frozen areas, earthquakes, volcanic sections

Vehicles: a friendly giant mutant mountain bunny!

Fastest bits: falling down hills, zooming up and down sloping pyramids

Boss: A giant golden skeletal warrior in ornamental armour.

Clockwork zone - steampunk, gears, stone, water, metal and rust

Enemies: clockwork knights, giant rats, spiders

Traps: swinging pendulums, falling bells, crushing pistons, giant cogwheels, flooded sections, steaming vents, steam-powered turrets

Vehicles: a sturdy steam-powered tank!

Fastest bits: being flung across the level by great blasts of steam

Boss: A giant clockwork spider, whose limbs must be disabled one by one, all the while it lays 'eggs' from which mini clockwork monsters appear.

Haunted Castle zone - An impossibly large, semi-ruinous castle, with other-the-top gothic architecture.

Enemies: lots of ghostly Knights in cool-looking armour, ghosts, goblins, bats, and strange morphing blobs. We will use the old cliché where the ghosts can only move or harm you when you are not looking at them!

Traps: falling debris, swinging swords and maces, fire pits

Vehicles: An automated suit of armour can be piloted, with a giant sword to swing!

Fastest bits: Zooming down staircases, with occasional piles of debris acting as a 'ski jump'

Boss: A hideous dark knight. Various parts of armour need to be destroyed and removed, until all that is left is a cowardly ghost at the core, all the while dodging falling debris.

Tech zone - all metal, wires, tubes, electricity, fluorescent goo, and strange devices of both modern and classic sci-fi appearance.

Enemies: mutated animals, robots, weapon turrets

Traps: powerful magnets, toxic ooze, electric bolts

Vehicles: strange flying machines and walker robots, with deadly weaponry

Fastest bits: Zooming along super-speed tubes and travelling upside-down along magnetic platforms.

Boss: A giant robot with many different modes of attack. Is fought in various stages. After each limb/weapon is removed, the robot retreats and must be chased through a high-speed tube section, while dodging traps.

Sven Landerson wandered randomly around Digi Forge HQ, pausing in the 'games culture' room. Dozens of Light Complexes, Takk and Pheonix consoles where lined up, many wired together, with various games being played. Their was an unhealthy atmosphere to the place. Stale air, empty packets of junk food, a sense of inactivity.

"Oh hi, boss" said one of the geekier looking people.

"Hi, guys..." one or two people were able to manage a cursory nod before focusing back on their screens. "What you playing, here?"

"This is Zombie Chronicles, running on the Light Complex. Real good!"

"Well, remember to make notes for our design group. And please, take breaks, go do something else for a while, drink plenty of water, go to the toilet regularly... You hear me? We don't want an unhealthy image for our products. At that starts with you guys. Im serious here."

"I hear you boss, I'll take a break soon"

I should get tougher on these guys, Sven thought to himself. Messing up the Chi of the whole HQ...

Speaking of which, when he got back to his office, that wasn't exactly a harmonious atmosphere, either. Cuddly toys of various Takk games littered his desk, watching over piles of official-looking documents. Sven was really starting to hate those documents. They could wait a minute or two...

He sat down and swivelled on his swivelling chair, pushed a button on his desk, and a Takk console rose up from beneath a sliding hatch, displacing a model of the hero fighter from Jet Stream in the process. A few moments later, the latest development version of Ferret Wars had loaded, and Sven joined a game that others were playing somewhere else on the HQ network.

Half an hour passed in a flash.

"Noo, how did you get to the tank first!"

"Sven, just to remind you, the meeting will be starting shortly"

"Ah, thanks Jen", replied Sven, pleased with himself that he could now remember his secretary's name. He suddenly felt sweaty and tired. It would be good to get out of these clothes...

---

Another half an hour later, he looked round the spa pool at the assembled aristocracy of Digi Forge.

"Ah, its so good that we can meet here, isn't it?"

