Into The Storm
Recently, there has been a lot of hysteria regarding the future of the gaming industry. There’s a handheld in development, Digi Forge is pressing ahead with the “Chi”, whatever that is…it’s probably powered by the souls of dead orphans…, the cataclysmic implosion of Hayden Entertainment, and the hype pressure for the next generation of consoles is just building up. What new features will be see? Better online services? More beautiful graphics? Will we finally have a hockey title to play? There is a lot left unknown, and it’s making people apprehensive. Enter: The Storm (no pun intended).
Inferno industries, true to their form, have decided to shake things up a bit. Recently, they announced that they
are developing their own console. That blows things wide open. The scales of balance have already been disturbed, what with NKI claiming the Phoenix and KKC gobbling up the other half of the Phoenix light, but now this? It makes my head spin. Then again….that’s probably a good thing. These are exciting times.
What seems to be the most interesting is Eruption Entertainment’s (the branch of II in charge of the console) angle on the whole “gaming experience” thing. All the attention, all the features, and all the cool gadgets are going to be limited to only those things that enhance gameplay experience. No picture stuff, no surfing the internet (which is incredibly annoying unless you have the $$ for a nice big HDTV and all the peripherals anyways, and even if you do have the cash why not just use a computer?), just games. EE’s spokeswoman and CEO Jeanette has stated that the current industry has “lost touch with the gamers. They are looking for profitable games, not good games. We aim to purify gaming. We want to take gaming to the next level. That’s what it’s really all about. We are all gamers too.”
It may be a bit early to jump to conclusions about the system, but from what we’ve heard so far, it will be killer. Bluetooth connectivity will eliminate all those annoying cords and the confusion of whose controller is whose, plus there will be no necessary attachments to let you and seven of your closest friends show off some MadSkillz. There is also a lot of talk about a new, dynamic social networking system built into the online service, adding another layer of depth to these already addicting matchmaking programs. But don’t worry, it’s not MySpace for consoles, or so they say. It’s “strictly game-related”. There is also talk of some homebrew support and a lot of PC-Console connectivity they have hinted at, but are yet to officially announce. I can’t wait to check it out.
With all this news coming out of Eruption Entertainment, you’d think we would know more about the console itself, even though it’s too early to actually see much in action. Oddly enough…we don’t know much at all. Jeanette is keeping a lot hidden from the public eye…perhaps a leaf taken out of the Daft Punk book. In any case, the mystery surrounding the Storm is working…at least on me. Whatever they’re cooking under the hood, it’s gotta be good. Check out the trailer here:

Man, that Jeanette is one fine woman…

It's gonna be quite a Christmas season indeed, no matter when this thing releases. Happy trails!

I kno right? So awesum. I loves chocolate covered nachos. Especially when they are like virtual reality nachos. With virtual nacho taste, and virtual nacho cheese burns, and virtual nacho pain. Mmm, so savory.
In all seriousness, I’m really liking the sound of this. The focus on the consumer is really a refreshing break, what with death threats and celebrity support for the Phoenix and virtually no word at all from TLC, it seems a little distant…a bit out of touch. Hopefully Eruption can live up to the hype.

Dude…two things.
1) Caps lock is cruise control for stupid
2) You’re such a fanboy. Open your eyes. If anything is a “true game system”, it would be a system that caters to players, not profits. If anything claims to meet that formula, it’s the Storm. Nothing against TLC, but seriously...do your research!
3) Daft Punk is awesome!
