GEM 1.7.9 defeat on startup

Running GEM 1.7.9 and CivUP 2.0.46 (the latter from Steam auto-update), starting a new game results in defeat before the first turn.

I have deleted my cache and ModUserData folder. No other mods are active.

The problem appears to be a failed map script, as the minimap appears to show the whole world as ice. You never get to see your settler.

I've tried redownloading GEM, but that didn't help.

Its not enough to make sure that no other mods are active

Civ has a habit of checking all mods in your mods directory even though they're not activated so make sure you dont have multiple versions of the mod (or other mods) in there.

Skodim: Thanks for the info about deleting all mods. I've now done that (only had infoaddict and reseed).

It hasn't affected the problem though.

The only stuff in my mods directory is stuff put there by GEM and CivUP. Screenshot attached. Civ mods folder.png

The following map scripts do not work
Amazon Plus
Arborea
Archipelago
Boreal
Europe
Four Corners
Fractal
Frontier
Great Plains
Great Plains Plus
Hemispheres
Highlands

The following map scripts do seem to work
Ancient Lakes
Earth

Did you rename the GEM mod (folder) when unzipping it?

I don't know if that makes any difference or not. But I've never done it.

(infoaddict shouldn't be any conflict issue).

The GEM mod subfolder is called "GEM", as in the screenshot.

There's also, as in the screenshot, a file .MODINFO file.

With no other ideas left, I deleted Civ altogether and reinstalled from scratch from Steam. That fixed the problem.