He said, suddenly realising that most of those attending looked anything but comfortable. But Sven preferred bathing suits to work suits any day. He wanted Digi Forge to be a company that broke boundaries, in every sense. And anyway, the warm water was so relaxing, it was impossible to get stressed by anything that was discussed...

"So... Things have been kinda quiet in the industry, huh?"

"Yes, they have, sir", a skinny young man replied, "Sales are at record levels, but there's not much media attention on any games company"

"Everyone is still talking about Christmas toys and movies", a young and rather attractive woman butted in, "the pre-Christmas games rush started too early, and burned itself out. But we shouldn't be too concerned, so long as sales remain good"

"That is true" said an older man, boldly, "But sir, what of the sales and public interest we are missing out on? I think it may be time to publicly announce the X-project!"

Half the people in the pool now looked confused, as well as embarrassed and uncomfortable...

"Guys, please, no 'sirs' here, you know to call me Sven! And Halvor, you know we have yet to announce that little project to most of our own company. Besides, we don't even have much to announce yet."

Sven grabbed a glass of whiskey from the poolside, and took a sip.

"Oh by the way, any new games coming up?"

"Yes s-ah Sven, in-house team has that new platformer concept ready to take to the next level" said a slightly overweight young man.

"Good, good, that looked promising. OK guys, if there's nothing else, maybe we can wrap this up?"

"Well yes there is something else, Sven" said a stern-faced middle-aged woman, to the disapproving looks of those eager to leave, "there is the matter of the employee bonus, you know, the tax complications, fair distribution, and so on"

Sven raised his eyebrows, and took another sip of whiskey. Why was it that the most complications seemed to arise when he tried to do something nice?

"OK, ah, can we get some of those waterproof laptops in here, thanks"

So much for that fifth game of Ferret Wars...

Very nice story Daft. Need more of them like this.

Game Name: Gilgamos
Game Type: Platformer/Action
Console(s): N/A
Development Status: 1/4
Description: (Very) loosely based upon the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamos is slated to be a 'modernized throwback' to platforms of old. Best described as a mix of a 3d platformer and an adventure game, Gilgamos stars the young hero Eabani. Created by the goddess Aruru to do her bidding, the initial Eabani can be best described as a 'wild-man', as her name suggests. The game begins with Eabani, plucked out from his home in the wilderness, shackled and arrested by the rich courtesan Shannat. Shannat, having secured Eabani in order to order him against his own enemies, offers Eabani a deal - eliminating his rival in the court of the great King Gilgamesh- in exchange for his freedom. Only to have his problems expanded, Aruru appears to Eabani and sets him upon a quest ultimately to save Gilgamesh. During the game, the player battles through numerous locations-from the city of Ur, to desert locations, a few minor villages, and the great hall of Giglamesh- and battle numerous factions and creatures from Near Eastern mythology. The game does not support multiplayer.

Initiatives:
$2000 attributed to Employee costs.
$8000 attributed to Production costs.
$2000 attributed to continued Gilgamos
$5000 attributed to speeding up Gilgamos
$3000 attributed to reserves (bank it).

Game Name: Apocalyptic Galactic Piracy
Game Type: Sci-fi Adventure RPG
Console(s): Light Complex
Development Status: 2/4
Description:
The story begins on the planet of Arclow where a strange group attacked and decimated the entire planet, save for a small group who survived by escaping on board the ASV Shepherd's Pie. The Shepherd's Pie is damaged - ironically - by the minced up remains of one of the combat craft (ACV MooMoo) and manages to lose its bearings in the chaos.
The player is now tasked with taking the Shepherd's Pie little runabout to find parts to help the isolated Pie out - sparking off a massive set of adventures - and that Arclow may not be all there is in the universe...
This game aims to create a highly open-ended RPG with significant amounts of humour and a gigantic storyline. The graphical engine does not need to be top-notch and most focus and development should go to creating this world.
