[GS] Gathering Storm Screenshots Discussion Thread

Bonus resource blocks district placement (29:48 on YT):

It wasn't clear whether district placement is considered "harvesting" since you aren't getting the yields (especially after Ed's tweet which emphasized the word "harvest").
They specifically mentioned it during the stream.

I'm guessing this is a game engine restriction or something. I can live with it, but will make city placement even more crucial.

I wonder if that means they're also going to to change the goddess of the harvest pantheon

The emphasis wqs probably made as some idenified Maori were also prevented from removing (chopping) features such as forest or jungle. This they can do (altough they lose some noce bonuses they receive from them)

Of note, I didn't see anything that would prevent settling on a bonus resource, so hopefully that's still possible. But definitely no districts (and presumably no wonders) on bonus resources will definitely be a pain. Like my current game, my best Colosseum spot was on a Cow tile.

Did they change the square footage of the granary? It definitely had a square base before, which always triggered be because of how much of the city it physically took up.

It seems like such a random, unimportant thing, but I have to admit I'm really excited about it. The monument also looks smaller.

Am I the only one who actually likes the current Monument and Granary? If they're going for a board game feel in Civ6, I say fully embrace it with those large game piece-looking city center buildings.

I didn't even consider wonder placement being blocked by bonus resources. That's going to sting.

Was coal that limited as a resource or was it more about steam engine technology? I'm having trouble picturing a nation being able to produce enough steel to cover the ship and not have coal to power it. Something like a turtleship had scale armor and sales, but (north) Korea is extremely coal-rich.

With coal you make the steel. Without coal, you can't. That's as good a reason as any to make the ship dependent on coal.

But obviously I have no idea how they're going in GS. It wouldn't fuss me if you needed iron and coal both. That just keeps iron an important strategic resource for a lot of eras, which is kind of contrary to the current game design decision that missing a strategic resource only affects you for one or two eras.

I like any change that make decisions like, do I want an Ironclad or a factory and actual though choice

I literally never chop resources (and rarely chop features, except Jungle just because I don't like it). I don't even know how to do the chop-overflow exploit. I just don't care enough to min-max a game like this against the AI...I'd rather make an aesthetically pleasing empire and have fun.

I saw some posts yesterday praising the decision to fix the exploit because now the poster "wouldn't have to do it." I found that very funny! Don't get me wrong, I'm happy it's being fixed, but no one is holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to use that glitch! :)

Same, I prefer to keep Forests for Holy Site adjacencies, and only chop when I have a layout for districts or wonders planned. And I NEVER harvest resources unless I really really REALLY feel like it. Which is rare.

You don't like granting your cows and sheep citizenship rights and moving them into the city as extra population?
