General Turn Discussion

Just sent this off. in hindsight i should of offered peace...cause that warrior could mess with our workers on the Gems if he heads north...Barentz can't beat him there.

Yeah, Barentz can. Unless it is a woody 2 warrior as well?

If we have to withdraw our worker for safety then so be it, but we can still get gems online in time for growth in IS with a few worker turn losses if we get sailing next, as we can finish the road last, but we would have to either build an extra axe in CK or stick to size 4 for a little longer. It may make sense in this case to stick at size 4 and build a 4 turns worker, and then grow afterwards; the worker can head off to IS to mine some of the hills. All of these possibilities though are just contingency plans, I'd have to redo some of the MM later on today, but we do have options. One of which would be to suggest to MS to head east, as we could say the north is a dead end.

Ideally either that warrior heads east and not north, or we kill it. Either works for me really...but nice idea to ask for the peace treaty, we could send off another quick pm or email if needed. If they accept that then they can't redeclare war and attack the workers...so a peace treaty would definately be useful right now. I'm pretty sure that MS have IW, but we should see shortly if they accept the cease fire. Which they should, as we could always kill their warrior...could we leverage that into a peace treaty?

thier warrior is woody 2.
I already offered a cease fire to put us back at status quo.

As for negotiations....we know Kaz is cold to us. MS prolly don't like us either but we want to come off as nice. starting with, make peace or we will kill your warrior might not be the best approach.

I said I wasn't the best guy at diplomacy :p

Look at it this way though: if that warrior moves north we have to scramble the workers. We could offer them a quick letter telling them the north is a dead end, because we have a city over there, and there are workers on the border. We tell them that they cannot take the workers, but moving north would force us to deviate from a building plan, and we would not like that. Offer them the choice of either moving east (which is of better use to them from a scouting perspective), peace, or a dead scout (which doesn't have to be stated, but can be insinuated against).

We can offer them map infomation, because there is only a rule against trading screenshots and not map infomation (which is a stupid rule...), stating that north of the warrior is just jungle until they reach our borders, which are 3 tiles north of their warrior, then they reach our border which has gems nd a worker on them. This infomation is part of a peace offering, and tell them if they head straight east there are forest and jungle hills glore for them to explore.

The effectiveness of such a letter depends greatly on the tone; I probably couldn't pull it off, I'd certainly be percieved as aggressive and arrogant, but GW and other may have better luck with the tone.

Another way to make us seem more friendly is offer them a trade for IW; we know they have IW so such a trade isn't going to happen, but we do seem more willing to work with them. Something along the lines of masonry and polythism/writing, would definately be good. (As an aside, writing now costs us 105 beakers...)

If we wanted to really threaten to kill the warrior, all we have to do is move to the banana; if MS move north this turn (this is why the letter has to be written quickly) then we can kill it the turn after (t71) whichever way they move.

It's quite ironic really; the fact that MS take ages to play their turns gives us a chance to pull off such a move.

Really needs tha MS embassy set up.

Anyway we are back at peace.

I sent them this: laid out our cards. so they can mvoe where they want. if the move north, we might be going back to war.

OH BTW Kaz an MS have not met:

Cool :b: Good job on making that look informal and more like an individual opinion (which at the moment it is) rather than the "will of the team".

EDIT: oh cool, they don't have alpha...

NM, completely worthless now.

Spoiler :
Namaste HUSch.

The Ninjas salute the great people who call themselves Mad Scientists and apologize for our long delay in responding.

We are most pleased to have met your people and the Mighty Shogun has smiled upon our meeting out in the green jungle.

We wish to offer you three paths. You may follow either one with the blessing the SAN.

The Way of Daylight We would like to cement our friendship by the usage of a peace treaty, to show that we are sorry for the accidental declaration of war, so that our scouts may coexist peacefully without fear of one another.

The way of Twilight We can continue to co-exist with this ceasefire, helping each other as each others needs arise; to this end we have offered map infomation to your socut, to show him the way to new lands, and we repeat the infomation below:

To the north of your scout there is nought but jungle and our territory, containing bananas and gems repsectively, which would take you two turns to explore fully, at little gain beyond what we have bequethed in this letter.

To your east lies forest and jungle hills, to give you unseen before vistas and cool shadows to while away the hot day when not scouting, and hide amongst in case of ambush.

What do you think? Oh – and the Mighty Shogun would ask a small favor of you. He wonders much if you have passed any other barbarians when your brave exploring band of warriors passed that stretch of jungle immediately South West of where you first caught sight of our axemen? The Shogun would take it as a great personal favor if you would let us know. You have our thanks in advance.

sorry - been off the grid.
Will get on a formal letter & embassy setup right now.

Thanks for the start on the letter, Krill :salute:

Orange is for our next more, blue is for possible aggressive moves by MS.

Red are our moves after redeclaring war if MS have done the described moves. This would either stop them attacking the workers or stop them from exploring, depending on how ballsy we are and how damaged Barentz is after the barbs attack.

This the only safe way to defend gems other than moving the axe in CK up and slowing growth there. If we move to the banana, then MS could move NW, see Barentz then move back SE, and when we don't see Ari, we move off, and MS try again next turn, and take our workers.

Yes, the cost is there with exploration, we lose 1 turn scouting, and we don't uncover the southern FoW. The important thing is that we now have contact with 2 out of 4 teams, so we onnly need to find 2 otehr teams, instead of 3. The cost to slowing CK is irrevocable damage to our expansion, slowing scouting for 1 turn is the lesser of two evils.

Now personally, I would prefer to let them know that moving north costs us, and we would pass that cost onto them. Unfortunately, we can't do the peace trick now, so the easy way out is no longer available.

Works for me. I'm in agreement that the best move is to sacrifice a turn of exploration.

Only worry I have is that we lose the exp from the barb :(

I doubt MS will move SE, 2 barb warriors could take out their warrior, and they still have 1 move to make, so they either stay where they are (possible) or move NE, in which case we should have another 2 XP next turn with any decent luck.

Barbs could probably refuse to attack though, which would be annoying.

interesting. I'd say that cavs have 2 workboats out exploring, as well.

can we get OB with cavs? I'd like to know if we are all on the same landmass or not.

I'm thinking we are.

I'd bet a small amount that al of us are on one continent.

Not sure on the value of an OB, at least for a few turns. Would be nice to make them sit there then we kill the wb with the trireme.

1) We are the only ones with no foreign trade routes, so we are making less money than the other teams.
2) We can figure out if we are on teh same landmass as Cav, which I think we are.

Why do we want to kill their WB? Are we looking to have an active war so soon?

OB when we get sailing makes sense, but in this case, we need a trade route to the other civs? Ideally, we don't help Cavs or Kaz, so the best team would be MS, if that is feasible.

The wb was a small joke; we know we are not going to be allies, so why help them explore?

just to get some action over at Cav i sent a lofty note to Methos. as well as they have replied now. If we get it basically we got writing for noithing a hunting at this point in the game is mute.

You see since we don't know writing...it takes us so long to get this done.

Maybe hunting for writing would be in order? the beaker cost for us isn't even 100 now to everyoen else havign it and us havign all the prereqs.

Something to think about anyways.

Just an interesting little conundrum for people to speculate on.

Cavs need 3 happiness to sustain a size 7 second city; they don't have hunting so no camps (ele is out). They have religion for 1, which is size 5, so where do the other 2 come from? I think a mining resource makes sense, because the only other thing I can think of is 2 temples. I think 1 temple makes sense, to get a priest running for the shrine, because the temple is cheaper than Henge, and can give more gpp points.

Of course, if the city gets slaved next turn (possible) then that could indicate they only have 2 sources of happiness, but we'd have to wait and see on that issue.
