[GS] Gathering Storm Screenshots Discussion Thread

Is it on a mountain in the screenshots?

I am surprised they didn't have it built on a mountain. There must be some kind of graphical reason they aren't doing that.

They did build it in a mountain as Giskler pointed out:
It is. Look at the timelapse at the end, there's a mountain range of desert mountains and Machu Picchu is built on top of the end of it.

I guess everyone missed it so here:

It's on a mountain.

Yeah but it should be higher.

Should it? Its on a plateau with a peak behind it. Its at an altitude of 2430 metres.
Cuzco which is in a valley is at an altitude of 3399 metres.

If you're lucky enough to get to visit, you literally walk down to Machu Picchu. Although if you stay in the nearby town (Aquas Caliente), as opposed to doing the trail, you take a bus up first and then walk down.

I went by train from Cuzco then stayed overnight. In the morning with mist gradually clearing from the site it was amazing (and nearly empty).

It's on a mountain.

This makes me wonder if the placement requirements for the Potala Palace, Petra and Cristo Redentor will be changed to mountain tiles. Probably not, considering the change to the construction animation that will be necessary, but I always found it quite absurd the way that they’re erected from flat land.

More wonders of mountains can be added, such as Neuschwanstein. I do not think Machu Picchu will be the only wonder to be built on a mountain.

At the very least, it provides modders with the capability to create additional mountaintop wonders.

Doesn't look bad, what's wrong with it?

I agree, it looks pretty good to me. It's a royal estate built on a terrace on a mountain. They've got nice detail of the Inca masonry too.

I was hoping for something more akin to civ V's graphic for Machu Picchu I mainly loved seeing the vibrant green mountain tops, and that plus the effect the wonder had made it a main priority in every game. But don't get me wrong I love the architectural detail of this new version it's just not the same to me without those beautiful green mountains. :(

*I guess I still have hope for neuschwanstein

So in case the mound thingy is a wonder and not an improvement, the wonder roaster would be complete.

How's that?

1) Panama Canal
2) Golden Gate Bridge
3) Great Bath
4) Mach Picchu
5) (unidentified Indian temple)
6) Cahokia Mound, maybe?
7) ???

I thought it turned out that the unidentified Indian temple was the Great Bath or is there another one that i didn't know about?
