[GS] Gathering Storm Screenshots Discussion Thread

It looks like there may only be room for one Mesopotamia civ in the games now. And we got it. One is better than none I suppose.
Not when that civ is literally "The Epic of Gilgamesh: The Civilization." If we only got one, we could at least have one of Babylon, Assyria, or actual Sumer. :(

I've asked about canals mechanics with regards to land and naval units a couple times during the livestreams, but I was asking on YouTube, and I think they were only looking at twitch...

If so, it could mean that you can generate diplomatic favours by parading your military around other Civs just enough, before withdrawing into your territory. It's Gunboat Diplomacy for other Civilizations! (In Civ V, you can generate influence with City States if you take a tenet and move your military close by; it reminds me of that).

Forward settling and then promising not to do it again may be another possible way to cultivate favours.

But Malian architecture has been in the game since vanilla. If anything, it's Kongo and the Zulus who need a new style, as the Sahelian city set they're using is painfully inaccurate. Second worse misuse of architecture after Brazil, really. The fact that the Kongo city set contrasts so dramatically with its own unique district, as well as Mvemba's background, is enough to make you wonder why Firaxis didn't just give them the Egyptian set and skip African architectural (mis)representation entirely. It's completely baffling.

It'd be like adding Brazil but not having the Aztecs until the 2nd expansion, but still inexplicably creating a unique Mesoamerican art set solely for Brazil (and La Venta!).

AGREED 100%! I'm still hoping they end up making new graphics or at least changing Brazil's to something else with a patch, since it seems like they didn't do it with this expansion.

I have come to accept Canada as a civ. And I don't have room to talk since I support America as a civ.

I disagree with this. America has been the most important power in the entire world the last century and a bit, while Canada... Isn't. In my opinion, the USA, Russia and China would be the only three nations warranting inclusion because of their modern-time achievements, and two of those also have achievements in earlier times that make them warrant inclusion.

Moderator Action: This is a screenshots thread, not a Canada thread (there's a separate thread for that discussion), so back on topic please.

@Giskler post some screenshots here? ;)

They didn't show off any of the City-States in the Maori First Look, I think?

No, there's not that much to see that is not related to the Maori. The Great Baths again from another angle and for the White Desert, only the Time Line, not the NW on the map.

Damn, I really don't remember that one. Maybe because I often get it automatically. ^^" I like shipyards.

Is that a wonder in steam power? Looks like the Golden Gate Bridge.
Nevermind: Panama Canal. :o

I still hope that colonization is the theme of the unique unit: a (expensive) galley replacement that can be consumed to found a coastal city. And that the ability focuses on trade. Dido's UA can be that civilian units cannot be captured, but escape to the adjacent tile instead :p

I wouldn't be surprised if Phoenicia's abilities lend themselves towards economy with a focus on diplomacy.

Cothon could spawn some free resources on construction and provide bonus envoy generation points.

It could also have some modifiers to sea trade distance.

I haven't been following this thread too closely, but anybody notice this yet?

I'm hoping this is indicative of some kind of world relation stats being available from the diplomacy screen. If that's the case, I'm also hoping that it's available when a leader just approaches you out of the blue about friendship or promises and similar things.
