General Election

This is a topic that will have most relevance to the Brits but of course anyone may reply. It is the general election in three weeks time, I am eligible to vote for only the second time yet already I am fed up of politics.

We are supposed to have a multi party system but there are only two parties who can ever win. The Tories are a joke, Labour are the Tories in disguise. At times like this we need FL2s none of the above option.

The campaign seems to be all about spin and who can kiss the most babies with more money allowed for campaign funds than ever before. Labour seems to bypass parliament and go straight to the press with news of government policy. The whole thing stinks to me.

Is anyone else losing faith in the British political system. We are supposed to have the mother of all parliaments it's looking more like a wizzened old grandma to me.

I suggest the accolade "mother of all pariaments" might be better given to the Icelandic "Things", particularly the Althing which dates from the year 930.

Anyway, I first voted in the early 1970s. And I shall vote again this year, but what choices do I have? It's very sad when one party self destructs to the extent that they lack credibility as an opposition, let alone a potential party of government. Labour did it in the 80s; now the Tories seem to have done it. Perhaps now - as then - the best thing that can happen is for an even bigger landslide to occur with the hope that it will force the opposition to get itself sorted. But I'm not holding my breath...

I didn't realize Labour was doing so well. I thought Blair took a lot of heat for the whole hoof and mouth disease fiasco.

So do I. I've heard the radio yesterday. Ok, I'm not British enough to judge but in some ways Blair disgusted me. I don't think he did his best to stop the F&M disease spreading. Anyway, I suppose the majority has chosen.

Oh and for those who still wonder, I've not voted. I remind you that I'm not English but an emigrant French, faaaaar from his hoooome...

Labour 52%
Tory 28%
LibDem 16%
Other 3%

What were the figures last time? I wouldn't be surprised if the landslide is bigger than I predicted.

Well not "hopelessly socialized", we usually don't pay more than 40-60% taxes here in Europe. But I don't think that all that many people would trade it away for less social security!!!

I mean we don't mind and we are perfectly happy knowing that even if we do get sick or lose our jobs we will still bare able to live a comfortable life.

And most importantly everybody get's free hospital/medical treatment - even the poor and homeless!!

I quite often spoil my ballot paper. At the pub the other day i got to saying how i was going TO EAT my ballot paper!

I wonder what would happen if I did?

What Prescott did was both proper and good.It'll teach that fool and others not to go around throwing eggs like some anarchist hippy schoolkid who just finished their exams.

I hope that Labour wipes the floor completely with the Tory scum. I hate all Conservative parties with a hatred approaching boiling point. Blair ain't that much better, but he is better than anything else on offer.

Perhaps Simon was being a tad facetious with the line about "own and control us".

A word of warning to all Brits - we don't want your poxy royalty (the referendum for a Republic failed because we can't agree what form it should take). You send her, and inbred off-spring here, and we'll nuke ya (the Septics will lend us some)!!!!
