Gary's Poser Unit Creation Thread and Workshop

Hi Tank Guy, unfortunately I don't have one of those. I do have a shovel, pickaxe, hoe, machete, axe and chainsaw. So I will be packaging the unit as a worker, except with combat animations for the EFZI mod.

try setting the Hat color between the fist one and this current color...doesn't have to be that dark...just not "new" looking because as you stated, at CIV Scale, it will just blend into mostly the same Shade. You can also play with Textures that can provide a look that may also be good.

OK. I'll play around with the hat some more. I think the jeans are a good worn color. If I make them any grungier they'll stop looking like jeans I think. In the meantime I've put together a small preview of what I have so far, RUN, DEFAULT and FIDGET. All three are 15 frames each. The RUN will be faster in game and the DEFAULT and FIDGET will be slower.

PS. From this point forward if anyone has unit pics to display for me, please use spoilers as some people are still using dial up. That last page with all those Russian infantry pics even took awhile to load on my machine with broadband. Thanks. :)

OK. Here's the first hat.

And here is the second hat.

Finally here's the hat sort of inbetween the first two with some schmutz on it.

Here are RUN x3, DEFAULT x1, FORTIFY x1 and ATTACK x3 to the East. This should give a good idea of what the attack looks like so far.

He really goes for the zombies throat. :goodjob:

Looking Good Gary...I suggest lowering the Pitchfork so it is more Horizontal where the Points will Hit in the Stomach area. This would be about straight across from his Stomach.

Also would be even better if he leaned into the Attack more...this would show a more Intentional Force rather than just stabbing at the enemy using the arms. Bend the head and shoulders down and toward the Attack with a lunging motion.

Edit: What I am saying is that the Farmhands are Not intimidated by the Zombies (or anyone else) and they will certainly apply intentional "Farmhand Force" to their Attacks :) The Points on the pitchfork are in a more Upward position so the Pitchfork would be used by moving it Straight ahead starting in a very slight down position and arching up as it comes to the actual Attack Point, which would be around the Stomach area.
Think Tossing Hay Bales

This looks great. The only comment I would make is that the pitchfork needs to be much thicker (unrealistically so), or it won't show up very well in game. Thin items in unit animations, such as spears or shovels or horses' legs, need to be made much thicker than they would really be, or they just turn into a line of dots.

also at some angles it looks like a hockey stick

That is much better now :)

Not sure if I could suggest anything it's all been taken up...:hmm:

Much better Gary... Because the Pitchfork is larger, I believe it may be already Hitting the Enemy Unit Before he actually Lunges Forward. You might need to have him hold it closer to the Fork and adjust how far he Moves it with his arms...especially where the Pitchfork starts in the Attack.

Note...have him Hold the Pitchfork without sliding his Left Hand.

Have him step forward More with his Left Foot before the Attack so he is not out of balance when he Lunges. Don't want him losing his balance and falling over :)

Changes:

1. Pitchfork has been shortened.
2. Most of the left hand slide has been eliminated. (there's still just a little I'm having a difficult time getting rid of.)
2. Stepping motion has been added.

Two samples with very slight differences in the step motion:

Sample1: . . . . . . . . . . Sample2:

EDIT: Well maybe the difference is too slight to notice. One is with the foot hitting the ground 1 frame quicker on the return step.

OK. Changes:

1. Pitchfork is 25% larger.
2. Unit leans more into the attack.
3. Pitchfork is more horizontal in attack.

Ah, the joys of creating a unit for someone else. ;)

The farmhand looks to be turning out well. Nice work.

Thanks. Yeah, it's frustrating at times doing and redoing stuff but I have to admit the unit is shapping up better and better as I go. The more I compare my latest animations with my first attempts the less I like the first ones.

Unfortunately I'm not a very astute student of nature and motion so a lot of stuff escapes my scrutiny until someone points it out to me. God only knows what my units would look like if no one ever commented on their faults.

It's still a little disheartening trashing an entire day's worth of work, though. So I spent the past couple hours playing Civ III to calm my nerves.

Gary... I completely understand the Frustrations of "pleasing" someone else with work and I know it is important to decide that IF that is the endeavor, the adjustments are all part of the course.

I have to say that All of Your Previous Work is Not a Loss because it is built on what you have already done rather than starting over from scratch. These are "Adjustments" not Total Loss of Work. That may seem like trying to see the "Silver Lining In a Cloud" so to speak but True none the less.

Generally I do not post what I would otherwise do so in a Private Message or E-mail but you have told me that you prefer this so I am only stating what I see and that can improve your work efforts. Seriously, I am not trying to be TOO Particular... I know you want true opinions and I am just offering that :)

Be sure to Keep the Fun in your Efforts because Creativity NEEDS Fun or it is not inspirational and will lack that Fine touch that can only be accomplished through Inspirational Desire.

Just to make my point...your 1st Render would be better than the existing Game Unit for the Position so do not despairat all... I simple understood that you wanted Detailed Feedback.

This all reminds me of the Old Adage "No Pain, No Gain" of course that is easier to say than take :)
This Unit is coming along VERY well and will be a Great Unit indeed :goodjob:
