General Turn Discussion

Oops. I just logged on to check demographics and the diplo screen came up. Kaz is offering a cease fire. That was part of the deal so I suppose I should accept.

Done, although we may have missed our chance to demand writing in exchange for a peace treaty.

We already gave them the offer of the path of twilight; demanding something else now after the fact is just a way to spoil our reputation for a handful of beakers.

Except we wanted a peace treaty, not a cease fire I thought....technically, they could show up with 2 axes on a boat and DOW next turn.

If they had sailing...but point taken. We ought to send a letter asking about that peace treaty, or we hold it back and try to use it against them later.

I'm not sure what I suggested that Krill was responding to :)

I'm fine with going S->SE (pigs) or S->S or S->SW or even S->NW (which is essentially just E) and I'm fine with leaving the final decision to Memphus.

I think I'm leaning more towards seeing what is around the horses.

I'm confused about what agreement Kaz broke, though? They declared, they went through, they asked for peace. Isn't that what we said?

@Memphus: This should have gone in the Office of Exploration thread :)

Close....

We said: Peace.

They offered: Cease Fire.

Technicality yes. but still they didn't uphold their agreement. IMO the same idea would be if we offered to trade X for Y. but then instead gave them Z as a tech. Where Z is the same :science: value as X, but X was a militaristic (and much more strategic) tech.

This is from our email:

The Way of Twilight:
We agree that you'll declare war – and thus pass through our borders – with the eternal Shogun's personal guarantee of safety for your vessel. Then, as soon as your boat is past our borders, we will return to peace and continue negotiations of friendship.

From this, you can argue that a cease fire is closer to what we agreed to than a peace treaty - it says "we will return to peace", which suggests a return to the status we were at before, which was that a team could show up with a galley and 2 axes and then invade.

You can also argue that a peace treaty is implied, of course. The point is that it's certainly ambiguous - and I think it's hard to say that it's not, when we accepted cease fire - we could have said "no, we said peace treaty!!" - but we didn't.

wehoo!

He has 2 XP, so he needs an upgrade. I'd suggest woodsman, and use him to scout the south east when we have sufficent defensive coverage (which will be in 2 turns when he's healed anyway).

I agree!.......

just a minor thing but in Inner sanctum we have a grassland hill worked, we should move that to the plain hill while we're building the settler. That should give us one gold...
