Genetic AI Project

I didn't express myself clearly. I meant processing power demanding. I like the idea of neural nets so I thought I'd give it a try.

EDIT: sorry i thought the first answer is to my post, thanks

How demanding is the background mode? I run Civ4 and AdobeCS1 with up to 200MB files without problems. Is your mod using more resources than vanilla?
(3Ghz DualP4, 2GB, GF6600)

Well, I had it in background and it worked with winamp and firefox on, but it was a bit slow and took a little while when I wanted to select civ4 to see how it was going..My pc is about 3 ghz as well and 1gb ram and gforce of 512 mb i believe.

Well, it is a colder day today. I guess I'll throw this on my computer I'm not using right now. It's not fast, but it can run 24/7. It'll be like throwing a log on the fireplace :P
Heh - I too have a computer idle that I would use, had it a good enough graphics card (GeForce 2 - getting video memory errors).

I've seen reports of GeForce 4's running Civ 4 well, and I can pick one up for under £15, so I might pop out and get one of them.

I update them as soon as I see that they've had a download. Just go for a random one. Unfortunetly it only updates the view count every hour. I need a better system.

Civilization@HOME :D

EDIT: downloaded no.4. Started. The game chose germans as the traced AI. They got sheep on grassland hill, sheep on grassland, horses on grassland, corn and deer on grassland next to river and crab in the fat cross! The rest forested grassland hills or grassland/river! I wished I played this! Lucky AI.

EDIT2: 1000AD, still waiting for the first worker, germans last in score.

EDIT3: 1500AD, first worker in cologne, lost unprotected settler to barbarians. All AIs generally are slow in techs, most advanced units are egyptian macemen. Build quite a lot of galleys and defensive units. BTW standart fractal, random sealevel and climate, noble, normal speed. Nothing extreme.

EDIT4: 1850AD, three workers, running low tech percent. Riflemen appeared on the other continent. Elizabeth has 20+ cats in every city yet she doesn't attack. Louis is running high in science but he is alone in this effort so not much success.

It shows me 0 views at all downloads. Which one is still free?
Well I got the 3 and perhaps the 5..(nut you can use 5 if you want, it would be only after use 3...)

I get that sometimes! Of course, you can play the game if you want to - you might get slightly crazy opponents, but it should still work... except you won't ever be able to save.

Ooops. Have they built any units at all? Or just no workers?

LOL, RUNTIME ERROR? T.T
Something with runtimedll and c++ **** gave a ctd lol

Starting a new game, dunno what happened cuz it was in background T.T sorry..

Seems that game weasent recorded at all, there still only 3 games lol

PS: Can I rename AI? xD And hum, 1 doubt, I didnt undesrtand, do the AI actually learns wqith their mistakes or its just to see what AI is the best?? And if it only see what Ai is the best, so each thing that you gave us to downloads contain a completely different AI????

The same. Finished first game and crashed. Something like "tried to use runtime dll in a wrong way".

This early AI reminds me of Marvin Minsky:
"If you wire it randomly, it will still have preconceptions of how to play. But you just won't know what those preconceptions are."
(no offence)

+?: Each AI type seems to prefer a certain type of unit. I am watching 15 archers built in well-defended city now, which could have built pyramids instead for greater gain.
I'm fascinated nevertheless...

I wonder, what happens if the AI using my name loses. Am I kicked out of the game?
Nope. It just carries on going.

Re: crashes.

I've run 5 or 6 games with the current files and haven't seen any crashes yet. I'll dig around a bit. Do any of you have a crash dump? Without being able to reproduce and without a dump there isn't that much I can do.

The AI doesn't learn from it's mistakes. Each download contains 20 AIs. These are then rated, and when I get enough back I can run a filter program to take the best AIs out of the pack, and create new AIs based on those AIs. Those new AIs then get tested, and the process is repeated with every iteration making the best AI slightly better.

You can rename them if you like. It's a good way to keep track of them, and I'll be putting the best performing AI up on the first post. If it peforms really well then there is a chance that you might even get it back!

Shouldn't do. It might be that the calculation for the number of defenders needed for that particular AI is higher then the default - it's just trying a new stratagy, which, if it fails, probably won't be repeated again by a different AI.

Oh k lol, good system :)
The new game still running without any error..No idea of what happened

And I will put strange stupid names in the best AIs, dont worry xDD

I think I got a runtime error once while autosaving so I shut autosave off.

Hum well, i didnt run any kind of save lol, but hum..

It does a save automatically at the start of every game (default game behaviour). I'll disable that for the next version, as it's redundant anyway.
